    • @AnelisaZungu
      @AnelisaZungu  3 года назад +1

      Since first semester will be online, I think it will be easier for you to try & get residence. Email Student Housing very FREQUENTLY to see if there’s any space in res - they usually prioritize res for first years. If there is space, they will usually place you somewhere. Space avails itself because some people who got res may decline their offers because they’re going to a different varsity etc etc, things like that.

    Is fountain res far from the jammie stop and is the main road safe to walk?

    • @AnelisaZungu
      @AnelisaZungu  3 года назад +2

      Fountain Rez is a 10-15 minute walk to Lower Campus (which is where most of the Jammies Stop). But after 6pm there is a residence loop Jammie that is literally about a minute walk from Fountain Rez, it’s called the GSR stop, but that’s only after 6pm as mentioned before, and on weekends so on weekdays before 6pm you’ll have to walk to Lower.
      Main Road is relatively safe to walk as it is a busy road, just not when it gets dark.

    Hello Anelisa, is it possible for me to get a res where I'm going to live alone even on my first year or does the bursary require me to live in a res where I will have to share

    • @AnelisaZungu
      @AnelisaZungu  3 года назад

      Hey there,
      By “live alone” do you mean have your own room? If so, there are a few residences where first years have their own rooms, such as the one I lived in back in first year. But with most residences at UCT unfortunately, first years have to share so you’ll be lucky if placed in a residence where you don’t have to share in first year...so to answer your question, it is very much possible to be placed in a res where you get your own room instead of sharing.
      In terms of your bursary, that depends on your bursary agreement because shared rooms are cheaper than single rooms, but the price difference isn’t thaaat huge, just a couple of thousands so bursaries tend to pay for residence fees regardless of your room being shared or single because the price range isn’t that far apart as mentioned before. However, you should definitely double check with your bursars though to be sure, as they may want you to go for the cheaper option...but from my knowledge, most bursaries & NSFAS as well pay for any type of room, as long as it’s a school residence 🤍

    Thank you so much for this!! How safe would you say Roscommon is?

    • @AnelisaZungu
      @AnelisaZungu  3 года назад +4

      Roscommon itself I’m sure is pretty safe because there’s biometric access. Outside, it’s situated on Main Road & one thing about Main Road, it’s always a bit dodgy when it gets dark lol. But I’m sure you have nothing to worry about as the Jammie stops directly outside the building for you (assuming you’re a UCT student). All in all, I’d give it a good 8/10 for safety?

    How would you rate Nest?

    • @AnelisaZungu
      @AnelisaZungu  3 года назад +3

      Hey,
      Nest in itself I think is quite nice. My only problem with it is the location. Mowbray isn’t safe at allll, like under any circumstances. But conveniently, Nest is a few blocks away from Liesbeeck (a UCT residence) so you can negotiate with the bus driver to stop near Nest for you but not all of the drivers are nice people...so if the driver that day refuses, you’ll have to walk from Liesbeeck to Nest, vice versa. It isn’t far in minutes, definitely less than 5 mins if you’re walking, but you don’t want to be caught slipping with your belongings in the crux of Mowbray...& walking to campus isn’t an option either because you have to cross one of the dodgiest bridges ever lmao, so that’s a big no. To summarize my whole schpeel, my main issue with Nest is the location for reasons mentioned above. If you have no other option, you should go for it. Or if you don’t mind literally fast walking to the Jammie stop at Liesbeeck everyday, then go for it. But if you can find a place that has safer surroundings, rather go for that.
