greet points! I think one of the BIGGEST issues that you don’t hear a lot about this camera is the bad audio pre amps. I have the S5 and S5 ii and on both cameras the pre amps are incredibly loud/noisy to a point where the audio becomes unusable. And sometimes depending on the settings, you’ll hear a weird faint, chirping/buzzing noise. the only way to solve it is by using the XLR adapter but I’m not trying to have that on my camera all the time just to get good sounding audio, especially if i want my setup to be light. I also own the Sony ZV-E1 and the pre amps on it are 1000x better than the S5/S5ii. Trust me, I’ve done every audio test and played around with all the settings you can think of and nothing changed. With that being said, it should just work without having to figure out work arounds to get it to work! my background is in audio engineering so I definitely know what i’m hearing with the audio coming out of this camera. even tho i much prefer the image on my S5ii than the ZVE1, the bad audio makes me want to sell the S5 and stick to sony. audio for me huge, so this might be a deal breaker for others out there. has anyone else out there experience bad sounding pre amps on the s5ii?
I agree with you! I had the S5 and now i have the S5II and the pre amps are really bad! i still own a Lumix G85 and this cheap little camera beats the S5 and S5II when it comes to pre amps. I tested the G85 and S5ii with the same mic and gain value, the audio coming from the G85 is fuller and no buzzing noise, other then that the S5ii in a great camera but i wonder why Panasonic cut corners on the audio side.
Ive really enjoyed my S5ii experience so far. The HDMI delay is probably the most annoying thing for me, to the point that I have basically just stopped using external monitors/recorders. Luckily, I don't really mind using the on-camera LCD, especially since you can load in your LUTs and have a solid idea of what the final image will look like anyway. I still use my Canon R5 for photography, and having that option also takes a lot of pressure off the S5ii, since it only really needs to perform for video.
Thanks for the input! I feel the same. It’s a pretty big bummer feeling hesitant to use certain gear that makes our jobs easier because it could wig out mid-shoot… not fun
I love my S5ii, but the HDMI latency is seriously bothering me. I do live stream piano show almost every week with thousands of people watching online for years. I’ve used GH5, X-T4, FX30 to shoot or live stream before, and none of them has this issue. And I just bought my new S5ii last year, and this issue really annoyed me. The delay of S5ii is so noticeable even if you turn off the audio, I still have to manually adjust the audio to delay 7-10 frames to sync with the video on streaming software like OBS, or else my audience would notice that weirdness. And the situation is getting worse when you do 30fps over 60fps, it’s like 10-15 frames. Just to mention, this could cause a lot of problems when you wanna work with 2 or 3 cameras (other brands) simultaneously. The audience would notice there’s some thing strange, and if you do a live dissolve transition, it would be really awkward. I just love this camera in many ways, and I don’t think there’s any reason that Panasonic couldn’t fix this simple problem. It’s so frustrated.
And one more thing - not many cameras have the ports placed well. I own the SONY A7 IV - it's a great camera in many aspects, but the cables also block the LCD screen - even if You plug in Your headphones, You can't tilt it at all. I gave up the external monitor route for now. BTW, I freaking LOVE your logo man (being a graphic designer myself). The font is just perfect, especially with the little ''play'' icon.. A1! 👌
Love it! Those things are mostly pretty small for me, but I get that they could be frustrating for you. The only one that is sort of annoying me is the AF tracking or lack thereof. I have to think they will sort that out but we will see. That and there seems to be a general largginess to this camera. Boot time seems slow compared to other mirrorless cams, playback is a little slow to pull up, etc. All in all I love mine!
The two hdmi related bugs that annoy me the most - when you want to punch in to check focus, sometimes it just won’t do it. It’ll just clear all the info off the screen. Great video Anthony! Seems like the S5iix is great but still needs a bit more to go and makes me excited for what Lumix has to offer in the years to come.
A weird fix for the "5 frames per second through HDMI" Is switching the custom button. I have my live stream settings saved to C3, but I have to switch to C2 and then back to C3 to get it to look right. Doesn't always happen, but I found it annoying as well, and at least that works to resolve it.
Great honest review. I have the S5iix and would say all those points are the ones that bug me too. I've found the autofocus to work well with say talking heads - but stick a couple of humans in frame and it becomes a bit unruly. The HDMI lag is crap too. I haven't rigged mine out and kept the form factor small and portable and find myself taking it out everyday - and that's the thing about this camera, I'd say the best camera is the one that you grab and wanna take everywhere with you. I love that about this cam. Small, portable with an amazing image.
Every one of your videos makes me happy that I’m still using the original S5. :-) The only thing that really annoys me on my camera is that I only have a 30 minute limit in 4K. That’s pretty annoying sometimes. And of course the moire. But I shot a full length feature for almost 2 years solely with the S5, and didn’t have one shot with moire, it’s just that when I saw it in my RUclips video, it’s just always in the back of my mind now. I’m still thinking of getting an S1h used, but I’m pretty happy with what I have. :-)
Honestly your first point about the position of the HDMI port is what annoys me the most about some mirrorless cameras. I have the S5 and it is my biggest pet peeve with that camera as well. That's the main reason I think my next upgrade needs to be a more cinema oriented camera.
The HDMI placement and lag is very annoying, but I use an external monitor anyway, closing the LCD to save some battery. Not ideal, they should do something about it. About the desqueezing issue: I can’t try it, because I don’t have any anamorphic, but what if you don’t apply the desqueeze on camera and let the monitor do the work? Is it possible?
My S5-II is pretty damn bulletproof. To fix moire, throw a light gausian blur on just the green channel and that should easily knock it out without hurting the details.
I get what you are saying regarding the Pocket 3. I had that camera for a few weeks, and even though its image quality is amazing, the camera is very fragile. I dropped it on a carpet from about a foot height, and it started to rattle. It didn't affect the gimbal, and everything seemed ok. I did a 30 min pov and noticed the whole left side was blurry. One of the lens elements was misaligned. If DJI manages to make an 18mm equiv Osmo Action with the same specs as Pocket 3 with the option to close the aperture down, it will be the best thing yet
Great video. I have the S5IIX and totally agree, I love this camera but the quirks man, dang. Biggest one for me is the autofocus tracking. Like you said in your other video, it’s “got the juice”, it’s just not executed right. Thought Lumix would fix it with firmware, but it’s extremely disappointint it hasn’t been addressed yet. Thanks for talking about the issues while also still acknowledging this beast of a camera
A couple of remarks : 1st I am more a SII X guy. And here's the thing : weird to record BM raw when you can use ProRes. Where I blame Lumix is that you can not choose between LT, just between 422&HD (and in HD recording is limited to 30 mns). LT is so convenient and some kind of sweet spot. SO the S5 II X provides a very handy solution of internal recording with a fast card. I come from blackmagic 4K + FCPX which explains my mindset :) 2nd : recroding talking head do you use a dummy battery or power supply with USB-c ? 3d : one thing I will never understand is the comparisons of different RAW on RUclips which compress anyway.... It's just preposterous like listening MP3 etc... You should enable downloads of your sequences with a watermark on a server for people who have some patreon partnership. But maybe it's not worth the extraload of work. 4d : I will make a sacrifice to the greek god Focus so he can bless Panasonic in their research. Good job again !
I understand but Resolve is too much for me. Like ProTools for MAO. Nobody dispute the quality. ProRes optimization in FCPX is just sick. @@AnthonyRodriguezz
Oh I never even knew the s5ii had touch tracking…. I’ve never needed or used it. I own two s5ii’s now and they just *make sense* When you can have image quality on par with almost anything else on the market, the value is unbelievable
I record while my Ninja is doing that weird lag thing all the time. The footage is perfectly fine, It's an issue exclusive to 24 fps, when you switch it goes away. Last time I looked into this it appeared to be an issue with hdmi and recorders Panasonic cannot solve on their own. All your points are valid but I'm sure a Sony or Canon camera would have an equally long list. Note that the auto focus software isn't complete yet and a large update is coming soon.
Hey with this being said, from the auto focus and the fact that even tho the ibis is phenomenal you use a gimbal, how do you feel about this camera vs the sony fx 30.
Would you shoot an Indie film on Lumix S primes & zooms or definitely get an expensive (cheap to some) Remus, Great Joy, Atlas.. anamorphic? Just love that thought of IBIS and autofocus.. Your work is amazing and channel really appreciated :))
@@AnthonyRodriguezz Brilliant, have watched all your videos and was such on the fence.. whether the anamorphic was king.. or with good lighting could achieve a cinematic look.. purchased the 18mm F1.8 as loved the look.. and now going to buy either the 28-70mm or the 20-105mm (saw a YT video perhaps pushing me in that direction very recently). Cheers Chief :)))
All these things look like can be solved by future firmware updates, probably Lumix is already working on it. In the other hand, HDMI port location is not solvable by firmware upodates, so the only approach is learning to work around it, a cable that connects vertically perhaps?
Useful to hear all of that. I have an S5 and one major issue is the moiré, as it happens too often and does generally ruin the shot, and it's only noticed afterwards in editing...! It looks like the same issue is present on the S5IIX, which is understandable I suppose. I guess it would be an issue with most cameras that do not have an optical low pass filter over the sensor, so greater or lesser extent. Though it seems more common on my S5 than when using a Blackmagic 6K Pro.
By the way, I work time to time for an internet TV and they have 3 panasonic camcorders and they have the same annoying HDMI lag, which is a pain for live editing.
the one mystery I can not seem to solve is how to uncouple AE from the shutter button ?!? For some reason the camera locks AE when pushing the button. On my Sony I can uncouple this so I can lock focus with the shutter button but AE is freely adjusting at all times. Any Idea - I looked at the menue 1001 times -I studied the manual - I asked people - am I stupid ?!?
HDMI lag is a real problem for me. We had some back up MFT cameras like the GH5S but for streaming they add so much latency you can't use them. This video has stopped me buying the S5II because of the same issue. I wonder when Panasonic will fix it?
Are u using lumix lenses with this camera ? The Panasonic 24-70 2.8 pro and 50mm pro will solve a lot of your continuous auto focus issues . the lumix s line may be just as good but I don’t know if the s line motors are stronger . Regardless native lenses will change lots of ppl lives
Does the AF hold up well with Canon lenses? I have the original S5 and love using my sigma lenses with it and am reaaaaally tempted by the Phase D AF. Also is the image noticeably sharper than the S5?
I did a shoot on anamorphic and yea it’s really annoying. 2x works best but only on some monitors but any other factors did that weird crop thing. Good suggestions there
We were doing follow focus, wireless transmission and all this crazy stuff and it was wild haha. I wanted to do BRAW but I couldn’t complicate my issues any further
Well I thought I had decided on the S5ii after numerous comparisons to A74, R6ii, Z6ii etc. Some other reviewers have said the autofocus is on par or better than A7S3. So a little tricky to know what to think. I don’t care about Recorder and HDMI issues but if autofocus is unreliable that is rather serious.
It’s definitely not on par or better than the a7siii. You’d get the S5ii for everything else it offers. Excellent DR, beautiful image, best ibis in the business, open gate FF and all the video centric features like shutter angle and other settings
Hi, Anthony, thanks for the video. How often did you have issues with the moire? I love this camera, but the lack of low pass filter is killing me. And is it really possible to see the moire on the camera display or just only on a computer monitor?
Moire has showed up! But it was never an issue. It’ll show up for 1-2 second of a video and even then it’s so minimal that it doesn’t hinder the project! I hope that makes sense!
ONE more HDMI issue. Not being able to downscale to 1080 on the output when recording in 4K internally. It means I can’t send my image to the director with Hollyland Cosmo C1. :-(
In my experience, the AF is not that good. It's even worse in low light - a lot of focus hunting particularly when using the tracking function. Even when you use custom AF settings it does not help that much!
I haven't update my firmware since I bought the camera last March. I've seen a few people on some of the Lumix Facebook groups say that the updates have changed the picture quality in some instances.
Woah, so you can’t send an unsqueezed anamorphic image over HDMI and then desqueeze in the monitor? With the full use of the monitor’s realestate? Big bummer, I was looking at getting an S5iiX just for the Atlas Mercury I preordered but that might be a deal breaker
Noooo you can. The only thing is it’s an open gate format so when desqueezed in the monitor the side are chomped off. It would be better if it was already desqueezed in camera and that’s what was being sent through hdmi
I mean it definitely had more functionality as it’s a wireless monitoring system as well that comes in clutch when lighting scenarios on set and you don’t have a crew
only 4th and 5th are rly noticeable , yes . Those are not camera for using with recorders , there will be always limits for sure . I wouldn't expect buying camera for 1750$ with 50mm kit and complain about . Great camera , but yes , there is room to grow
Not trying to use an external recorder, just a monitor and yes they are definitely camera that are meant to be used with monitors just like any other mirrorless cameras out there except this one has serious limitations when it comes to this part. Love the camera but it definitely has its shortcomings
While I agree with you to a certain extent, it doesn’t excuse the issues that come with that hdmi. My whole hdmi unit on an s5iix broke and I had to send it in.
Used it privately as a main photography camera and for me, it was not the most enjoyable experience because of some factors, like weight, autofocus and etc. but honestly, I think the best you can do is just try it out for some weeks and figure it out for yourself if it fits you
Never shoot a live event on a camera that has ANY reliability issues or even hints of it. Sony A6600 has been the only hybrid video camera that has proved itself fully reliable to me.
Hey great video, just wondering when it comes to autofocus. I want to get the s5 ii for a podcast, do you think it will do good tracking the subjects in the podcast when it comes to autofocus.
I’ve shot it for some podcasts and it does fine. I’ve seen it slip slightly out of focus here and there but never to a degree that is distracting like happened on their older DFD systems. The thing you have to look out for is if the mic is in front of the persons face in such a way that it is partially obstructing the cameras view, there’s a good chance it will lock onto that is read of the face itself. I’ve run into that a few times.
@@jordanshipley448 when you ran into that did it stay locked on the mic instead of the face or did it go back and forth, and did you have to change the mic to accomodate that?
@@burnieclimber it would mostly stay locked on one or the other but it switched back and forth from time to time, every few minutes. In that instance I was able to turn off face/human tracking and switch to single point AF and that worked fine. I think I’ve decided that I will mainly go MF for podcasts. There isn’t usually a ton of movement.
If you use zone AF you should be fine! Also, make sure you never use face/eye AF. That mode is absolutely useless and I have no idea why. Panasonic really dropped the ball on a couple of these modes that are the most useful…
We buy Panasonic not because it is cheap, But because the look is comparable to cinema cameras. even without using it's amazing Lut features. Because we don't use $ 15,000 lenses (just Top end Pana / Oly / Sigma. The G9ii, S5ii, GH5ii look is often better than cameras costing $40,000 more. Not to mention the Pana cinematic features pro res, BM raw . SSD waveform. That's all we'll ever need
I was following until you said the look of these cameras is better than 40k cinema cameras… I can’t see that being true when having all the same variables
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I meant It's the expensive lenses that have more of an impact on the big screen than the 16 bit codecs. because today's mirrorless with their high transfer rates (Panasonic's S1h, and pr-res raw + gamut 3 vlog on Sony has closed the gap towards cinematic cameras a lot faster than expected. Tests show that the average TV viewer cant tell the difference anymore.
LUMIX owes a lot to the people who bought this camera. It’s decent but as you mentioned, a lot of us bought this to use as a professional camera. The under delivered I’m not saying it’s a garbage camera, just saying it’s not worth the price tag as it sits. 1200 is reasonable. Def not worth more than 1400. Hopefully they announce s1 soon, but it’s doubtful. The camera industry is super worried and slow right now
Im not too worried! Lumix has a good track record of taking care of their customers. My personal experience with them has been great! They did drop the ball on a couple of things with this camera though..
@@AnthonyRodriguezzI really hope they can fix the lag. Moire fix would be great too but it would require an Olof, it’s ruined a few shoots. I would normally use a monitor for larger screen but I feel super insecure having such bad lag on it so I don’t use it. S1h/x will be baller
They aren’t but if that’s a huge factor based off of the type of work that you do then, yes it’s going to be the main focus. I specifically bought this camera for the AF as I have other bigger cinema cameras for other purposes that don’t have AF.
Recently picked up the S5ii, do you find your joystick has a weird popping noise when using it. It's really off putting when the camera is up to your face.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz yeah it seems whenever I move it and let go if it is in the bottom corner there is a popping noise, it sounds like the rubber underneath but I didn't know if it was just with it being 8 way now that it was doing it but if yours doesn't make that noise when released it must be an issue with this one.
As a photo and video shooter, I much prefer the slight risk of moire (mwah-ray, by the way) to the softened IQ that you'd get with S5 or S1H. Also if you just blur those parts slightly in post, it should be fine.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz Yeah I can't imagine it would be that bad. But do you mean that it's too much effort to go applying masks and stuff? Or just that you wouldn't want to be adding blur? Because the latter is exactly what an AA filter does haha. Honestly, lenses now are almost too sharp. I've gotten really into adding lo-fi elements to my videos in order to give them a more interesting look.
@photovideomusic both. The only difference with AA filter is that it’s tuned to the specific sensor and not a mere blur on a specific area in the frame, ya know. Having to magic mask moving subjects and all of that is also a headache 🤯
I have 4 ;) It’s wild the amount of times I’ve needed 3 or more and was able to rent the whole lot to larger productions that I’m hired on. They’ve paid for themselves even just in job rentals
I have plenty! The audio on this video was terrible… that was my fault. I tried a new setup and I was way too close to the wall and ended up getting nasty reflection off the walls so I had to process the audio pretty intensely in post 🤦🏽♂️
It’s definitely not MUCH bigger and thicker 🤦🏽♂️ It’s actually smaller and the only reason it’s thicker is because of the fan 😂 The a7siii is basically the same size and doesn’t have the hdmi issue.
Man, can we please end the current era of clickbait “gotcha” camera review videos that try to be contrarian just for clicks? The formulaic thumbnails and “professional” filmmakers telling us their shocking opinions about gear? Just go film something and stop talking about filming. Everyone jumping on the same gimmicks. A weird fix for the "5 frames per second through HDMI" Is switching the custom button. I have my live stream settings saved to C3, but I have to switch to C2 and then back to C3 to get it to look right. Doesn't always happen, but I found it annoying as well, and at least that works to resolve it.
Very interesting!
Odd we have to do that but it’s nice that there are workarounds
Does this issue only happen when live streaming? Thanks!
It happens whether you’re live streaming or not
@@AnthonyRodriguezz dang that's a bummer, works great on my original S5
@BenPhanStudios yeah.. it’s happens on the s1h too
considering no camera is perfect these issues are minimal besides AF needing improvements. Props for being honest!
The hdmi stuff is incredibly frustrating for professional work but yes you’re right!
@@AnthonyRodriguezz for the issues that are software/firmware related hopefully Lumix is listening
Thanks for the input! I’m with you on that last statement
Thanks brother!
That s5 is a beast 💪🏼
Yeah this video made me realize it's not necessary to update my S5 just yet haha
Honestly your first point about the position of the HDMI port is what annoys me the most about some mirrorless cameras. I have the S5 and it is my biggest pet peeve with that camera as well. That's the main reason I think my next upgrade needs to be a more cinema oriented camera.
Ik… it’s why I have more than on cam
The HDMI placement and lag is very annoying, but I use an external monitor anyway, closing the LCD to save some battery. Not ideal, they should do something about it.
About the desqueezing issue: I can’t try it, because I don’t have any anamorphic, but what if you don’t apply the desqueeze on camera and let the monitor do the work? Is it possible?
The image is tiny if I do that
My S5-II is pretty damn bulletproof. To fix moire, throw a light gausian blur on just the green channel and that should easily knock it out without hurting the details.
I’ve had too many issues and even sent mine in for repair for me to call it bulletproof.
But I still love the camera
I get what you are saying regarding the Pocket 3. I had that camera for a few weeks, and even though its image quality is amazing, the camera is very fragile. I dropped it on a carpet from about a foot height, and it started to rattle. It didn't affect the gimbal, and everything seemed ok. I did a 30 min pov and noticed the whole left side was blurry. One of the lens elements was misaligned. If DJI manages to make an 18mm equiv Osmo Action with the same specs as Pocket 3 with the option to close the aperture down, it will be the best thing yet
Yeah it was wrecked!
Thanks for commenting your thoughts man! Appreciate it
A couple of remarks :
1st I am more a SII X guy. I come from blackmagic 4K + FCPX which explains my mindset :)
2nd : recroding talking head do you use a dummy battery or power supply with USB-c ?
3d : one thing I will never understand is the comparisons of different RAW on RUclips which compress anyway.... It's just preposterous like listening MP3 etc... You should enable downloads of your sequences with a watermark on a server for people who have some patreon partnership. But maybe it's not worth the extraload of work.
4d : I will make a sacrifice to the greek god Focus so he can bless Panasonic in their research.
Good job again !
Thanks!
BM Raw is far superior to ProRes imo…
I simply use the battery. No fancy dummy batter 😉
I understand but Resolve is too much for me. Like ProTools for MAO. Nobody dispute the quality. ProRes optimization in FCPX is just sick. @@AnthonyRodriguezz
Oh I never even knew the s5ii had touch tracking…. I’ve never needed or used it.
I own two s5ii’s now and they just *make sense*
When you can have image quality on par with almost anything else on the market, the value is unbelievable
They do but it’s unusable. If you’ve ever used a Sony camera and have experienced the power of touch tracking… you’ll never be able to unsee it 😳😂
I record while my Ninja is doing that weird lag thing all the time.
Oh shoot! Didn’t know. So weird…
Regarding the AF, yeah it seems underdeveloped but still… it’s been a whole year!
Trust me, Sony and Canon's list are much longer!
Hey with this being said, from the auto focus and the fact that even tho the ibis is phenomenal you use a gimbal, how do you feel about this camera vs the sony fx 30.
Way better in every way
Spot on! Agree with everything here and a dedicated firmware update *ahem LUMIX* can fix many of them 👍
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Excellent video, can you make a quick color grading V-log tutorial using DaVinci resolve?
It’s in the pipeline 😉
The HDMI placement issue is pretty much the same on most of these hybrid mirrorless cameras.
I could have sworn on my fx3 and a7siii this was a non issue
We need more honest videos like this.
Thanks bro!
Great video hopefully Panasonic is listening.
Thanks for this- I'm sticking with my S1 for the moment.
Would you shoot an Indie film on Lumix S primes & zooms or definitely get an expensive (cheap to some) Remus, Great Joy, Atlas.. anamorphic? Just love that thought of IBIS and autofocus.. Your work is amazing and channel really appreciated :))
I did!
I think it’s a great camera for that! Depending on your camera body I would not opt for a set of those lenses
@888berg thanks for the support!
I’d definitely go for the 28-70!
@@AnthonyRodriguezz 🤟
Why are you using an external monitor and still worried about flipping out the camera monitor?
I don’t always use an external monitor
All these things look like can be solved by future firmware updates, probably Lumix is already working on it. In the other hand, HDMI port location is not solvable by firmware upodates, so the only approach is learning to work around it, a cable that connects vertically perhaps?
Hopefully!
That would solve the issue of the cable getting in the way when flipping it or adjusting it.
I'm tempted to buy that $700 olpf that one company has for the lumix cameras.
Definitely tempting
Useful to hear all of that. I have an S5 and one major issue is the moiré, as it happens too often and does generally ruin the shot, and it's only noticed afterwards in editing...! It looks like the same issue is present on the S5IIX, which is understandable I suppose. I guess it would be an issue with most cameras that do not have an optical low pass filter over the sensor, so greater or lesser extent. Though it seems more common on my S5 than when using a Blackmagic 6K Pro.
Yeah… it’s a little more common with some cameras than others even though most sensors do not have an OLPF in front of them
By the way, I work time to time for an internet TV and they have 3 panasonic camcorders and they have the same annoying HDMI lag, which is a pain for live editing.
I could imagine…
the one mystery I can not seem to solve is how to uncouple AE from the shutter button ?!? For some reason the camera locks AE when pushing the button. On my Sony I can uncouple this so I can lock focus with the shutter button but AE is freely adjusting at all times. Any Idea - I looked at the menue 1001 times -I studied the manual - I asked people - am I stupid ?!?
Hahaha honestly idk… have you tried the lumix fb groups?
HDMI lag is a real problem for me. We had some back up MFT cameras like the GH5S but for streaming they add so much latency you can't use them. This video has stopped me buying the S5II because of the same issue. I wonder when Panasonic will fix it?
Not sure when! Hopefully sooner than later 🙏🏼
Sigma lenses. Lumix lenses help but don’t necessarily fix the issue unfortunately
Great video, where can you find one for $1200?
Hunt around! You can find them used for less sometimes
Does the AF hold up well with Canon lenses? I have the original S5 and love using my sigma lenses with it and am reaaaaally tempted by the Phase D AF. Also is the image noticeably sharper than the S5?
It works well.
Why are you wondering how their AF system performs with Canon lenses???
@@GrayGhostDog1 With the Sigma MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21 CANON EF-L, you can use Canon EF lenses with your L mount camera.
50fps videos does not work at all. There are videos on RUclips after firmware update 3.0.
i think the af is fine but i wish it was the same level in 1080p
“Fine” is the right word to describe it
I did a shoot on anamorphic and yea it’s really annoying. 2x works best but only on some monitors but any other factors did that weird crop thing. Good suggestions there
We were doing follow focus, wireless transmission and all this crazy stuff and it was wild haha. I wanted to do BRAW but I couldn’t complicate my issues any further
Yeah it’s a shame… I can still work with it, don’t get me wrong!
Still seems like a simple fix! What do I know though?! I’m not a technical engineer 😂
@@AnthonyRodriguezz yea idk if this is a Panasonic thing or hdmi thing or what. Curious how other cameras handle this issue
@@AnthonyRodriguezzThanks Anthony! Good to hear your views. If you were choosing between A7iv and S5ii for a hybrid camera which would you choose?
Those reviewers are full of sht. I sold my a7s3 for the Panasonic and man do I miss it
S5ii 100%
And not because the AF is better but because everything else
@@AnthonyRodriguezzThanks for that!
Hi, Anthony, thanks for the video. How often did you have issues with the moire? I love this camera, but the lack of low pass filter is killing me. And is it really possible to see the moire on the camera display or just only on a computer monitor?
I’ve never had an issue personally…
That's interesting, because you said about it in your video:) 06:26
Moire has showed up! But it was never an issue.
It’ll show up for 1-2 second of a video and even then it’s so minimal that it doesn’t hinder the project!
I hope that makes sense!
ONE more HDMI issue. Not being able to downscale to 1080 on the output when recording in 4K internally. It means I can’t send my image to the director with Hollyland Cosmo C1. :-(
Oh shoot…
Probably the first person that speaks honestly about the issues of this camera. Especially about moiré
Thanks
In my experience, the AF is not that good. It's even worse in low light - a lot of focus hunting particularly when using the tracking function. Even when you use custom AF settings it does not help that much!
Yeah…
I'm no fan boy of any brand but sounds a lot like "5 reasons on why FX3 is still industry standard" :o
Not a fan of the fx3 😉
Man, i miss my a7s3. Its disgusting how bad Panasonic is compared to Sony whem it comes to AF reliability.
Yeah… the other features and IQ make it worth it for me
I haven't update my firmware since I bought the camera last March. I've seen a few people on some of the Lumix Facebook groups say that the updates have changed the picture quality in some instances.
Id be very surprised if that were actually true…
One of the update specifically enhance the image quality
Oh ok that’s good! So it changed for the better.
That’s more believable 🙌🏼
I guess I should update then!
@KennyCarter90 go for it!
The black bars is an hdmi port resolution restriction.
Understandable, but if the actually footage was desqueezed in camera that would solve that issue
What lens did you use to shoot this video? It looks great.
Sigma 28-70
Hey, how do you find the Mars M1 with the Lumix? Better than a Shinobi?
I mean it definitely had more functionality as it’s a wireless monitoring system as well that comes in clutch when lighting scenarios on set and you don’t have a crew
Have you experienced frozen issues or battery drain issues ? I saw same users reporting these problems with the S5 ii
Yeah I haven’t had that either
Wait… your selling your 6K? The Osmo pocket broke? We need more videos 😂
Hahahaha this is going to turn into a drama channel
And the streaming is impossible to do
Yeah… I didn’t even think of that
only 4th and 5th are rly noticeable , yes .
@@AnthonyRodriguezz yes , but there is no ideal camera , even cameras which cost x2-x3 mor than S5II have disadvantages ...
While I agree with you to a certain extent, it doesn’t excuse the issues that come with that hdmi.
My whole hdmi unit on an s5iix broke and I had to send it in.
@@AnthonyRodriguezz even first Blacmagick camera had this issue .. bmppc and Bmpcc4k . full hdmi rules )
That’s was over 5 years ago 😅
How do you like this camera for shooting weddings and other events? Is it possible to compete with other cameras in photography?
It’s doable for sure!
I’ve shot some live events doing photography alone and I’d say it was a 7.5/10
How does it compare to the BMPCC 6K PRO?
Used it privately as a main photography camera and for me, it was not the most enjoyable experience because of some factors, like weight, autofocus and etc. but honestly, I think the best you can do is just try it out for some weeks and figure it out for yourself if it fits you
Not sure. Don’t have a ton of experience with that camera
@ShangleLP I second this
Never shoot a live event on a camera that has ANY reliability issues or even hints of it. Sony A6600 has been the only hybrid video camera that has proved itself fully reliable to me.
I had used it for months prior and it just so happens that on this event it goes bad 🤦🏽♂️
get a right angle cabke or corner adapter?
Unfortunately, that doesn’t fix the issue.
It’s motion picture perfect
She’s purrty for sure
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I’ve had the s5 twice and now the s5ii and told myself I’m sticking with it this time.
I’m curious how you came up with this 1400 dollar price tag.
So funny to me that cameras are basically judged solely on auto focus.
I haven’t had that myself but I’d contact Panasonic about it.
I get that for sure!
Definitely don’t want to go blurring specific parts of my image in post though 😭
The mwah-ray issue isn’t that bad though tbh
Mans got too many cameras

It’s wild the amount of times I’ve needed 3 or more and was able to rent the whole lot to larger productions that I’m hired on. They’ve paid for themselves even just in job rentals
