A selection of footage to recap the process of painting the Arai helmet for a Formula Ford driver. The work was completed using Auto Air automotive paint and finished with durable 2k clear.

Awesome video!!! Very inspiring to watch. I've been playing with some helmets and an airbrush over the past year and abit as custom helmets excite me. Mine don't turn out anywhere near that good but I've been doing some of the same things. I feel like having another go now 😀

this is a great job mate, all done in water base airbrush paint? obviously cleared in 2pack. but seriously great work
Cheers. Yep, all water based Auto Air paint apart from the clear, it was the first real project with water based but it was easy enough to get used to and work with

What’s a good tip for avoiding errors when peeling tape? I saw you had a couple spots where when pulling the tape, it took a chip off of the adjacent color. I’ve done this plenty of times....lighter coats and longer wait time between coats? What would help prevent this? Thanks

+J-Rod can i use wrapping film on my helmet?? my helmet is AIROH TR1 it's made of Thermoplastic. will the wrapping film destroy the safety mechanism on helmet??

How much $/hour do you end up making when you paint a custom helmet for someone?
Did you paint the black base intirely with the air brush. Trying to learn about air brushing and wondering if you paint large areas with the airbrush or just small details. Also is it better to start on a white helmet or does it not matter. Thank you.
White is fairly easy to use as a base as it pretty easy to disinguish from the other colours but i do not think it matters what colour the base is, as long as it's a plain colour.

Hi there, is it possible to use regular spray cans to paint a helmet or is it the wrong type of paint? Cheers :)
+CitricBean Sure, you can use spray cans but make sure it's a compatible automotive paint, the quality won't be as good compared to using an airbrush though. You can do complex designs using masking, but will struggle getting drop shadows, colour fades etc...
+CitricBean only use foam safe spray otherwise you will damage the Crash part of the helmet and make it vitually useless if you do crash
+The Black Johnny Gat Not if you tape up the bottom and the eye openings ;)
CitricBean It is worth the risk? I've heard even the vapour can do some damage, and it only takes a small weak spot in the foam to render the helmet ineffective.
They are foam safe options out there it is better to research this.

I don’t think so, they need to be SNELL certified helmets I’m pretty sure.

Daniel Pina Cheers, just start off with some basic equipment and lots of practice on small personal projects until you get a handle on it. As you get better you can always upgrade your equipment if it's holding you back as a decent quality setup can be expensive. Being self taught there was a lots of trial and error, but it only got easier as i spent more time practicing.
Daniel Pina When working on helmets especially make sure they are prepped correctly, if not the paint can effect the integrity of the helmet
Thank you very much for the helping words, what is the adequate way of prepping? I've looked online for a number of different websites that help with step by step tutorials and, maybe I'm not wording it correctly, but they're close to nonexistent.
Daniel Pina Helmet prep ready for painting consists of stripping the helmet down and lots of masking, there's a lot to explain and there is a slightly different process depending on the helmet, then the exterior surface needs to be prepped for paint. I sourced an overview of the process online but talked to the pro's to make sure i covered all the details in the process, plus painted many old practice helmets when beginning
