@@thedeanruddI always add illicit affairs into the mix as well, because I feel like it goes so well and just adds a bit more heartbreak to Augustine’s story, showing just how much effort she put into being with James and how devastating it was for her when he walked out of her life to be with Betty again.

You should watch/react to folklore: the long pond studio sessions !! the album (and her sister album evermore) was written during the pandemic, and the long pond studio session was recorded/filmed also during the pandemic. For 14:05 exile, they sang it in their own home studios (Justin couldn’t make it to long pond) and it’s really beautiful despite not being together to sing it
Look at the lyrics of epiphany with the context of covid, picture yourself as a health worker having to go through to all of what happened specially in 2020.
Wow...Powerful. Health care workers did not get anywhere near the recognition they deserved for their strength during that time. I have even more respect for Taylor Swift knowing this. Thank you for sharing.
Also, her grandfather fought in WWII at Gudalcanal. She said in an interview that he never spoke about his experience. So, the first part of the song is from the perspective of a soldier in battle, seeing his fellow soldiers dying. As the previous commenter said the second part was about healthcare workers during covid. They were often described as being on the Frontline and "in the trenches' both of which are references to warfare. There is a horn playing which is reminiscent of the songs Taps, which is played at military funerals. The beeping you hear is a heart monitor and Taylor's heartbeat.
I can't wait for you to continue this series - not only is your channel going to get a big Swiftie-hug, but listening to all the albums is totally going to bring you closer to your girlfriend as she shares lore with you 🥰 PS: Do all the albums! but I personally can't wait until you get to Midnights 3AM edition (my favorite album that Swift-ied me) and TTPD (such great lyricism, you clearly appreciate lyrics)
Aw, you mom dating her high school boyfriend is lovely. There are invisible strings. I got back with my first husband after my second husband passed (not right away)and we both had grown. The good stuff was still there. You’re the same in many ways but you’re different too. Even my “bad boyfriend” had a string to him. Learned so so much from that short time. And man - fate kept pushing us together for years. So many near misses, even staying in the same hotel on a vacation to Hawaii at the same time but coming from different states. We never met. Sometimes learning what you don’t want, what you don’t need, what you thought was important or desirable is important too.
Yes, please keep going. She's a literal genius. As with most geniuses, there are hits and misses, there are multiple points of entry, there are places where she'll lose you and places she'll win you back. You got the haunting beauty of the lyrics and musicality. You'll find it in other aspects of her catalogue, promise.
12:29 is just pure enjoyment. This song is soooo beautiful yet heartbreaking. Bon Iver's voice is so smooth. I love this song! Also, the one that made you tear up, not the one I was thinking it would be. It has always been one of my absolute favourites from this album. It gives so many visuals, her writing is 👌🏻
I was just saying to my spouse that the people who say she can’t write either haven’t listened to her albums at all, or they’re confusing talent and taste. Also loving the appreciation for Invisible String ❤

it was a very enjoyable reaction . If you do more TS reactions I will watch. No need to speed through though, take your time to swim in her music as you go along :) And I don't need to give recommendations of what to listen next because you have Emma to guide you xD Have fun !
If you think folklore is vulnerable….. Tortured Poets is brutally transparent. She shares things she thinks/feels I wouldn’t tell anyone. And her vocal delivery is stunning. I hope you film your listening to her other albums - Swifties will come listen for sure.
Not her best work tbh, it's very scattered and heavy to take for a first listen, and the Antonoff synth sound has me sick (she really reaaally needs to shake things up for 12 if she still wants to be taken seriously), but it has some great stand-outs (Fresh Out the Slammer, loml, The Prophecy, The Bolter)
Kia ora homie, its always a moment of mental buffering when I hear another kiwi online lol. I'm a sucker for these Taylor Swift first listen videos though so have another follow, you're having a great debut! Some things to consider that I've enjoyed in other people's reaction videos (that may or may not work for you and the way you create so take it or leave it): - Pausing after a lyric hits you particularly hard to chew on it a bit - Having a swiftie like your GF to fill you in a bit on the themes and context of each song before or after it. Pausing to look at genius notesis an alternateapproach. There is just so much more depth to the songs tied to her personal experiences. Shits DEEP, and as a slut for lore (in fantasy media/video games etcs) that shit hits so much harder when you understand all the inspiration because connections start to appear between songs and albums. Its intoxicating falling into her full storytelling world and its why she's got such devoted fans. Personal thought: I think you've missed some of the undertones of Seven. Its a sweet nostalgic ode to the unhinged freedom of youth (Please picture me / In the weeds / Before I learned civility / I used to scream ferociously / Any time I wanted) absolutely, but it's also a heartbreaking childhood perspective of abuse veiled by innocence if you look a little closer (And I've been meaning to tell you / I think your house is haunted / Your dad is always mad and that must be why / And I think you should come live with / Me and we can be pirates / Then you won't have to cry / Or hide in the closet). Another with kinda hidden layers is epiphany. She wrote it to honour the healthcare workers during the lockdown stages of covid, and compared their trauma with that of her Grandfather from fighting in a world war. Realising that those lyrics were about those healthcare workers who saw so many people die horribly and had to bear witness without being able to let their families in to be with them at the end hits pretty hard 😢
I am in my 60s and been a fan since Debut. At the time, her voice was clearly a teenager’s and many of her songs were clearly teenage angst which didn’t really appeal to me on a whole but I definitely realized she was a talented songwriter and that if she continued to hone her craft (and didn’t manage to go off the rails like so many young artists do), she had a bright future. I was listening to a lot of country at the time which is how I was aware of her. When 1989 came out and she went full on pop, her voice had clearly improved and her songwriting chops were on full display. I tended to listen to whole albums more from 1989 onward as the lyrics are more adult focused but I will gladly sing Love Story, You Belong to Me, All Too Well, Red, etc. every time they on. Will I cover my ears when 22 & We Are Never Getting Back Together 😂 but on a whole her really good songs far outweigh the ones I don’t like. But that is the beauty of Taylor, she has something for almost everyone in her discography. Hope you give Evermore, TTPD/Anthology a listen too (closer to folklore in style due to Aaron Dessner (The National) being co-writer (he really is the only one she writes to tracks with whereas with Jack Antonoff, his co-writing is supplementing/editing what Taylor has already written). But Reputation, Midnights are also worth a full listen.

the title track of evermore is also with Bon Iver, and its AMAZING btw but another voice her voice goes SO well with is the national!! She has a song with them called coney island, which is one of my most FAVOURITE songS EVER. But she also has another song with the national called The alcott, which is from the national's album, and if u can PLEASE listen to that song its so so so beautiful!!

You nearly immediately picked up on the fact that Taylor is an extremely visual artist! New sub. I saw you Lakes reaction first. You're off to a great start. Continue to be authentic and the Swifties will gather and follow. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" - yes, I caught the John Mayer reference. You now need to go back and listen to "Dear John". Taylor dated him when she was 19. It will give you a different perspective on him.
Love your reaction to this album. New sub here! Your channel is going to grow "swiftly" because you took great care in honestly reviewing her music. Thanks!!
IDK if you noticed but Cardigan August and Betty are the same story told by 3 different people- Cardigan is Betty talking about how James cheated on her, Betty is James telling Betty that it was just "a summer thing" and apologizes, and August is by Augustine, the girl who he cheated with, who actually really had fallen for James, she even says "so much for summer LOVE" in her song. Also this is why Cardigan is so detailed about emotion and tells a big story as Betty knew James very well, while August repeats the same story a few times coz Augustine doesn't know him that well, she just tells about that moment she came and picked James up after he saw Betty dancing with somebody else
omg the story about your mom just made me tear up, so sweet. Sometimes I still miss my first love, and though I have fully accepted that it's lost it's a comforting thought that anything could happen in the future🥹❤
I can’t skip a well done Taylor reaction 😍 one of my fav things to watch 😅 As a fellow antipodean, your accent has me hella confused - in a good way! I hear kiwi with twangs of others
August, Betty, and Cardigan... songs are a trilogy, about young love, about Betty and James, who are High School sweethearts. August (Augustine) has a crush on James, and James cheats on Betty with Augustine, during the summer. For me, a few lyrics in each song helped me come to conclusions on what happened. In August her lyrics (sung by Augustine) "you were never mine to lose". In Betty her lyrics (sung by James) "standing in your cardigan, kissin in my car again". In the song Cardigan her lyrics (sung by Betty) "chase 2 girls lose the one" and that James wants to "change the ending, "Peter" losing Wendy" from "Peter Pan". My conclusion is that Betty forgave James, they're still together, and she still loves it when he still treats her like his favorite, choosing his old Cardigan. Those lyrics put the ending of their story together for me. And, I love my ending.
The story about your mom dating her high school boyfriend again is adorable! Cardigan is definitely the one you should recommend to her! Also, both times you mentioned a phoenix rising from the ashes all I could think about is You’re Losing Me and other songs from Midnights 🥺.. this whole storyline from Folklore through to TTPD is just so heartbreaking and relatable! It’s been my favorite audiobook this year 😅.
Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+ is a great way to revisit the album! It features Taylor and the album's collaborators playing the full record acoustically along with interview clips that explain background info and song inspiration.
I think it’s great trying things for your girlfriend. I’ve been to a ton of atrocious concerts but my hubby goes to concerts with me. And you know sometimes I get surprised by Disturbed and he enjoys a symphony.
I am a bit afraid y'all are gonna show up to arrest me soon and... I get it! Haha. I will be trying to pause to give my thoughts because I definitely missed important moments on my first listen.

@@thedeanruddI always add illicit affairs into the mix as well, because I feel like it goes so well and just adds a bit more heartbreak to Augustine’s story, showing just how much effort she put into being with James and how devastating it was for her when he walked out of her life to be with Betty again.
Ahhh you didn't listen to The Lakes, personal favorite from the album! But that was a great reaction, any Swiftie will tell you we all wish we could listen to this album & many others for the first time again, she's so good! Carry on with her other albums, to get the lore you really need to start at the beginning to tie some tracks together
You might wanna check back here tomorrow... 🤭
I LOVE THE LAKES
@@thedeanruddlove to see a reactor feeding the fans 🖤
There is nothing in this world I enjoy better than witnesing the birth of a Swiftie in real time. Subscribed and ready to hold your hand throughout this wild ride. We are all mad down here, but the water is great.
Oh the satosugo edits with my tears ricochet are devastating
i respect only knowing my tears ricochet from a satosugu edit that's real
They go so well with Taylor, tears in my satosugu eyes
I’m a sucker for a satosugu edit
@@thedeanrudd i see a lot of taylor’s swift satosugu edits in your future (also some people ship gojo and taylor swift.. lmao)
@@arrozconcanela this song and suburban legends and many others 😭 tears in my satosugu eyes

Mirrorball is for all the people pleasers who never feel like enough
Also, you missed a lyric you might appreciate (or at least I do lol): they told me all of my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential
Honestly, it feels like almost every line can be unpacked and appreciated. It takes me back to English class haha. Really excited to listen to more albums, especially when I'm more comfortable in front of the camera lol
@@thedeanruddyou are not wrong. In fact I think they studied Swift Lyrics in several colleges this past fall. Funny I just listened to a dude who said her lyrics were simplistic.
@@thedeanrudd do 1989 if you want pop, reputation if you wanna have fun (you must know what happened to her in that period tho to appreciate the album), midnights is synth pop and it’s about 13 sleepless nights…
As a Swiftie, every Taylor Swift's song has a connection from her previous songs that we heard in the past.
Crying over Mirrorball it's one of the most swiftie thing I ever saw someone do. Welcome to the club my boy ❤
Yes…that’s when I hit subscribe
mirrorball bridge never fail to wreck me everytime i hear it even though i've been listening it for years lol
Oh man. As a swiftie from the start this album took me by such a wonderful surprise when it came out. So beautiful and so different from her previous works.
I loved watching this. Can’t wait for you to do more of these. Also you should really listen to the lakes (the bonus track) i feel like it ties the album together.
Side note your girlfriend is very lucky to have someone get eras tour tickets for her after just 3 months of dating. I wish you two all the love in the world!
You should check out “The Lakes” it’s a bonus track for Folklore and one of the best tracks on the album imo
It was my most streamed song this year😭😭
Soooo you might wanna check back here tomorrow... 🤭
when i got to the ending of the video and you said “idk if anyone’s watching this” i was confused for a moment, and then i checked your channel…WHAT??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS YOUR FIRST VIDEO EVER???? i would’ve never guessed omg i loved it so much
You should watch/react to folklore: the long pond studio sessions !! the album (and her sister album evermore) was written during the pandemic, and the long pond studio session was recorded/filmed also during the pandemic. For 14:05 exile, they sang it in their own home studios (Justin couldn’t make it to long pond) and it’s really beautiful despite not being together to sing it
Long Pond Studio Sessions are 100% coming, these comments have made me super excited to get cozy and chuck it on
@@thedeanrudd omggg yayyyy can’t wait for that to come!!
@@maryball1022 that too 💯
I can't wait for you to continue this series - not only is your channel going to get a big Swiftie-hug, but listening to all the albums is totally going to bring you closer to your girlfriend as she shares lore with you 🥰
PS: Do all the albums! but I personally can't wait until you get to Midnights 3AM edition (my favorite album that Swift-ied me) and TTPD (such great lyricism, you clearly appreciate lyrics)
Wow, beautifully stated. Thank you for sharing that story ❤
omg this was amazing through and through, i love how you analyzed the lyrics and actually recognized the depth of the words
It gives so many visuals, her writing is 👌🏻
A new swiftie is born! Incredible reaction video, keep going ❤️
Im only one album in but I’m very excited and stoked about the journey ahead
I was just saying to my spouse that the people who say she can’t write either haven’t listened to her albums at all, or they’re confusing talent and taste.
Also loving the appreciation for Invisible String ❤
It's frustrating! Like I just listened/reacted to The Lakes and !!!!! Masterful poetry.
Silent watcher from Argentina here! I don't usually comment on RUclips videos but I just wanted to say that I loved watching this and I also loved how you mentioned your girlfriend in every song. I hope to see more of your content soon!!
it was a very enjoyable reaction . If you do more TS reactions I will watch. No need to speed through though, take your time to swim in her music as you go along :) And I don't need to give recommendations of what to listen next because you have Emma to guide you xD Have fun !
Agreed. Plus she will tell you relevant lore.
the satosugu edits with taylor are the best 😂😂 i loved your reaction, can't wait for the evermore one ❤
The coven has been summoned and we have arrived. You are in good hands, good sir.
Instantly subbed for more! 🤗 always my fav watching people fall in love with her writing!
If you think folklore is vulnerable….. Tortured Poets is brutally transparent. She shares things she thinks/feels I wouldn’t tell anyone. And her vocal delivery is stunning. I hope you film your listening to her other albums - Swifties will come listen for sure.
Thank you! More to come very shortly
Hard agree. TTPD is my favourite album, with Midnights coming second 😊
Kia ora homie, its always a moment of mental buffering when I hear another kiwi online lol. I'm a sucker for these Taylor Swift first listen videos though so have another follow, you're having a great debut! Some things to consider that I've enjoyed in other people's reaction videos (that may or may not work for you and the way you create so take it or leave it):
- Pausing after a lyric hits you particularly hard to chew on it a bit
- Having a swiftie like your GF to fill you in a bit on the themes and context of each song before or after it.
"again this is huntingly beauutif-" *HUSH*
Killed me
I am in my 60s and been a fan since Debut.
Loved your reactions to Folklore. SUBSCRIBED! Exile is my #2 Taylor Swift favorite song... my #1 is All Too Well. Although there are 4 other songs on this album in my Top 13 songs! Folklore is one my favorite Taylor Swift albums.
Thank you! I’m excited to see where these songs rank for me after listening to the rest of Taylor Swifts albums
3:24 I just realized the front of his hair is making a heart shape omg?
bon iver is featured on the song evermore and he has backing vocals on ivy.
Hes background vocals on renegade - big red machine ft taylor swift
Yeah idk why, its been a month, i keep coming back to your reaction over and over again seeing ur reaction to mirrorball. Seeing you tear up made me feel like you felt what i felt simply because its so underrated
And I was the 13th sub 🤣🤣
If that doesn't confirm I am Australia's biggest swiftie, i don't know what does.
Yeeeooowww, that's the universe working for you/me 😅
I asked my girlfriend the significance of 13 and she laughed at me! Then she explained it haha. You can be immortalized as the 13th subscriber!

yayy new music reactor! instant sub homie
your mum's story of dating her high school boyfriend now is sooo cutee
the title track of evermore is also with Bon Iver, and its AMAZING btw but another voice her voice goes SO well with is the national!! She has a song with them called coney island, which is one of my most FAVOURITE songS EVER. But she also has another song with the national called The alcott, which is from the national's album, and if u can PLEASE listen to that song its so so so beautiful!!
great reaction! also as a Chinese swiftie, im so glad to see the chinese words 爱情 hanging on the wall, loved it!
Thank you! I made that myself about a decade ago when I went to a calligraphy class
Love this. You did such a good job. Please do more. Swiftie approved.
you crying over mirrorball gave the song a different meaning to me and now im not sure if im able to listen to it the same way 😢
Coming here from the lakes vid... exited to go on this journey with you! Let's gooooooooo
Loved your reaction... so honest! So happy you liked this album... cant wait for more!
I honestly loved this video sm,
also I think you should either react to evermore or The Tortured Poets Department next, both my personal favorites and very similar to folklore.
Seven took FOREVER to hit me. Now it makes me SOB. The viewpoint of a child with a friend who lives in an abusive home is so powerful. 😭
SAMEEEE.... i was ignoring this song for a long time and two weeks ago it hit me soo hardddd
@ that and Epiphany took me longer than they should have 😭 but now they both make me so emotional.
Subbed for more tswift! Swift Longpond Studio sessions or TTPD /Anthology reaction would be great.
My girlfriend saw this said that's an amazing idea! I'll definitely see if I can react to them :)
First of all this is such a sweet gift youre a keeper for sure
Secondly when you said "im fucking depressed" ngl i laughed like well yes! thats good its doing its job haha
Please keep recording and do Evermore next! Also dont be afriad to pause to get your thoughts out i loved hearing your feelings and insights :)
Thank you for sharing this journey through this album with us :) Loved your reaction!!! Can’t wait for more

But a matinee is a movie showing in the morning or afternoon lmao
you’re literally so chill omg instant sub from me i can’t wait to see your future videos !!! 💓
Great reaction! By the way, a matinee is a performance that occurs during the day, typically between 1-3.
Thanks!!
the satosugu edit in my tear ricochet is so real tbh
Can’t wait for more! Thanks for a great reaction to one of Taylor’s many masterpieces!
This is adorable wtf
Yess!! You give me similar energy to Jerry Bees who is my fav!
yes, please. try Evermore with the deluxe song added. It is a sister album of Folklore.
@@jetsonbantang6885 it’s already out! Check my channel ❤️
omg the story about your mom just made me tear up, so sweet. Sometimes I still miss my first love, and though I have fully accepted that it's lost it's a comforting thought that anything could happen in the future🥹❤
I can’t skip a well done Taylor reaction 😍 one of my fav things to watch 😅
As a fellow antipodean, your accent has me hella confused - in a good way! I hear kiwi with twangs of others
It's Kiwi, just from the Far South (rolled r's)!
It was very enjoyable listening back to those songs and having a clearer picture of these three and their story
Folklore is the greatest album of all time there is no skip in it luv ur reaction
It really is filled to the brim with bangers
Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+ is a great way to revisit the album! It features Taylor and the album's collaborators playing the full record acoustically along with interview clips that explain background info and song inspiration.
betty saying that she knew everything when she was young and james just using his age to be a jerk
