I was at the Louvre in March 2022, and people could still rent the 3DS guide in the museum, but the gift shop did not stock the physical cart anymore. I asked and was told they don’t sell it anymore. I wasn’t 100% convinced of the answer, but they definitely didn’t have any in any language in stock while I was there.

I have pretty much all of the essential Gamecube games, including both Pikmin, Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, Smash Bros Melee, Paper Mario, among others and even the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess. I ended up getting it because I was so hyped for the game and my parents could not for the life of them find a Wii for like the first full year of its release, and like 6 months into that I used my allowance money to buy that version instead. That ended up working out too because once I had the Wii even though I liked the motion control gimmick more than most people did for that particular game it just felt way better to play with a Gamecube controller (probably because that's what it was designed for from its conception)

Probably my craziest one is getting Starwing Competition (Star Fox Super Weekend) for the SNES for about 2,600 HUF (around 8 USD today) because the seller thought it was just regular Starwing. It was about 10 years ago. For those who don't know, only a very small amount was ever made, and was used in official competitions held by Nintendo back in the day.
Most of my very valuable games are mostly valuable because I bought them when they were either relevant (like CIB N64 games), or just generally before the retro game boom (like a Mega Man V loose cartridge for the Game Boy, which I bought for 1,500 HUF or about 5 USD, look up how much it costs nowadays).

I'm not sure which is rarer for me in my personal collection but I do have copies of The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Oreshika Tainted Bloodines' English physical release.

The idea of that shop just throwing out old games hurts. You have to wonder how many rare gems ended up in the trash.

It was watching let’s plays on RUclips that branched out the games I played and lead me to build up a bigger game library. The games I miss the most that I once owned are the sonic advance trilogy

My rarest is probably fully boxed Metroid Zero Mission. Luckily I bought it before Dread was announced and the whole Metroid franchises value skyrocketed

I don’t own too many “rare” games, but some of the more uncommon or expensive ones I have (outside of the obvious like the DS Pokémon games) are the DS version of Chrono Trigger (that one I bought randomly at a used games store years ago and am glad to have held onto), Shin Megami Tensei IV, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again and both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the physical version of Torna: The Golden Country (and that last one I got a very good deal on due to only being $69 [nice], albeit without the case. Though I did buy a replacement case later on.)
I did use to own Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure on 3DS, but sadly I ended up losing it. ;-; And while European or Japanese copies are relatively cheap, for some reason the NA version goes for HUNDREDS of dollars.

My 5 most valueable games are Sega Rally Championship on GBA (loose), Pokemon Soul Silver (loose), Rhythm Heaven Fever (CIB), Kirby Planet Robobot (CIB) (yes this game suddenly shot up in price for some reason and now its like 80 dollars), and Pokemon LeafGreen (loose). All of these games I actually got from a friend (except Planet Robobot, I got that myself), most of which i got either when they weren't that expensive or neither of us knew they were expensive, aside from Soul Silver which they very generously offered to me for only $20 (I made sure to ask them "you sure you're gonna sell it to me for that cheap?")

I once found Final Fantasy Anthology and Origins at a charity store and unfortunately, because they apparently LOOKED special to this dear old lady, she took them to the back where apparently someone much younger was hanging out, confirmed their value, and so she returned and asked for 100DKK per game. Not a crazy amount of money but more than I had, so I had to quickly go to the supermarket with some of my empty plastic bottles and get the change I didn’t have.

A lot of my game collection value is just having chunks of my Gamecube collection still as the prices have gone insane. Looking in horror at how much Kirby Air Ride, Thousand-Year Door, Pikmin 2, etc have gone. Even Shadow the Hedgehog costs a lot!
The best deal I ever got though was sending ~$500 to my friend trying to help fund his wedding who sold me his N64, SNES, and a lot of the classics he had for that. He had Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star, Majora's Mask, and a bunch of other near-essentials for those systems in there.
Wanted to work on a Game Boy collection for my eventual Analogue Pocket later this year but even that's costly now for English versions. Tempted to buy the Kirby, Mario Advance, and Wario Land games in Japanese to spend a fraction of what US carts go for now.

My only games I have that are fairly expensive is probably the most common response of "DS era pokemon games" which sucks because I honestly feel kind of guilty for holding onto these games that I grew up with but havent played in a long while, that someone else could get more mileage from them.

I dont have much in the way of expensive games. But I do like collecting oddities.
I have a Pokemon XD Promo Poster that was in local game stores, still in its original display frame.
I have a Pokemon Trading Card Game light up neon sign that was used in stores.
I have JP imports of Pokemon Colosseum and XD.
    I found FF7 CIB on PS1 for £1 in a charity shop
I found JP imports of Aladdin and Street Fighter 2 SNES CIB in a local 2nd hand store.
I got a few random boxed Pong Consoles from the 70s found on FB and Car Boots.
    Some imported FMA PS2 games.
A CIB SAO Special Edition PSP game.
I salvaged some display pieces from Toys R Us before they shut down. I got cardboard bay headers for Xbox 360/Wii/Switch/Pokemon/Amiibo
I love my collection. I just dont have space for it all. 😅😅

I was wondering if you'd ever bring up the PDS you had sitting behind you! I have a few rare games, but I think my rarest is the North American release of Magic Knight Rayearth for Sega Saturn from Working Designs. Factory sealed. Bought it at a convention about 10 years ago for $100.

My rare or expensive games are ones I kept from childhood. Stuff like Earthbound, Haunting Grounds, Cubivore, Super Mario RPG. I somehow received a second copy of Pokemon Silver as a kid and never opened it. It's still sealed in the box 😅. These days I wouldn't recommend paying for what these retro games go for. I'd wait for the bubble to burst or emulate them.

I am hardcore feeling that gamecube collecting pain. I'm still kicking myself over not picking up Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness at a local game store a few years ago. Argument at the time was that I had just gotten Colosseum, and hadn't played it, so why would I want the sequel so soon?
Game goes for 200 dollars on a good day.

Probably the rarest games I have are arcade games believe it or not… I’ve got Radiant Silvergun (arcade ST-V card in a custom Radiant Silvergun dedicated cabinet), and Soukyugurentai (Terra Diver, also in the same arcade cab on a switcher in ST-V format).
Outside of that, I do also have every Falcom title released on Switch physically (Japan releases included), alongside physicals for a variety of shmups including every M2 ShotTriggers physical release.
I have a massive collection, but those are probably the more unique niche things.
