Great video! I love your resourcefulness ! My '99 Accent has 165,000 miles on it but is still O.K. Dumb design ! I'll probably remove the steering knuckles and have my machine shop replace the bearings and rotors when the time comes. ( probably when the clutch goes I'll do the clutch, ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings , wheel bearings , and rotors and pads all at once.

I had bad control arm bushings, that's what started this whole project...then I noticed one rotor that was wearing unevenly.. funny but you can buy new control arms complete with ball joint for about the same price of just the bushings separately. While I was at it I replaced the struts, tie rods, brakes, caliper rebuilds (I had a rusty caliper piston on the drivers side) I noticed that a lower radiator bracket was rusted and failing (radiator was just hanging by the hoses). No stone unturned... now it drives like day 1!
I call this car my go-cart!
Thanks _ Good luck to you!
Parts are cheap for these - , I just hate paying labor if I can do it myself?

The inner bearing track can be removed much more easily from the rotor shaft and without an angle grinder. just a cold chisel, The inner track comes off unscathed and the hub isn't scored at all.
I just did my front wheel bearing on a 2001 Accent .I knew the only previous owner and as the car, despite its age, had only done 55.000 miles, so the bearing had been in place for 15 years! Everything was pretty much very badly seized, but when I had the hub off I followed my usual method of removing and inner track from the hub(see from 6- 10 minutes in to this clip.)
All I did was to use a sharp cold chisel.
You place the cold chisel where the inner edge of the bearing track butts against the shoulder on the rotor shaft. (At 8:48 Mad Matt's forefinger is about an 1/8 inch above where you want to place your chisel. There is no gap, as the track is right up against the rotor shoulder, but if you place it exactly where you can see where it butts, the chisel will open it up as to hammer the chisel. Don't go all the way down until to hit the shaft of the rotor, the chisel will move it about 1/4 inch (6mm) before the chisel toucher the rotor shaft. Make sure that you put the chisel in at different points so that the track moves evenly along the shaft, ie don't hit it too much one one side or it might bind.
After a few hits, it is 6mmor so, use a bit of scrap, or a thin spanner and place it in the gap you've created, and again, use the edge of the chisel to widen it more. Repeat until it's move dabout 1"(25MM) along the shaft and then it will usually be easy enough to keep it moving off with the chisel. It took me about 3 minutes. Easier than it sounds.

Thanks for the video :) Lets me get an idea of what I'm up against hahaha. I agree, it's a completely idiotic design! I'm planning on doing this to a 98 Hyundai excel(same as Accent) and I'm going to try using one of the old drive shafts Ive had to replace as the tool to press on the new bearings. I'm thinking the outer joint of the drive shaft already has a large thread and nut, plus it has a step that's going to sit flush with the inner bearing to help press it onto the hub. Worth a shot i think. I'll get back to here and leave a comment if it works.

I don't think the splines and threads of the axle (drive shaft) will be long enough to get the outer nut started.
The amount of movement, as you tighten everything, is more than an inch +
I hope you succeed and would love to hear how your plan of attack worked!

I did this job, but i'm still getting wheel bearing noise. I suspect this is because of pressure being applied from the outer bearing onto the outer outer race. Would it be smart to first install the outer bearing onto the hub with a press?

Absolute worst design I’ve seen. You shouldn’t have to rebuild the hubs just to replace a rotor.

I just did the same thing. Thank for sharing but now i have another issue with this operation. When the car reach 110km (70mph), the steering wheel is shaking... i did not have this vibration before :(
Can you help me ? Can a looseness tighten cause this ? What torque did you use for hub nut ?

The hub nut should be torqued to 210-230Nm

I replaced the lower control arm's... smooth as silk now. also wheel vibration can be caused by low air pressure in the wheels' or a tire that need's replaced? Also could be bad tie rod ends?

Yes sir can't find anything on this year and model had the front wheel lock up and making a clunking noise like a bad axile and jacked it up and tire wouldn't spin. Took the brakes completely off and it still wouldn't turn and tried RUclips the video couldn't find nothing didn't have any sign of a bad wheel bearing wheel was tight shook it up and down side to side said the hell with it took the axile nut off and it spun freely so short story long Hyundai sucks and watching this video I'd rather junk it then go thru all this
