Edward Furlong (The Terminator, American History X) joins us this week to share his journey with addiction and the rock-bottom he hit that allowed him to get clean and re-discover the joys of a sober life. Edward shares fond memories with cast and crew while filming The Terminator franchise - all the while, acknowledging how he took it for granted in his youth.
We also talked about going from teenage heartthrob to parent of a teenager, breaking the chain of generational trauma, and what Edward still wants to prove to himself.

He went from T2 to Pet Semetary II, to American History X, and then Detroit Rock City in six years. That much success will destroy anyone if they aren't grounded and have amazing parents.
He was a fantastic actor in the 90s.
Don't forget Brainscan .
And then The Crow Wicked Prayer
And that one movie with Kathy Bates
And American Heart, with Jeff Bridges. A really beautiful and underrated movie.
In case some of you aren’t old enough to know, Edward after Terminator 2 was THE young actor in Hollywood. Expectations were sky high for him after T2 that is was almost impossible for anyone, especially a young actor in Hollywood, to achieve those expectations.
Macaulay Culkin.
@@beingsshepherd True but Culkin is a bit of an odd one as it was his decision to walk away from acting and then went through that debacle with his parents that culminated in his fall from grace. Good to see the guy is back on his feet now though with a family of his own.
@@beingsshepherd Made a real shitty movie then dropped off the map.
@@redactedandredactedaccesor7290And what was the name to that movie?
@@mischiefmakerstudios9900 party monster
Eddie Furlong you are a good actor and we all love you. Keep on doing what you like to do.
Anyone who can go thru that in the public eye & at that age & is 100% open & honest about it?….you can’t knock the guy
Most of the time we are in the right place at the right time so that we can learn from those situations but some lessons are very hard. Edward has done himself proud🙂
E Furlong was my hero as a child. He was such an amazing actor. I really hope he starts acting full time again.
I really don't think anyone wants to see that. lol.
Come on T2 he was cringe
@@fcukugimmeausername I want to see it. He's still an amazing talent.
He seems like such a good guy, I wish him much success and happiness in his sobriety
I feel so bad for Ed. He was exploited and literally groomed by an older woman. He never got to have a childhood
Makes you really appreciate someone like a Ron Howard, who grew up in the hollyweird business.
Its not too late...he can still come back!😮
Meh that depends on what kind of role he's after but he'd almost certainly have to get in better shape .
He'll be back....
I honestly didn't know he was still alive. People have moments when they hit rock bottom, but that doesn't mean they could never bring themselves back up. If that is what he wants then I hope he finds a way.
It's really unfortunate things didn't turn out another way I think we could have gotten several more Terminator movies with him and not had all this recent terminator garbage we've had recently.
The Terminator films have just got better and better with each one.
@@lucasoheyze4597 no
@@lucasoheyze4597 I know you're being sarcastic with that comment. At least I hope you are. After T2 each one has been a hot mess and I think the reason for that is that Cameron wasn't involved in any of them. I had such high hopes for Dark Fate when I heard that Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong were returning but boy was I disappointed. You can't have a Terminator film without Cameron's direction. Facts. Just look at what he did with Titanic. Possibly one of the greatest films ever made. A Terminator movie without Cameron is like a Star Wars movie without George Lucas. Sorry J.J. but the sequels SUCK!
i'm pretty sure they wanted him to come back for T3 but he was such a mess at the time they went with Nick Stahl.
As for Terminator movies, that one with the girl from Game of Thrones was the last one i bothered to watch and i regret it deeply.
They should left this franchise for books, comics and maybe games and tv shows, a niche in wich it can develop slowly without trying to repeat T2 AGAIN.
T3 was a pretty good film. Not on the same level as T2, but worth watching.
Im named after kyle reese i remember edward furlong gave me a cameo i told him i was named after kyle reese he thought that was awesome and hed love to do another terminator movie and that someday we could meet on set someday. This is kyle reese you are the resistance📻❤
Dang he looks 46 going on 65…😮
I’m glad he’s been able to get sober and rehabilitate.
Edward voice sounds exactly like Steve-O's. Imagine Edward Furlong and Steve-O having a conversation with each other.
It’s interesting and sad that both Edward and the guy who played T1000 both went off the rails. Both incredibly good in that film and huge missed opportunities
Edward Furlong é a alma de exterminador do Futuro , por isso os filmes sem ele não fizeram mesmo sucesso
ele vai voltar
It's a dangerous place mentally when you have no more fucks to give and nothing left to grind and strive for. It could probably be called Alexander the Great syndrome.
To hell with Hollywood Ed. It’s a sh*t show. I hope you find peace and happiness in your life wherever you go.
Yet another clip from this interview that makes no sense out of context 😄
So sad, he could have had a wonderful long career. Addiction is an Evil that is only vanquishED from within. He is probably total scunnered with HW. I don't blame him. Hope he makes a comeback. Pecker was good. 😎 He must still be pals with Big OaK surely.
wow this dude has really aged.
Dunno, if he lost weight and the bags under his eyes ...
Years of hard drugs and alcohol can do that
@@beingsshepherd He was literally a drug addict for years and only recently cleaned himself up.
@@Skowl3883 Does he look much older than 46 though?
@@beingsshepherd Im 43 and get told I look like Im in my mid 30s. I dont do anything in particularly other than live a normal life.
Drugs and the lifestyle it brings ages you quickly.
Edit: 44, sorry. Even i forget my age sometimes lol.
Such a wasted talent, he was so natural n charismatic actor, he's inner was so authentic that you could feel his character, emotion inner state just by standing still, they don't cast these true stars these days just spoiled rich brats
Where’s your hot tutor now Eddie???
Glad he's mending his ways. Shame he let himself go to such a degree. Well. We're all weak, fallible creatures.
Edward grew up All of the sudden I didn’t even recognize him…I’m guessing the fkn drugs aged him pretty bad
you age regardless of drugs man. if you don't know that, you'll find out
It is very difficult to listen to him tell a story.
He looks like a face swap.
I saw the thumbnail and legit thought he was Jello Biafra
Jello is in his 60's, isn't he. Furlong is late 40's. Sad, but he's sounding like he learned some lessons.
