  • In this video I will be making a durable waxed canvas pouch for my stainless steel Nalgene bottle. Designed to keep the soot off the rest of my kit after I use it in the fire, it would also be perfect for your cook kit, billy can, nesting canteen or anything else that needs separate storage in your pack. Thanks for watching!

I know this is an old video, but thank you for giving me the push I needed all these years to go out and buy a sewing machine (bought today for $15 USD) and start making my own sacks. And fixing a pullover hoodie. Can't wait to make the wool blanket hoodie! Thanks again, Sir. 🍺

Simon I lost my brother to cvd and my father too. I stopped alcohol and changed my diet/lifestyle and sorted out many ailments that I had. I hope you are taking care of yourself as the operation is not a complete cure, it can happen again if you dont watch what you put in your gob.

Great work. Also, as an NHS employee myself, we appreciate the positive feedback. We don't do our job for rewards or anything. But knowing someone has received great care, and had their life improved, is reward enough. Keep up the good work and enjoy the outdoors. I am enjoying catching up on your videos. Cheers.

Thank you - I love the NHS - it’s a strange thing, I don’t think I’d given it a second thought before I was plunged into a situation where I needed it! We are massively fortunate to have such a service in the UK! I thank you sir and I hope the NHS lives on to fix and help others for many years to come (as long as Donald Trump keeps his mitts of it that is! 😂)

Watching this for the second time. I have had AF since about 1982. If you get a reoccurrence, go directly to a big hospital's 'A& E / Casualty. Initially, I had my AF reset via the electric paddles (jump start) and several years later I went into AF again.
Doing the right thing, I attended my GP Doctor rather than clutter up the hospital. By the time I got to see the specialist, he told me it was too late to reverse it.
You can lead a pretty normal life with AF, I managed to work as a Prison Officer in Maximum Security and Extreme High Risk (two levels above Maximum Security) for nearly 20 years without too many problems (the Department were on a need to know basis, they didn't need to know, so I kept schtum about it).
One thing I learnt when inspecting the sewing shops in gaols was to quickly put a neat crease in something you are about to sew, was to hold it stretched tautly and then 'break' it over the edge of the work table. Quick and very effective.
Keep up the good work mate!

Another suggestion : I have several pouches, for instance for my toilet items (toothbrush etc.), simply sewn from the sleeves of old shirts. Of course this is only possible when the pouch doesn't need to be as strong as the one you made in this video, but there are lots of uses . Saves work and makes good use of things you'd otherwise throw away.

You could make a different one and sew a couple of loops on it and attach D rings. Then you can make or purchase a strap or adjustable strap and make a cross-body water bottle carrier. Nice video. I have made these pouches but never thought of the two-tone constrast and will make one.

Welcome to the zipper club. For those that don't know, when they open up your chest to get at the heart, there is a scar left behind. They used to use stitches or staples that left the scar looking like a zipper.
I had a triple bypass about 4 years ago now.

Brillant Simon ! Your pouches are very well made and inspiring.
I like to sew waterproof and dirt proof pouches. I usually use regular cotton scraps from other projects an spread odicoat resin on it. just iron it with baking paper on top, and there you go ! Any cotton becomes waterproof. Ready to be sewn.
By the way : I'm so glad you have recovered.

Pants legs also makes great bags too , if what your carrying dont have to be water resistant. Basically all my cooking ingredients are in air and water tight containers, so anything will work that just keeps it together. Your idea on cooking items is great choice on material. Pathfinder has got a 48 oz coffee press , ive got ordered their 64 oz bottle will fit inside it , like their 32 oz bottle will fit in their 25 oz cup . They also have a new cup thall fit over the grayl bottle .

Hi Simon, greetings from sunny Malaysia. Have been a long time subscriber to your channel but only just found this one you posted back in the good old pre-pandemic days of 2017. Absolutely brilliant my friend . In fact I was looking for the camp kitchen utensil roll one you did when I found this one ! I recently bought my first sewing machine as a result of that camp kitchen roll video with the intention of making one. Having now learned how to use my sewing machine and patched up the knees on a lot of my jeans, I now have the confidence to venture forth and start on the kitchen utensil roll and the round draw bags having bought the materials to do these. Looks like I have you to thank for keeping me busy in the coming few weeks making pouches and bags for my outdoor gear and some add on side pouches for my Fjallraven Singi Stubben as no-one seems to have them in stock. Stay safe and keep the videos coming :-)

Happy you are well. I am 51 as of Jan. 21, and have spent the last twelve years fighting, at first it was my lungs, and now fighting to keep my legs. I love bushcraft, and even as I fight with my health and am now disabled as per the Canadian government, I am still getting out there as best I can. I attend university full-time, and many of my courses take me outside into the Canadian wilderness. Keep up the channel and best of luck with your health. Life has gotten better, despite? In spite of my health? Our health care here in Canada gets knocked as well, but I have spent barely a penny!!! Cheers fella!!!

Buschpirat - Thanks Azze! Yep, all good with the operation and I’m recovering well - I’m itching to get out in the woods!!! Glad you like the pouches - they are quite simple to make - the base is the only tricky bit - you need to make sure the width of the side piece (the rectangle) is the same as the circumference of the base where it is stitched - if that makes sense?! The rest is a breeze! Good luck with it my friend! Atb, Simon.

Great bit of handiwork, adaptable as you say, to all sorts of uses. Great to see you looking so well after the repair work - nice to know we'll all be enjoying your videos for some time to come! Have a great 2018 & I look forward to seeing the occasional extract from it!

Cheers Peter! Yes, amazing how quick the recovery period was!! I’ve made a whole load of these pouches now - the problem is knowing where to stop! I’ve even made a bag to contain bags!! Atb, Simon.

Nice job - I shall have to give it a go provided ER Indoors lets me near her sewing machine. Good to hear all went well with the op. Dave

Cheers Dave! Yes, very lucky to have the NHS! I’m sure you could talk her around, otherwise a stealthy night-time sewing mission? Atb, Simon.

Praise God you’re procedure went well! Fantastic diy tutorial! Once I’m done with school I will be learning these types of crafts, especially with how expensive the punches are to buy from another maker. Loved that 2-tone!! Cheers brother!

+AG Survival - Thank you! On the mend. It’s a nice little project to do, for me, it’s the enjoyment of making my own gear - they become more important to me and I get more satisfaction out of using them. The cost does help too!! 😉 Atb, Simon.

Love the N.H.S. without it myself, my wife and by extraction my brilliant son would not be here. Lets hope it survives. Anyhow, love your vids Simon, thanks.

I started putting the drawstring in as a sew the hem. The foot keeps it in place. If you want to see me go ballistic, it's trying to get paracord around with a piece of wire.
Great vid! I got lazy and just used the legs off a pair of trousers... yours sure look nicer.
