Wao that's really amazing process... One thing which is really really impressive is how skillful these people are at handling such machine... The thin sheets of metal.... Amazing work ❤

Great video showing the amazing process of manufacturing stainless steel pipes. My heartiest best wishes to the hardworking and skilled pipe/tube manufacturers featured in the video. It's important to prioritize safety and follow proper PPE protocols while carrying out such tasks. Thanks for sharing this insightful video.
The age of those machines is old. I worked in a couple steel mills. While the machiniery is old in this video, the process is pretty much the same. Just a bit more automated and WAY safer. For example, that guy you seen putting card board into the recoiled steel strips... They don't do that any more (mostly). There is a pit that the strips will dip into to remove the slack from uneven thickness strips. I personally have experience doing the exact same thing he did. I know of a man that was at another steel mill that was doing the same thing. He had long sleeves on and gloves. He was feeing in a piece of cardboard and was pulled into the recoiler. It goes without saying that he didn't return to work the next day.
@@lm4278 I noticed that part. Could you expand on how exactly the cardboard works to defeat the slack issue? I was kinda boggled that he was doing that. I mean I get that the rollers are moving at a constant speed, I just never though there would be length differences in the strip as it came in.
@@phuturephunk No problem! the steel sheet isn't perfectly uniform over the entire width, and length. There are thickness differences. Could be .001 or less, but over a distance, that adds up to some of the strips sagging. So cardboard is used to take up that extra sag, so the coils stay relatively "even". That's what the pits are used for now. When a new machine is installed, they dig a 15-20, sometimes 30 foot pit right after the slitter. That's the part that cuts the coil into smaller coils. The will run the coil with a loop that falls into the pit so if there is a discrepancy in the thickness, the slack can go into the pit. It wasn't fun being the guy feeding cardboard into the coils. One time, we were working with some seriously high carbon steel. It almost wouldn't go through the slitter to cut it down. We go it to go through after a couple hours of fighting it. As we got it into the recoiler and made a couple pretty sketchy turns on it, one of the coils snapped right at the recoiler and came down with such force that it took a chunk of cement out about 24 inches long, and about 1 inch deep. I just happened to be the guy standing next to it. About 3 feet away. Needed new underwear after that.
@@lm4278 a pit is nice and easy way to get rid of loose windings. But if you can't you need to fix this by having your profile nailed to perfection at rolling stage. What I'm wondering is why they don't use C hooks for lifting. The way they do it can't be good for the edge quality which is very important for your buttwelds.
please buy them safty shoes and glasses , feets require same protection as hands! Invest in your work force while you are blessed with reward of there hard work!
This is pretty much the same job my father’s company did in the Chicago area. They pretty much re-rolled, slit, resized, and stamped steel that came from overseas and then shipped it back out around the United States. More or less the exact same equipment I saw them have back in the 1980s (and I’m sure most of it was sourced in the 1960s-1970s, in that same off green color). Although there was less manual work, and more safety gear.
The factory owners hold the profit and ignore the safety of the workers. A constant across South Asia. It is amazing that in this century these work practices are completely acceptable. I wonder if this factory is in India or Pakistan....

@@bassphreak71 so you don't get sparks and arc-eye from tack welding? Have you seen the rates of blindness in SE Asia countries? You're going to feel pretty stupid when you turn up at the hospital and your $800 welding helmet is still in the cupboard.
@@ianday38 do you weld? Usually if you were going to tac it you would line it up and look away for like a quick one here and there but this guy in the video is looking right at it from like 6 inches away lol pretty bad. That's the way all of them coils should be wrapped I am a truck driver I drive a flatbed and they want us to put tarps on that stuff there ain't no sense of putting a tarp on something at it should have been covered in the first place a tarp that's all them things do them coils is rip our tires are tarps and then if they're not covered right they're going to get wet moisture out of anyway if they can't secure their own coils and have them wrapped the way they're supposed to because I won't call him no more they're dangerous you got to change take your tarp loosen it up so you can check tough change on the coil it's all crap it's all if they can't wrap it the way it's supposed to be wrapped they need to haul let them all in their self because I won't let the people at make them coils if they can't wrap it and make it where it stays dry let him haul at their self
obviously exhaust pipe, good stainless pipe like they showed int he beginning for like nook plants so forth is extruded, same as titanium.. but for exhaust its acceptable
Those are some great looking safety sandles
dont forget the welders squint
This whole video is like an I Spy book for safety audits lol

Now that is not a cottage industry, that is full scale industrial production of pipe.

India and Pakistan are one of the best Metal Workers in the world ❤. From Manila Philippines.
Haha, under these conditions yes. Go and search for one of these pipe factories in the first world countries.
I've used thousands of tons of tube over the years, never knew how it was made.

I wonder what years this equipment is from, it feels like it's from the last century.
But it should be noted that it does its job perfectly

They are producing 10x cheaper then here in US.

What is happening at 7:57? Forge welding?
I love the Safety Boots.
Great video thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills and how much time goes into making these products ❤

Deburring process is required after pipe cutting at both ends.
Nice
Where is this factory????
Does it look like stainless?
anyone know the length of 1 steel coil?

Did they pressure test it? Or does the customer just hope for the best.
So.... where does the contaminated cooling water go?
All wearing safety-flipflops ; )

Highly unsafe and dangerous working. Which country is this. This mill requires to be closed immediately.

Wow
A company with enough money to buy large quantities of stainless steel stock but not enough to buy these guys a £30 welding mask.
All he's doing is tack welding. Myself I have a 800 dollar 3M Speedglas helmet and rarely do I use it for tack welding.

give that welder a few years and he will be a blind man

Why is it there in india they dont worry about their safety? Like wearing proper equipment to protect their eyes when welding stuff? Thats basic 101
And they do it all with sandals on.

Jammed all the edges of the roll. The pieces of wood should be placed under the steel cable.
