I've seen a few youtube makers try featuring their partners in videos. Doesn't always work. Sometimes it's just awkward. Not the case here. I dig your brand of humor and your lady brings the funny too. Very fun to watch. The project is cool too.
That poly vs pva for splines is a good nugget. This also gives a true representation of what a "simple project" like a frame takes to be done right and look good.
Just found the channel (shoutout to Lincoln St) and really like the content. This is my favorite video of yours so far. I think having someone in the shop that you’re teaching is really different from most woodworking channels that just talk at the camera during the process. Also, you should make a video all about teaching Rachel the table saw.
I love the: "we could have bought these" comment at the end. Most woodwork is done for the enjoyment and the quality of the piece that will result. Well done, love your channel, new subscriber as of last week.
Scott/Rachel so much fun and chemistry between the two of you. Keep it up, I think more women will find your channel entertaining with Rachel in front of the camera, as well. Mims
The modem connecting at 2:24 is perfect for the moment! You guys make some great videos. Truth be told, sometimes I forget what it is I'm watching or rather why I'm watching because of that. The way you two interact is fantastic! And you both do nice work!
This is my first time seeing one of your videos - I saw this recommendation on the JAR Made channel. I'm blown away by the quality of your video! Great shots, instructions, and awesome humor. I look forward to seeing more!
Great stuff! Can relate to when my kids want "help" me with my projects! My (10 yo) son and I made kayaks together. He was very proud that he made his "all by himself".
This was entertaining and informative. Looking forward to the next video. I am about to watch the shop tour video. I am trying to fit my wife’s car in my 2 car workshop.
@1:19 Prince Scott Stuart? "Mark me". Or was that the whiteboard asking to be marked? 😂 Super funny, the way you two interact. A worthy addition to your high quality channel.
I am very surprised you don't have more videos on your channel, they all are done very well. The cut aways, quick jokes, and nerd culture references are spot on. Don't know if that is more credit to you or your film crew, but looking forward to more when you release them.
if I had a crew, then I would be able to publish more often 😅. Unfortunately, as it is, I do everything myself so it takes quite a long time to produce content. More videos coming in the spring!
I was watching WoodcraftBySuman's bench build video and at the bottom of his page, your channel was recommended. I tend to like smaller channels. So I took a shot. I really enjoyed the video and the Chemistry from both of you. She absolutely adores you. My wife used to look at me that way. 20 years, two kids, and two military deployments take a toll. Dont get me wrong there is still love its just different now. I am generally not a fan of the couples thing, but this works. Anyway, screw what the internet thinks.. You guys do you. I will enjoy watching you guys grow.
For some guys, having their SO in the shop would be a dream come true. Others, it would be a nightmare. She has good camera presence, and is able to handle the tools a bit.. maybe she could do a segment of her own on women in woodworking, doing fairly straightforward projects and craftlike theings that would appeal to artists (more nontechnical projects) - like the pic frames you just did. I would not have bothered to tell her she could have bought the frames.. these were far superior quality! So, get her involved in some simple projects - small garden things, birdhouses maybe, and even a scrapbook cover made of wood and router engraved could be interesting to all. Just my .01 worth.. great video!
I've just discovered your channel. I loved this video! Very fun to watch the dynamics between you two. I also enjoy your design style and not following the crowd just because everyone else is. I look forward to watching the rest of your videos.
Hey! Just found your channel today and i have watched almost all videos now. Your content is great, you are honest and i love that you show your mistakes and be real about the time and effort the projects need. Greetings from Finland!
Nice job! You kids are a real hoot. What a great learning experience (for the both of you) . You have a nicely equipped workshop. I wouldn’t advise using you table saw as a glueing table.I assume you work space is somewhat limited, so you have to make the best of what you got. Good luck on your next project, keep your assistant busy. 10:03
Yeah I realized after the fact that she wasn't wearing safety glasses. I was more concerned about her hair, clothing and proper technique. I forget about safety glasses because my regular glasses are good enough for me.
@@ScottWalshWoodworking - I think it’s an advantage I don’t need glasses yet at (shall we say) a more _advanced_ age than you. Donning the safety glasses is part of the flow that I don’t think will leave me even after I start to wear glasses all the time in a few years. That transition is an attitude shift that is important, and probably not as easy to standardize without the ritual.
I just watched all of your videos - I absolutely love your woodworking tips and approach as a hobbyist. I've subscribed and liked all of your videos :) Regards from Scandinavia.
Just found your channel and I love it. Someone else may have already made the suggestion, but give Old Brown Hide Glue a try. It's easier than mixing your own and better than well-known premixed hide glues.
Cute video. Teaser title. Safety note: tie up dangly things--hair, clothing ties, pulls before operating machinery with spinning parts. Rachel bent over a few times where her hair came scarily close to spinning blades. There's nothing worse than having your body drawn into a rapidly moving cutting blade! Stay safe and promote safe practices!
Very nicely done. I like how you summarized it with “we could have bought these?” That’s a constant issue with me…Is it worth the effort, or should I just buy it. I choose one over the other depending on my mood
I'm with her -- the table saw is scary. Been using one for years, and it's still terrifying. Almost as scary as the circular saw. If there's one thing scarier than a large round (very) sharp blade, spinning very fast, it's one of those, but you're holding it in your hand.
Ya, it probably didn't help that she's a foot shorter. Definitely would do better with some jessem rollers so she doesn't feel the need off center body lurch.
It's the Dewalt DWE575DC dust collection adapter that fits most of their cric saws. The bosch hose fits right on the dewalt adapter, no other adapters needed.
Hah! I do like hand tools when I can calm down and slow down! But yeah, most times I just need to get stuff done quick. I've never actually used a hand power planer, but now I never will!
Fantastic video! The frames came out great and it was awesome to see the chemistry between Rachel and yourself! I think bringing Rachel into the videos should be a recurring thing!
Again, not my account here but I enjoy your videos. First off Rachel, it's machines that are boring besides being loud and messy. Second, Scott, why do you waste so much glue? Interested in doing another test? Get something like Ritz dye and mix it with some glue. Not much is needed. Take some 2 by 2 pieces of various woods you use and put the glue on end grain and straight grain on the wood pieces. Let dry and then cut the pieces in half along the endgrain to see how much actually gets absorbed by the wood. This will show you just how much glue is actually used. You can also test how much sanding or chiseling is needed. Leaving some grain\fiber tooth improves gluing without degrading the aesthtic value of the joint. Much more to all of this but this should get you thinking. Remember, wood is not a material. It is not consistent, consistent or uniform which defines a material. Wood is a mastic composite and all that that implies. By the way, Merry Christmas to you and Rachel.

@@WoodcraftBySuman LOOOLL soon this channel WILL be mine!!!
Ya that was cool definitely not something you see on every channel.
I appreciate your combined sense of humor, and it is awesome seeing someones other half just as involved and supportive of their hobby.
That look by you at the end Scott when Rachel finds out you could have bought them is the best!!
"We could have bought these?!" - hahahahahaha...I spit my coffee right out.

This video had me smiling so much my cheeks got sore. I hope you make more videos with her, she is such a good sport and a delight.
Pretty fun to watch. Love the humor in your videos. She's a pretty great compliment. Definitely should include her more.
At least we have chemistry ON camera muahahahha
Oof
ouch
I like sharing videos like this with my wife (we watch them together). Folks doing a project together, plus it's funny. Win win!!!
That green top and scrunchie is definitely a good color for you. Make more videos together. Thank you both for a great video.
