My teenage sons have struggled with this and I went through every avenue I knew and to no avail nothing came from it. I called a professional counselor who charged around $100/hr. I'm a single mom, there's no way I could afford that for both of my boys. Called a ministry about pornography struggle. The actual person who started the ministry just sent me some links that's it. So I called my pastor. He met with my son once and gave him a book that was it. So I called the youth pastor that my boys know. He spoke to my son a couple of times than was done. So now I no longer wonder why it's such a huge problem for so many for so long. You can't get the help you need no matter how hard you try.
While not a Christian source if he is serious about stopping there is a Reddit channel called "/nofap" it's a group of supportive people all trying to quit. Edit: autocorrect misled my original comment.
@@StandardsandPractices I did go the christian route. It was the professional I was referred to but charged a lot and was way on the other side of town from me.
I was a bit bothered when Jim Daly made the comment negatively about him admitting his addiction and staying on as pastor. It seems that his feelings are, that only perfect people can lead in ministery. This is the culture that has kept people in their masks and churches not being open about everyones struggles.
I couldn't agree more with you sense of it, as it was mine as well. A leader being vulnerable and demonstrating his own vulnerability to sin, is how you gain the lost, not through shaming or punishing them. The later should only be used if that leader refuses help.
fivelightsonahill. A couple of suggestions. Contact Focus on the Family, explain your situation and what is going on with your son, and ask if they can direct you somewhere to get help because it's out of the question financially for you to pay. Second -- should have been first. Ask Jesus, if you have a relationship with Him, to direct you on getting the help that you need. Pour out your heart to Him about everything you are thinking and feeling -- including any anger or fear or resentment or frustration or whatever is going on inside of you. He can handle it all and won't be mad at you for thinking and feeling what you do. He is an ever present help in time of need. I've been there sooooo many times myself.
Thank you. I did that. I was directed to the pastor, a leader of a pornography ministry and the youth leader at church. Sometimes you can be obedient but the people may not be. I am praying. I don't remember if I contacted focus on the family or not but will.
