Thanks for your video. Sorry if my question is dumb but do we still need to purchase the paid firmware upgrade in order to shoot raw on the sII? Because I couldn't find where I can purchase it from, and wondered how much it would be!
Dustin! If LUMIX decides to partner up with Sennheiser on hotshoe supported Mic’s - that would be d-o-p-e. Make them do it. I am German, I would give you a ride from airport to Sennheiser. Maybe Sennheiser - Leica - Arri (Tour?) Go, get it.
Dustin, does the new firmware improve autofocus/face tracking at all? Also, does it reset all of your custom settings? I have a bunch of settings and custom profiles saved and would hate to lose them.
Yes it improves AF tracking. It's the same AF as the G9II. When I did the update it didn't reset any of my custom settings. You can also export your custom settings to a SD card to be safe
Nope, won't do it. Shame, I can do it on the Sony E1 as it won't crop to apsc but the high image stabilization will take it to a good crop eliminating the vignette like you showed on this video.
@@DustinArmstrongPro I did some quick tests. It's basically on a case by case basis. On an old Hexanon full frame lens on an adapter you get all the 6K modes. On a full frame Canon on the Sigma adapter (24mm) you get all the 6K modes both in manual mode and in autofocus mode - and yes, you do get autofocus operation. On the Canon 10-18mm efs lens on the same Sigma adapter - no dice in manual or autofocus mode. It has a switch on the lens to turn on/off stabilization - there is no combination to kick in the 6K. The shame is the Sigma 10-18mm lens, I enjoy that lens a lot, mainly because of size - can just use the LUMIX 18mm. Thanks for the heads up, I'll make a video on it myself :)
wondering how your lightmeter readings on your actors have any anything to do with the lens aperture of your camera. Also pretend you dont have a monitor. But if your contrast ratio between light and shadow on your actor's face is f2.8 and f8 (3:1), but you are using an f1.4 for your lens for stylistic choices like shallow depth of field, then how do you proceed to attain perfect exposure? Are exposure values on the light meter in any way related to lens choice ? Thank you.
Most of my EF apsc lenses will not go to full frame with the viltrox adapter. It does work with the Canon EF 24mm lens. I would love to do it with anything under 14mm apsc. Any suggestions for L mount or EF that would work with AF and costs under $400 new or used?
I use the Panasonic S5 now but this makes me want to get the S5II. It sounded like your audio was breaking up when you turned away from the camera. Do you record internally on the transmitter too?
Large conferences, events or trade shows are a nightmare for radio transmitters due to all the signals competing for the available spectrum. Be sure to always use mics with internal local recording in such scenarios.
All is great but you have to understand that this 6K is upscaled in camera :) and is probably close to 4K quality at best. 24mp sensor in s35 is around 4K and a little pixels so 6K... no.
For sure it's probably no different than scaling it in post on a 6k timeline, but if you were to do the e stabilization on high at S35 it would crop in basically 2x on the sensor. Whereas with this method you're getting the whole S35 frame with high stabilization. So still think it's better
Sorry i don't understand. But can someone please explain me what here is the big deal that we are celebrating - using s35 lenses on ff with great stabilization?
One of the thing I dislike about the S5II is the IBIS in Open Gate (and to a lesser extend 5,9K/6K), much worse than in 4K, big impact when walking with the camera. Of course reviewers never speak about it ... The new firmware seems to helps with the E-stab, but it also adds a crop, so we can't speak about Open Gate anymore when this option is enabled. Still, Open Gate mode has better video quality than 4K or C4K, so I suppose even with a slight crop, it will be still superior to 4K.
If I understand correctly the High E-Stabilization can potentially use the whole sensor area, but the recording is still 4k 16:9 right? Is there also a 3:2 cropped 50p recording mode that works with that feature?
No the high e stabilization never uses the whole sensor because it crops in 1.5ish times. But it gives you the option to now use a S35 lens in 6k open gate and get 3:2 6k files. But it's most likely just scaling the S35 image to 6k.
This may not work with APS-C Sigma lenses. I will test to see in the deep dive video

The best NAB 2024 video I've seen.
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for your video. Sorry if my question is dumb but do we still need to purchase the paid firmware upgrade in order to shoot raw on the sII? Because I couldn't find where I can purchase it from, and wondered how much it would be!
That's a good question actually. I'm assuming yes, but I'm not sure where to purchase either. Sorry I'm no help
If I ever need a ride I'll let you know👍
I wanna know how many calories you burned at NAB since you did most of it jogging 🤣 Great vid mate!
Not enough that's for sure. More running in more videos 100%. Thanks for watching! 🙏
This firmware should go great with the upcoming 7artisans Sprite Cine Zoom!
Should be great!
I have the the Sigma 10-18mm L and I don't know the right settings to do it, please enlighten me if it is possible!
Nope, won't do it. Shame, I can do it on the Sony E1 as it won't crop to apsc but the high image stabilization will take it to a good crop eliminating the vignette like you showed on this video.
May only work on manual lenses. Haven't tried with sigma APS-C settings
Yeah never had a problem. Just recording to the camera but I think all the signals were making it break up
Large conferences, events or trade shows are a nightmare for radio transmitters due to all the signals competing for the available spectrum. Be sure to always use mics with internal local recording in such scenarios.
You need to talk about mucho more indepth about this finding, sounds really interesting mate!
It'll be in the deep dive video
Would be nice if they support 3rd party lenses in L-mount. This laowa 10mm F2.8 with AF would be sick with this IBIS.
Technically they do, but I agree. Weird that the 10mm laowa doesn't have AF in l mount but the rest do. I think it'll come in the future though
Love the blazar footage 👍🏻
Those are pretty sweet
Dude, you’re a G! Subbed.
You are a legend and a scholar🙏
This subway surfers music got me 😃
Does it sound like subway surfers? Lmao
Can you do a new firmware 3.0 AF deepdive?
Yes planning on doing a deep dive in to the entire update
Man…that stabilization makes me want to switch.
Just wait until I post the video tomorrow🤫
What frame rate were you running with? 24p?
24 yes
@@DustinArmstrongPro super smooth for 24p - can’t wait to get this on my s5iix!! Wonder how it will go with my Meike ff primes…
Which lens are you using during your hallway run? Lumix 14-28?
7artisan 9mm. Working on a video review
us mark1 owners are long forgotten..😢
Nice hack man! Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate you watching
Welcome in the lumix era
Been that way for me for awhile
Loving the video, just wish I knew what Super 35 is
It's similar to APS-C. It's the size of the sensor or how much it zooms in on a sensor
Hahaha bro I wish I saw you randomly running around NAB lol
I was getting a lot of looks lmao
i was too out of breath from the intro to finish the video. I'll have to come back later.
Lmao
Sorry i don't understand. But can someone please explain me what here is the big deal that we are celebrating - using s35 lenses on ff with great stabilization?
RIP Gimbal!
