Just tried the sardine challenge this past week. I'm diabetic and I've been a fairly strict carnivore for about 4 months and I think I'm fat adapted. Anyway, my blood pressure was still kind of high and some days, I'm forced to use small shots of insulin to get my sugars down. bla bla bla anyway, I started on a Thursday. That night and for the next 3 nights, every 2 and a half hours I was up to urinate. You could almost set your clock by the frequency. My glucose flat lined except for a spike it the mornings. ( some syndrome bla bla bla ). The thing that jazzes me up is when I checked my blood pressure, I was in normal rage.. Let me say that again, after having high blood pressure for 10+ years, I WAS IN NORMAL RANGE!!!!!!!

I live in France, 🇨🇵 so can't buy the magazine. However, sardines are a huge thing here, people LOVE them. My local store has about 50 different varieties of sardines, all skin-on bone-in. White wine and lemon? Tapenade style? Spanish chorizo? Shallots and Champagne vinegar? Hot and spicy tomato? Puttanesca? I even took a picture to prove it! Maybe I should send it to Dr Boz! 💜

@@Rikki-lh2mw Hiya! La Cheshire CAT! And I really don't like frog's legs, but my children do!
I take the sardines, open the tin, tip them out into a bowl with the oil and the juices in the can. Then I take a fork, and mush them up. I might add some freshly grated garlic, some parmesan cheese, some lemon juice, some siracha sauce or Dijon mustard and freshly ground white or black pepper. Sometimes I eat them just like that, in front of the television because I'm not paying attention to what I'm sticking in my gob. (Bad girl habit!) And sometimes I put the sardines in a leaf of baby gem lettuce, like a wrap. It's not a "proper fast" but I do what I need to do to get there! It's working, and that is what is important to me!

Yesterday I ate only one can early in the day and didn’t give food another thought. (Highly unusual!) So, I ate the last can this morning and feel great. Blood sugar is low and ketones are high. Just what I need for serious autoimmune issues to heal. I feel so good, I may just wait until another day for the casserole.

I had nothing but water for 7 days.
      I lost nothing ! ! !
And ... I have heard that fasting actually raises blood sugar.
It is better to eat low calorie rather than eat nothing ... supposedly, you need to give your body something to burn, otherwise, the body thinks that it is starving and holds onto everything.
And ... if you do lose weight from fasting ... as soon as you eat normally, the scale goes up again ... because you are really not losing weight, you are only losing water.

Congratulations, Dr. Boz! I've watched many of your videos, including several 72-hour sardine challenge videos. I haven't attempted the challenge yet, but have incorporated them into my ketovore (90-95% carnivore) diet. If I feel that I need a little more food after my dinner, I'll pop open a can of sardines. I have both the "Season" brand and "Wild Planet" smoked sardines, but I like the Season brand better (and just picked up more at Costco today).

Nevermind the magazine, I'm gonna stock up on sardines before the 8th when they suddenly sell out lol. I have yet to do the sardine challenge, but its next. About 5 weeks ago I first saw your channel and started towards fat adapting my body. I have knocked off 20lbs since then. Blood sugars average 75 fasted to low 90's at highest. I am looking to ramp it up. Previous to this I had lost 100 already with std dieting. Now Im tackling the last stubborn belly bits and want to undo decades of insulant resistance damage 😊

I fasted 72 hours, then did 3 days sardines. and still found it hard to get into ketosis. Morning glucose was 127-144 and after 1 week could only get ketones up to .2. I think I gained water weight and only lost a pound. Still doing Keto and low carb, but It has taken me over 2 weeks to get into ketosis near .4 or .5. Im 62 with some residual fatty liver, Fatty Pancreatic Atrophy and Hematochromatosis. Other than that, No meds for anything . Im losing weight slowly even if the ketones do not record. I aim for 50-60% protien, low carb 30 total or 20 or less net carbs. and plus or minus fat. Calories range from 1000- 1800 a day. some rare days are under 1000. Im just going to stick with it, slower and steady an hope the metabolic healing kicks in.

Sardine everyday recipe. Boil 4 eggs with a 125 gram can of sardines in fresh water for 7 minutes. While eggs and can are boiling, cube 100 grams of butter in a bowl. After 7 minute boil, open can and add sardines with juice to butter cubes and mash to rough paste. Then add eggs, cutting into small pieces and mix with sardines. Add 2 teaspoons of psyllium husks to thicken and salt to taste. If still hungry add more butter.

QUESTION : salmon vs sardines for fasting? [ my mom does not like intense fishy smell of sardines]..YOUR THOUGHTS?
doing some research i found this on salmon vs sardines for fasting:
Here's a quick comparison of how eating salmon versus sardines periodically during a fast may impact autophagy and visceral fat loss:
Protein content: A 3oz (85g) serving of salmon contains around 17-20g protein. A 3.75oz (106g) can of sardines has 22-25g. So sardines provide slightly more protein.
Calorie content: Salmon contains around 130-150 calories per 3oz. Sardines have between 190-210 calories per 3.75oz can. So sardines are a bit higher in calories.
Effect on autophagy: The protein in both is likely enough to partially suppress autophagy, but not completely stop it. Sardines may have a slightly greater effect due to more protein.
Visceral fat loss: Higher protein intake can mildly spike insulin and slow visceral fat burning. Again, sardines may be slightly more inhibitory.
Conclusion: Both salmon and sardines eaten periodically during a fast will reduce but likely not eliminate autophagy and visceral fat loss benefits. Sardines may have a slightly greater negative impact due to more calories and protein.
For best results, limit salmon or sardine intake to 1-2 times per week maximum during fasting periods. Maximize duration of complete fasts between meals.
So in summary, both can work for fasting, but sardines may slow benefits slightly more. Moderation of intake and meal spacing is key.

According to Dr. Boz in another video - it was one of her live vids -, she didn’t notice a difference across brands so much. She did notice a difference between skin-on vs skinless. While the skin-on sardines were fine, the skinless gave her digestive issues. Just guessing but the process involving removing the skin must be a chemical process. If so, whatever residue remaining is probably causing the issues. So go with skin-on if possible.

I can eat sardines but to say I like them would be a stretch. I pour sardines from can to bowl, pour pickle juice to cover and use generous amount of Louisiana brand garlic lovers hot sauce, and mix. I don't normally like spicy food but this masks the fishy flavor. I jumped into sardine challenge too quickly last time and had serious pain in right shoulder. Apparently my gall bladder wasn't able to metabolize the fat. Just adding a can a day and will increase at a much slower pace.

Quite frankly I lost only two pounds. That being said, I was OMAD prior to this, so no water loss. On subsequent (3) 3-4 day fasts I lost about 3lbs each time. Huge weight loss if you're coming from a high-carb diet, but if already ^2 ketones for most of the day, really expect 2-3 lbs. I found the basic 3-4 day water fast easy, and painless w/ abundant energy and I'm barely 8 weeks post-op for a total hip replacement. Fasting rocks, sardines, not so much, but perhaps it helped as a preliminary to my 3, then 4-day fasts. Note: Since watching Dr Boz I"ve lost a consistent 2.6lbs/week and remember, I was on keto, so no water loss.
