    You might be surprised to know that there is no oil filter on the 2019+ Honda Monkey 125... Or is there?!
    Deep within the engine on the 2019+ Honda Monkey 125 there are two components that help clean the oil of larger metal flakes and particles. One is the filter screen, and the other is the oil spinner. The screen does just that, it catches the larger metal flakes that are suspended in the engine oil, which is also the transmission oil. Metal flakes are a normal occurrence in engines, and the finer particles (the things that make your oil look like metal flake paint) are captured by another mechanism called the oil spinner. The spinner acts as a centrifuge, spinning the oil to separate the metal particles and hold them inside a chamber within the spinner wheel. It's a pretty neat setup, but not the most accessible to clean if you like to maintain your bike a little sooner than the factory manual says you should (a curiously long interval period is recommended for both the oil and these filters).
    With that said, you might be interested to know how to find and clean these filters, and refill the bike with your favorite oil (I use Honda Factory fill myself).
    Enjoy and drop a comment if you enjoyed this and you learned something!

    The timing of this video was great. Changed my oil today and decided to clean those out as well. Uncanny!

      Did you replace the gasket on the case when you did this? Or were you able to reuse it?

    Great video mate for keeping it basic, I’m sure this will help a lot of “new home” mechanics.

    No need to do this.. your only looking for trouble. I've had mine for 3 years, just change the oil and that's it. Don't do this people, you'll end up ordering a crankcase gasket.... beware!!!!!!

      guessing you can get away with re-using as long as it dont break during removal ? i tend to change the oil on my monkey every 1k miles, even though manual says service at 4k it just seems worth doing given it only takes about 1 litre of oil

    Was watching your first oil change at, what 400 miles? How many miles did you have on it when you did this filter/spinner clean? I'm come up on 600 miles whats your opinion just do the oil change or whole filter clean.

    • @John5XR
      @John5XR  3 года назад +2

      The first oil change I didn’t check the filter or spinner as the manual really doesn’t even say to do it until like 4K miles. I did this when I changed the clutch lifter plate and there wasn’t hardly anything on the screen, and a little black sludge on the spinner as shown. Nothing to be concerned about and I believe the 4K interval is probably fair. I’d do it every 1k though just for peace of mind and the fact that I’ll probably never eclipse 4K miles on the bike

    Sorry dude I like your style but its not hidden its said In the manual and centrivisial oil filter been In honda since 1973. Old machinery but you still should buy real oil filter like kitaco style with rear oil replaced one. 👍 Yes I like your stuff, I chance my oil and filter with 5min

      not hidden in terms of the manual or someone who's familiar with these bikes, but for the average first time motorcycle owner (who I think this bike appeals to), they'd probably have never known about this

      you still should buy real oil filter like kitaco.... absolutely not - it's all marketing hype. My Uncle was an oil industry executive and he laughs at all the 'best brand b*ll*cks - and runs his Porsche on everyday oil...

    I did this last time I changed the oil. Should you take it all apart every time? Or every other maybe? My monkey is running after 6 months of rebuilding the rear tire. I found out that my bearing were always bad from the day I bought the bike since my gas mileage went through the roof after replacing the bearings. Almost double the miles per tank now. My clutch is catching high so I tried to adjust it and the nut broke. So I have to replace the whole clutch cable now. Waiting on that part but I think it is drive able for now. I guess if I try to do any maintenance at all something breaks.

      The manual says to clean the oil spinner every 8000 miles.
