    This is why as an “upper intermediate” rider, I only do really tiny jumps. 1 out 5 of my jumps I’m accidentally in the wrong body position, or compressed my suspension too soon or too late, or slip off the pedals, etc.. on a small jump those mistakes are scary but manageable, on a bigger jumps it can end you for the season. Kudos to the dudes that nail it 5/5 times, but as a 4/5 times dude… forget it. Not worth it

    On this footage it´s obvious that you´re tending to land after a jump nose-heavy. I think this happens because of a slightly wrong body movement in front of the jump. Most of the time you got away with it, but on the last jump there was a lack of speed, too, so you cased it. But falling down is part of the game, and I´m glad to hear that nothing´s broken mate. :)

    I'm an old school MTB Rider, means, I drive Mountain bikes since 1990, when I was 10 years old!
    1 Differenz to today : we had a lot of crashes, too, but there were no mobile phones, to call for an ambulance or any kind of help. Wich meant, we went often to the ER, by bikes by ourselves. Injured and in bad shape.
    2. 50 % of our rides were done alone, and without fancy helmets. So you had to have a natural sense, how much risk you wanted to put in one jump.
    So, until today, for me a gap is one of the most risky things, you can jump over. Looks simple and easy, if you watch someone else doing it right. But only a little unbalanced lift of, and it's the beginning of an ugly ending 🤣😂🤣😂‼️

    • @JS-cg6tr

      @@JS-cg6tr As someone who rear brake taps frequently, you are correct. Rear brake tap in mid-air makes you slightly nose-heavy, and the front brake makes you really nose heavy, both at once sends you nose down very aggressively. It's basic physics, the energy from the forward rotation of the wheel is transferred to your overall flight trajectory when you brake with either wheel... squeezing your back break when you're nose heavy is a great way to paralyze yourself, @petedog9581 has no idea what he's talking about

      @@petedog9581 Dude, that is straight up dangerous advice. Using the front brake in the air is a big no-no. Losing the gyro force will very easily throw you off, not to mention the squirrely landing when the front wheel has to get back up to speed. There is also zero chance that any change in drag will outweigh the transfer of angular momentum from the rear wheel to the frame (and you) and bring the rear down. Anyway, with bicycles and the relatively light (compared to frame and rider) wheels and tires, using the rear brake does very little, you may be screwed if you screw up the takeoff.

    Beginner type of skills ,combined with a big squishy bike, results in riders convincing themselves that they know how to ride, when by any serious measure, they do not.
    Learn to hop, well. That will build the skill, muscle and reflexes to be able to make a fast correction to get the front end back up where it should be while in the air, when you find yourself in an endo position. And, remember, with a hardtail, bucking is far less common.
    In skating, you aren’t a skater unless you can ollie and in MTB and BMX, you aren’t a real rider unless you can hop. It’s the basis of nearly everything, beyond beginner-level riding.

    Serious question, when someone asks are you alright? And you reply no, what’s the definition of alright. Like does no mean take me to the hospital? Or I broke something? Or is it like “no I just fell off my bike of course I’m not “alright”?

    • @betterthannotgoodmtb
      @betterthannotgoodmtb 22 дня назад

      To me, when asked if I'm "alright" it's a middle ground question that could go either way. In my case, a no means I legit broke something. Most of the time I just respond with, "Probably not." Which is translated as, "I'm an idiot and botched that one."

    Don't lean forward when you're in the air.

    I really think you need to spend some time working on bike control. It seems you end up nose heavy off all the jumps where you really need to stay level in the air to be comfy. I would try riding a smaller bike like a dirt jumper or BMX and that really helped me learn. Manuals, bunny hops, and leaning to bunny hop/pull off of tight steep lips helped me feel super comfy in the air. When you stay level in the air, even if you case or get sideways, it is almost always better than coming in nose heavy. I had a t-8 compression fracture in my spine from staying too back heavy off the lip which caused me to go nose heavy off the jump. I realized only after a long break from riding that I always jumped like this. I would preload the rear suspension too hard and always get kicked foward a little even if I was clearing the jumps fine and always landing fine too. But once I was traumatized by the spinal injury I realized just how much I was doing this and now I feel super comfy on the bike. Hitting a jump should FEEL no different from a massive assisted bunny hop. I think that ideally you should not be rotating forward as you travel through the air. One way I got rid of that habit was just by practicing really strict and level bunny hops on flat ground. Idk I said a whole lot of gibberish and none of this prolly makes much sense but I know just how terrifying a bad crash like that can be as I had one myself and I do not want that to happen to anyone else if I can prevent it😂

      Nah I totally got you. The bike is an XL and I'm only 174cm. I'm growing a lot though so I should fit it correctly soon. Jumping form also played a huge part in that crash, got that fixed on a smaller bike as you were saying.

    Plan on doing this again because you're reinforcing it by watching it thinking it and being afraid over and over again by cementing the memory in your mind of what you did wrong . ...Not to mention infecting other people with your fear. Erase your video and start posting only your best moments and the best things you've done and that's who you will become again. (Real simple, live in your negative past like a scared soul, or constantly Embrace what you do that is great and your best .)
