      @@proz71ful19 I just recently bought some Klipsch RP-280F's, RP-450C, and TX-NR646 receiver from this old guy on letgo for 100 bucks. yes.... 100 bucks lol. (his wife passed away last month so he was just selling stuff he didn't want anymore) I didn't really care much about all the extra stuff until I got these speakers because I never expected to get THIS BIG an upgrade so fast. I just really want to make sure that nothing gets damaged or too worn. The receiver is very small compared to the receiver I had before which was an old Integra DTR 7.4.... so I'm currently looking to do separates or atleast buy a receiver with more pre-outs so I can run my LCR on a separate amp soon. but for now, im getting my power situation in check then ill be comfortable buying more stuff. I live in an apartment, so I know for sure there are inconsistencies in the power coming to my apartment.

    I was always eyeing separates but couldn't afford it to start. I recommend buying a avr that has preouts for the main 5/7 channels to start usually around 900 bucks. Then add an amp later when you can. That's what I did now I'm shopping for a processor as I already have the amp

    Hi Shane! I have been using a Bryston SP3 processor for 7.1, I just bought the Marantz 8805 so should i get pre outs from the Bryston to the Marantz or just use the Marantz. I can't tell the difference between the two processors, what would you do? Thanks!

    My Marantz SR5012 just had the front right channel quit. Luckily for me it has 7.2 preouts. I just ordered a 2 channel Crown amplifier and I'm going to offload the front channels to the Crown. What this scenario has done is raise my eyes towards the world of separates as I had begun prospecting a new AV receiver before buying the Crown amp. I think I'm just going to move into the separates game.

    You are cute and young looking. Great video and great explanations. Perhaps you could make a video, on what to look for in used equipment. I see some killer msrp expensive equipment, going for very low prices as they do not have the latest bells and whistles. Like an original $3,000 amplifier for $300. Same for processors.

    Shane, just subscribed to your channel. Awesome content and explanations. Also appreciate some of the honesty (particularly on the Outlaw 7720 vs 5000 video).
    One thing I have a hard time swallowing (and understanding) when considering (the latest) processors like Marantz AV7705 is that there is no upgrade HW path and the price to entry is very high. If there is a HW upgrade path, how long does it take to get that and is the cost of the upgrade module reasonable (comparing total cost of ownership across 10 years, did dropping $6000 on a HW upgradable pre/pro + upgraded modules over the years still turn out to be more expensive than buying a new, inexpensive receiver every 2-3 years?).
    I think I have no problem putting in some additional money if I was strictly going to be setting up a 2 speaker music setup but with home theater use where we get new audio and video formats to take advantage of all the time it seems like...I am very hesitant to spend more when I know it won't satisfy me for 8-10+ years.
    Shane, In your opinion and assuming you wouldn't use internal amps in a receiver, is it really worth it/much of a difference between say a Marantz AV7705 vs Marantz SR6013/6014. It almost seems like you need to go big or go home when considering a pre/pro (e.g. NAD M17) since there appears to be quite a bit of great capable receivers (again assuming you won't be using their internal amps).
    EDIT: I see you sorta answered my concerns: "Pre/pro would have better internals" but I am curious from your opinion, how big of a difference in both sound (and video) is it? Seriously trying to figure out how I can in-home test this myself to find this out.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  5 лет назад +4

      Well if you want the cleanest possible sound pre pros are the way to go. Honestly if you value audio quality who cares if it doesn’t offer a ton of features. All that stuff has the possibly to cause other problems with the resulting output signal. Keep it simple and clean. The only pre pros I know are upgradable cost a lot. Emotiva and NAD are the most affordable. Then your looking at Storm Audio and Trinnov. Those are over $10k and above. Unfortunately home theater gear is just gonna age quick. End result really depends on what your willing to spend and your end goal.

    • @MrJjburgess11
      @MrJjburgess11 3 года назад

      Typically the pre/pro has better dacs in it . Therefore will produce better sound and channel separation than a av receiver. Plus by using an external amplifier, that will power your speakers better than the built-in amps that a receiver comes with. Hope that helps .
      I never knew about the differences either untill about a year ago.

    The total harmonic distortion in my Outlaw Audio Model 976 is
    0.7 for normal listening.
    Is that a good a good spec?
    My amp has a rating of .004 THD for normal listening.
    I have heard from other Owner's of my amp that this spec is a is indicative of why this unit sounds so
    super clean and does not cause listening fatigue😩.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 года назад

      You can tell very little by looking at specs. Its up to each company to rate its own products, so everyone does it differently.
      "My amp has a rating of .004 THD for normal listening."
      There's no way to define that. How efficient are your speakers, how big is the room and how loud do you listen? If any of those variables change, so will your THD. And I highly doubt anything close to .004 will be achieved under normal listening. To get numbers that low, with reasonably equipment, can only be done on a test bench using a test tone.

    Hey Shane, question. I think my 65” Samsun LED is giving out and might be needing a new TV. It’s a 3D TV and don’t know if I should get the only one I see available now. The Sony z9D, is $4000, but I see some other newer models around the same or cheaper range. Is that TV a bit outdated or it’s still worthy and nice HDR compared to a let’s say newer Sony that doesn’t have 3D or a Samsung QLED? What u thinking?
