March 1, 1932 The linberg baby was kidnapped. On February 13, 1935, Bruno Richard Hauptmann was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death of the Lindbergh baby. Hauptmann was electrocuted on April 3, 1936 at the New Jersey State Prison.
This case has been a big deal my whole life. Even though I was born 50 years later.
On March 1, 1932, the 20-month-old baby was abducted from his crib in the upper floor of his home in East Amwell, New Jersey. A wooden ladder, chisel, and the first of several ransom notes were found at the house.
On May 12, 1932, the baby's body was found by a truck driver near Mount Rose, New Jersey. The body was badly decomposed, partly buried, and had been dead for about two months. An autopsy showed that the baby had been killed by a blow to the head.
The Lindberghs fled to Europe in December 1935 due to threats against their son's life and the sensational nature of the trial. The Lindbergh kidnapping led to the passage of the Federal Kidnapping Act, also known as the Lindbergh Law, which made kidnapping a federal offense.
Movies about real cases should have to be accurate and factual. There was never any evidence to show that the baby boys death was an accident. The child had been buried and was decomposed. The child's body was found two months after he had been taken and the coroner said the child had been dead for two months.
