such a great video and review. i purchased this lens 4 days ago after thinking about the ef 85 1.8, rf 85 1.2. As I am not a professional shooter, and i only take photos of my children running around, a 85mm focal length would be awesome for candid photos. Man i was so surprised, the build quality, wow the metal lens, feels like a zeiss, the af is accurate, the lens is sharp, didn't need a ef to rf adapter. the bokeh is very pleasing besides photographers who pixel peep, i think 99% of people would focus on the subject or story vs. the bokeh difference, so saved me $3000 or $4000 CAD, loving it! can't wait till they release more rf lens! keep up the great work!
Love the look and feel, just from judging on videos on YT. But the second hand market is also very close; I can get 85 1.4 USM II for like 800 euro (used). But it needs the EF adaptor for RF ofcource. Just stepped off my 24-105 EF 4.0 to a RF version, after discovering the video noise of the AF focus on RF + RF is basically gone with the steppingmotor. Either way, this viltrox is amazingly cool for that (new) price point!
That's the major problem with these lenses. The AF is very inconsistent. You can have stellar performance up until some shots that you'll miss because of that. I stuck with the good ol' ef 85 1.8 because of that.
You don’t need ibis to own this lens 😉. It still is a stellar lens and performs great. And if you ever upgrade your camera, you’ll even more profit from it.
I'm on 1.6 on the R5 and the Lens still works and focuses 🤓. Can't speak for any other 3rd party Lenses though. It might come down how they reengineered the RF Mount 🤷♂️
@Vlay76 I have Samyang RF 85mm F1.4 on Canon R6 mk II, and it works. You need Samyang firmware version 3. The only problem is, when you turn on the camera, for 2 seconds , it shows that the lens is in manual focus. after 2 seconds the focus points appear. And the AF is a little better than the Viltrox. Now I have both! and is difficult to chose between the 2. Both have their pros...

Thanks for your kind words! I'm also quite keen when they'll come out with a new RF Lens 🤩. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you more about that then 😉.

How could I also update to f/1.6?
How/where could I get the Firmware
🙏🙏🙏
The ticking alarm is so freaking annoying. Dear lord
I've done the lens update and my canon is up to date but it doesn't show the same as your in the menu...
I own an R-50. How do you suppose this lens will perform on the same?
It'll perform pretty much the same way 😉
On canon R10 Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 AF Canon RF-Mount distance 1 to 5 meters lots of AF wobble, 5 - 50 meter no wobble

Wow, really great review. You deserve 1000x more views.
Haha thanks Chris! I'm working towards that 😁
ใส่canon r10ได้มั้ยคะ
This video makes me want that 85 1.4 IS USM even more. :-)
I am not sure if I should get this lens for Canon RP that doesn't have IBIS.

Can you still use this lens on RF mount?Canon issued a warning to Viltrox! 🤔
I know they did that but I assume it probably is more of a patent thing. The lens still works perfectly fine ☺️.
@@AttiBear You mean they told not to produce lenses any more?Canon R6 woun't work with Samyang lenses after firware update. 🤔

Does it even work anymore. New firmware might have done this in.
Still works flawlessly for me and I'm on 1.8.1 on the EOS R5
@@AttiBear Can you tell me the firmware download link for canon rf?
Viltrox seems to be a winner.
I wonder how it works on a Canon eos RP? I mean the viltrox
Should be the same since it also works in the EOS R I have here 😉
