It has a list of who should not eat keto, but I have some thoughts to add that might make this article look foolish. You might be surprised at just how many people can eat Keto!

I mentioned in a previous comment. How when I was in my early t20's, I got drunk, and then went to A&W and had 4 hamburger platters. If I did that now, I would end up in the hospital. @melisand8295 2 года назад

@@vicki7807 chronic kidney disease has a cause, or several causes. You'll need to dive into the research rabbit hole on this one but reasonably, reversing causes improves function. For example, CKD can be caused by high blood pressure. You'll lose weight on keto, potentially reducing your blood pressure which allows the filtering function of the kidneys to work properly. Same with diabetes or pre- diabetes. High blood sugars mean you have a lot of sugar molecules rolling around in your blood. They are quite big and damaging to the very tiny capillaries in your kidneys and eyes (think diabetic blindness). So by working on causes and not just taking a drug to, say, reduce your BP, you are addressing the problem. Not just slapping a band-aid on! Good luck with all of that😄

On Friday, Feb 4 2022, I had dinner with some friends, one of which is a nutritionist. She said, and I quote, "There are certain people who should never do keto, the first being anyone with diabetes. I would never recommend keto to someone with diabetes." She also told me there have been zero long-term studies that have looked at the long term affects of keto, and she said nobody should remain in ketosis for the rest of their lives. I asked about what people ate tens of thousands of years ago, and she said it's only been the last several hundred years that people have eaten primarily meat. I wanted to ask her to explain what "hunter gatherers" were, but I dropped it. I wasn't changing her mind.

I know she was wrong, I did keto once long ago for many years and was very healthy. I got lazy for a few years and things got bad again. I have been back on keto for a year now, just had blood work done, everything looks amazing. Oh, that reminds, me, she said the only way to raise HDL is exercise. Hm, funny, mine went from 41 last year to 62 this year. :) Triglycerides over the last 4 years from over 200, 162 a couple of years ago, 101 last year, and 72 this year.

Five years keto. 2017 diagnosis Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. Kidney clinic told me to read Gary Taubes' book, "why we get fat and what to do about it," and to follow the food plan in the appendix. Later I learned the food plan was the ketogenic way of eating. I went from Stage 3 (GFR 55) to almost out of Stage 1 (GFR 86). I'll never return to the SAD diet. Feel so much better. BMI from 25.2 to 21.6. I feel healthy and strong, and I'm in my 70s. (My M.D. told me CKD is irreversible, but the kidney clinic said they have diabetics reducing and coming off meds and insulin.) Second opinion changed (possibly saved) my life. The extent of being able to 'reverse' your DT2 depends largely on percentage of dead / 'burned out' beta cells in your pancreas. We have more than we need, but if a great enough percentage have died, you will never reverse sufficiently to achieve truly healthy BG levels around 4.5 to 5.0. But, if you are able to get A1c down to 7.0, or even 6.5, many docs will say you are 'cured', which is BS. If you return to eating as before, A1c will go back up. There is no way to revive dead beta cells, nor generate new ones, but maybe someday there will be. Meanwhile, the best we can do is eat LCHF, and fast if able. I am on 5th year of OMAD / IF, eating Keto, Ketovore, and carnivore. My A1c ranges 5.2 to 5.5., but I'd love to get it down to 5.0 or less, but it just ain't gonna happen, c I ate too much junk for too long.

When I started keto 3.5 years ago I was almost 350 lbs. I had an A1C of 10.7 and had to drink massive amounts of caffeine to barely function at work. After a month I lost ten lbs, had much higher levels of energy with much less caffeine and I no longer felt the need to snack. After a few more weeks I wasn’t hungry for breakfast anymore and sometimes I skipped lunch without being hungry. After 3 months I had lost 30 lbs and the need for insulin shots. Over the course of a year I lost 70 lbs and all my T2 diabetes medications. My wife started at the same time that I did and with similar results. At age 44 we had a keto pregnancy and a healthy baby girl! We both have as much or more energy than we did in our 20’s in our mid 40’s. Because of all the weight loss when my back pain had still not resolved it ultimately lead to a diagnosis of neuroendocrine cancer. After surgery and radiation this past year I still have felt even better without a tumor in my spinal column. I honestly have more strength and energy today as a 45 year old man with Stage 4 grade 2 neuroendocrine tumors in several places in my body than I did in all of my 30’s. 1. Most of our ancestors did enjoy some carbs (berries, tubers, etc.) for part of each year, so it's hard to call it a 2 year prolonged study of keto as this metabolic state was not maintained strictly. It would be more like a paleo/hypercarnivore study.
      2. A proper study would also include measurements of thriving and longevity contrasted with a control group. The fact that they made babies isn't enough.
Again, I'm not casting any shade on keto; it saved my life! I just can't quite count our ancestors as a million year keto study.

@@pondboy3682 yes they may have had some berries and fruit but we have no idea what the carb count was on those. We do know it would have been nothing like todays fruit. Some wild fruit that we still have today isn’t enjoyable at all. They would have only had access to them for a short time (days not weeks) Wild fruit doesn’t last to long once ripe. Also ripe fruit attracts prey animals which in turn would attract carnivores so not the best area to hang out. Much easier to stick to the waters edge and eat crustaceans and shellfish. As fat adapted as they would have been. A few sour berries or fruit would not have kicked them out of ketosis for long. Probably a few hours max. I’m leaving out the tubers. Just cause I’m not so sure I believe early man ate any. Think about it. What would prompt them to dig below the soil and eat a root but if they did again for all we know they could have been radishes. So while it may not be the best study supporting keto it’s a damn good one.

All I have to do is look at how vegans deteriorate rapidly once they begin eating strict vegan to know that it's probably the worst human diet on the planet aside from the average American diet. I had a fatty liver in my 40's when I was eating the usual Special K in 2% milk for two meals per day and a regular supper, had a sugar addiction and was almost 50# overweight; that was before they discovered my thyroid had gone rogue. Now, I do not have a fatty liver and I have lost all my excess weight. I have been hypothyroid for over 20 years and on Synthroid and haven't had a gallbladder for almost that long. I have more lean muscle mass than I did in my 30's. I am a 65 year old woman, broke my leg badly in a tree cutting accident four months ago and didn't even need physical therapy because I was in good shape prior to that and went back to exercise within about two to three weeks. I eat mostly keto, do a lot of IF every week, eat generally two meals per day. The hypothyroidism is my only health issue at my age, but that isn't diet-caused, of course. Oh Dr Berry, You are such a great educator !! Your personality and knowledge keeps us eager to keep learning from you. I had the experience of a personal Diabetes Dietitian. The diet she put me on after I had already started a low carb diet to reduce my A1C and was working. She said a German Doctor or Professor had created the diet. I stopped doing low carb and did her recommended diet. Wow !! My A1C increased greatly !! The diet consisted of 2 Rye Crispbread 3 times a day. I am intelligent so I told my Doctor that I didn't want to continue with the health plan involving that Dietitian. Keto and low carb is fantastic. May not be any true studies on the diet but just speak to people that have been doing it for many, many years. Thank you Doctor Berry for these videos and helping so many people with education.

After I tried the amazing fasting, I lost a lot of weight and now 165lbs for 5’8” hieght. Everything back to normal health my triglycerides 350 went to 140, my bP from 160/110 went to 115/70 even I eat too many fats and red meat, my glucose went from 160-75. It's not that keto is free, cause you have to buy a lot of produce. It's because everyone will get healthier and no one will need to buy pills. It's all about making people sick, keeping them sick but managing their symptoms. Instead of attacking and correcting the root cause they treat the symptoms. Week after week I would realise something about my health was better. It is like becoming a winner in slow motion. I'm beginning to actually feel athletic. Dr Berry, I just wanted to provide information regarding my unbelievable body changes I made on keto. I began my keto journey on September 22. At that time I had blood work done and it was revealed I was diabetic with an A1C of 7.7 and a fasting glucose of 130. I had early stages of fatty liver and obviously overweight. Doctor wanted me to start taking metformin. However, I refused stating I wanted to try diet as medicine instead of pills.. I began following your sessions and was strict on the keto diet. I suffered the keto flu and once it was gone I began seeing the weight, inflammation and just feeling horrible go away. Energy up as well. THREE months later I had bloodwork done again and my doctor was astonished at the results. My A1C is now 5, my glucose fasting was 88, fatty liver enzymes are normal and I’ve lost 40 lbs. keto works great for me! I do not feel deprived and I’ve made food that taste just as good or better than what I was eating. Thank you for your videos and all the information you provide. Sincerely, Ken McHughes.

I started keto back in July of 2021. I was at 245lbs, insulant resistant, and couldn’t get my weight or appetite under control. First 2 weeks or so were hellish. The withdrawls were not fun but i’m sure diabetes is worse. My goal was to lose a few lbs (get to about 220 lbs) so i could fit in some clothes that were slightly smaller. I ended up overshooting that and am now at 195lbs and now I overshot the clothes again so i need to look into smaller clothes now. The biggest downside to keto is having to get a new wardrobe but i guess i’ll take that over needing bigger clothes.
