We shouldn't be closing these power stations.

I know. When the wind isn't blowing were heavily reliant on the French & imported gas. A very precarious position to be in.

Yes I'm aware most of the coal came from Poland & Australia. I'm not suggesting we fire them all up, I'm saying some should be retained in working condition to cope with problems or peak winter demand.
Coal more expensive than gas with current prices? I'm not sure where you heard that one? Wave power, what percentage of the electricity generated is tidal?
Well let's hope your utopian dream of wind and solar can keep the lights on during a dull calm winters day.

I'll look into the coal cost myself as I seriously doubt it's more expensive than gas, particularly in 2022. So tidal power accounts for bugger all then?
You missed out the part where we're reliant on the French & Norwegians to prop up our electricity grid.
I don't dismiss wind power in this part of the continent, you just need a viable alternative for dull, calm days, which currently we don't have.

I don't share your rose-tinted veiw of our renewable future. Next you'll be proclaiming that electric cars are the magic salve the media portray them as. Sometimes wind powers 2/3rds of the country sometimes it powers nothing. Plan? There's no plan, moreover a 'it'll be alright on the night strategy'. The vast majority of the electricity comes from France & Norway, a small ammount may flow the other way at the dead of night, when there's a surplus of wind, and unlike your coal claim, I'd encourage you to look into that if you don't believe me.
I'm still waiting for you to expand on your tidal power claim.

I worked in that control room for 14 years. Each shift had different coloured lockers. A shift red, B shift white, C shift green, D shift blue and E shift yellow. It meant people weren’t right next to each other when getting changed. Which was good news after a night shift curry.

20:32 the instem boxes are 1970s/80s industrial control computers phased out in the mid 90s. DEC PDP/11 clones but they ran their own OS developed by CEGB and programs in a custom language called CUTLASS. My dad worked there in CEGB/early Powergen days and I was fascinated by all the blinking lights.
