      @@Icewing10 For me Maria its all about my mindset when I start you have to be right in your headspace BEFORE starting a new eating regime....First thing I do is stop eating after dinner thats where I have trouble eating watching TV before bed...With these sort of plans if you can make it to the end of week two usually you are good to go because your cravings seem to disappear just make sure to eat if you ever feel hungry dont starve yourself.

      @@shadowbanned5164 Thank you! I started eating more meat. I am a snacker too, love love to snack on chips of all kinds instead of eating. Eating more meat has stopped me from going into the snack closet at work. I am still apprehensive with this diet. I have been brainwashed to think I will die of a heart attack from the meat or the fat.

      @@Icewing10 Eating (snacks) is important the secret is to latch onto a snack that fits in with your plan but thats not something you would normally desire and you can have as many of as you like pretty much...With me I always had a few boiled eggs in the fridge or celery/carrot sticks which I would have with cottage cheese....Not something I would usually eat but they would fill a gap and more importantly fool my brain into thinking I had just had something I wasn't allowed lol

    3 of his 7 are all varieties of a single species, which is all of the cruciferous veggies (Arugula, Bok choy, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, & Collard greens) are a single species that is a biennial crop, meaning if you harvest the top (stems & leaves above the crown) before winter, then keep the roots from freezing by protecting them beneath a pile of dry insulating leaves, the roots can sprout new plants again in the spring, though they might look like one of the other varieties of cruciferous veggies than the one you planted. All of these cruciferous veggies can also be preserved without refrigerator space by putting them in a shallow layer of water in a dish on a windowsill (south facing in N. hemisphere is best) after you buy them from the store and trim a sliver of the dried stem off of the bottom of the head of the cruciferous plant you purchased. As long as you change the water every couple of days so it stays clean and make sure that the bottom of the crown doesn't dry out, and the leaves are not immersed in the water, the plant will soon grow new roots from the bottom of the crown, and the leaves will get even greener and healthier than when you bought the plant. Then you can break off only the leaves you are ready to eat at each meal, and the rest of the plant will keep growing on your windowsill, and will keep making new baby leaves at the center from the diet of sunlight it gets. I've harvested about a head and a half of leaves from a head of cabbage or bok choy stretched out over a month or two without refrigerating it, and ended up with a sturdy set of roots that I can then plant in a garden to get a second harvest from the plant. All from an ordinary head of cabbage bought at any store, though you have to peel away all the damaged leaves (and cook and eat them) before you try to grow the head hydroponically on your windowsill.

      Dr Berry, you once mentioned that you had had GERD really bad. I was wondering if the fact that you seem to have to swallow a lot now like you're needing to clear your throat has anything to do with that.? Not trying to be rude at all here but it's pretty obvious that something is going on. I just wondered if that is a carryover from the condition you had once.
      But it's something I have noticed in most of your videos, that you seem to have to swallow a lot, almost like something is in your throat?

      There is no such thing as "high cholesterol fats". We have been lied to for decades about so much. Cholesterol is not the enemy, neither is saturated fat. We die without cholesterol, it is in every cell especially the brain. I highly recommend you look into the Cholesterol Myth, you will find out that ALL of the crap we've been told is based on zero good science. I really like the books by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, Statin Nation is a great place to start. The epidemics of obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes are all connected, and carbs and sugar are the cause. The history of how cholesterol and saturated fats became demonized while massive amounts of carbs became the official recommended diet for western countries is insane.

    • @widehotep9257
      @widehotep9257 3 года назад +3

      We've all been duped for decades. I remember hearing nutritionists saying you should never fast or let yourself get hungry, because doing so makes your body "hold on" to fat so you can't lose weight. What a bunch of nonsense!

    • @elizabethwhite1068
      @elizabethwhite1068 3 года назад +1

      @@widehotep9257 Yep, I remember that as well. We also used to know that too many carbs made us fat. Semi-starvation diets destroy your metabolism so that your body needs less to function, making it so easy to regain the weight and then some, becoming a vicious cycle. Hello obesity epidemic. If you look at the history of the whole "cholesterol" will kill us, you find that Ancel Keys, the scientist who came up with this garbage, even said himself in the early '50's that dietary cholesterol does nothing to raise blood cholesterol. Yet by the late '80's and '90's the public had been put in a panic over eggs, and was throwing away the most nutritious thing we could eat. How the hell did that happen? Then the AHA finally removes their awful advice on eggs, but does it so quietly people are still throwing away yolks. Low salt is a lie, "5 a day" is nothing but a marketing slogan based on zero science, so-called "vegetable" oils are toxic to humans, and 3500 calories equals a pound is a lie. The damage done is a crime against humanity.

    One thing I love to make to take the place of salad dressing is Greek tziki sauce by chopping up garlic and cucumber and mix it in with whole, plain, Greek yogurt. Sometimes I also make my own mayo with eggs and olive oil then add the garlic and cucumber to that also and it's an excellent replacement for processed salad dressing. They're good on both veggies and meats.

      Whoever told you that is absolutely wrong. Keto is a high fat, moderate protein, low net carbs. Net carb being the most important aspect. That means you subtract the fiber content from the total carbs to find the net carbs. It’s easy to find these numbers on line but if you stay away from starchy sugary vegetables and nightshades you will be fine. Vegetables provide us with essential nutrients and minerals. You should avoid root vegetables like , potatoes and carrots because they have a high starch and sugar content but you should eat plenty of leafy greens and cooked cruciferous vegetables.

      Dean Ticks - Your weight and diabetes are controlled by BOTH "fasting and feasting". You should look to INTERMITTANT FASTING diet (see 16:8 - fast 16hrs feast 8hrs). Basically you both eat per day (once or twice) and push your body to fast also per day (typically by counting 16hrs from previous nites meal). Trust me it works like a charm - you will not feel hungry (after 1st three days) but by 4th day your body adjusts and suddenly you have a no hunger which (no distraction at all). Two advantages - weightless and reduction of insulin production (HB1AC) - your body literally resets and diabetes WILL reverse (not need managing) after weight loss. It worked for me and has for many - see vids by Jason Fung as introduction.

    I have always liked brussels sprouts and asparagus. I found an AMAZING recipe for oven roasted brussel sprouts and asparagus that includes olive oil. It is soooo good that when my hubby smells them cooking, he gets a plate and stands by the stove WAITING for me to take them out of the oven.

This has really opened up my window of opportunity to eat better and I am a real carnivore (LOL) I love some type of dead anima! I've been overweight most of my life and hooked on Carbohydrates so getting off of them will be a real challenge but I am totally tired of being fat and having sore joints. Hi Dr. Berry -- Don't forget that avocados or guacamole can also be frozen to save money. Just buy a bunch when they're cheaper, cut in half, take the pit out and the peel off. What I do is then rub a little lemon juice on the halves to keep them from browning, then vacuu-pack them before sticking them in the freezer. It helps me have affordable avocado year round. If you don't have a vacuu-pack machine just use a freezer bag and get as much air out as you can before freezing. Bargain tubs of premade guacamole (check the label to make sure it's all real avocados, no gums or fillers) can also just be frozen.

      Yep! Agree use tons of avocados in our kitchen, tons of greens also. Why did Dr. Berry leave out greens? He mentions kale but not spinach, arugula, Swiss chard, raw beets and beet greens, lettuces, parsley, mint, (many other herbs/greens), chilies and tomato free, , sweetener free hot sauces? OK he’s only referring to,fresh organic veggies here. Bacon fat is great but olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, are super for Keto weight loss, maintenance healthy diets. Also Siete brand grain free (cassava) chips & tortillas at Whole Foods.

    Cabbage makes an excellent hamburger wrap. Just rinse the leaves a bit to get any sand off of them, shake the extra water off (not all of it), and stick them in the toaster oven for a couple of minutes to soften them up just enough that they won't crack.
    A lot of people do lettuce wraps, but cabbage is sturdier and tastier, IMO.
    It's also excellent boiled: cook some garlic and onion in bacon grease (or your fat of choice. Heck, cut up some bacon and throw it in there), deglaze with a bit of apple cider vinegar, put in your cabbage and seasoning (I like salt, pepper, and ground cumin), fill with enough water to reach most of the way up the cabbage (cooking for myself, this is usually a cup), cover and cook for about 12 minutes. Pour that in your bowl and top it with cheese. Drink the pot liqueur!
    And if you decide to grow cucumbers, get a pot big enough to can in and make some pickles! I make a brine with a good portion of ACV and pack the pickles with dill and a couple garlic cloves. Great to put on those burgers wrapped in cabbage.

      I’m going to try the olive bar at Whole Foods. I haven’t liked olives my whole life but I want them for health. Maybe a different type will suit me. 🤞

    Brussels Sprouts in tons of butter and garlic until almost mush. Use a sauce pan with lid on low for as long as you can wait. Also broiled, halved, basted in butter and salt.

    I've always craved every food on this list. As a kid, I'd make a salad of just bacon bits, ranch, and olives. I love kale & raw nuts. I crave "pot liquor". I think I just realized that I'm just built for keto.

    I just Love olives myself. All kinds, and I could just gorge myself on them all day. I would have added spinach to this list; extremely versatile and palatable! Healthy too. 😊♥️

      Super high in oxalates, and not the superfood we have been told. Sad, as I liked it too.

    Going literally to the store now! Gonna pile up on veggies, which I love raw, but will cook in bacon grease! Yummy! 😋

    The caveat you wrote in the description is really interesting, and i'm finding for me personally there's a lot of truth to the ancestral/dna thing with relation to what we should eat. But that's a very tricky situation when you're a very mixed race person, like me - Celtic Caucasian with African/South Asian/South American/Oceania. I have tried and failed with carnivore twice, it simply doesn't make me feel good after a while, makes me feel very 'heavy' and I really started to crave low carb plants and nuts. When I go back to upping the low carb veg I feel so much better and my body seems to respond better. I don't seem to have any issue with low carb veg or nuts. Thus I find I have to lighten the load with meat and have more of a plant centric keto diet. It's trial and error big time for highly mixed races. So, for anyone who may be in a similar boat, this is something to consider. And thank you for providing this info Dr Berry!

      This is true, we all have to do trials and errors to see what best works for ourselves. I'm 94.8%african dna (nomads) and still have to have some veggies and nuts.

      Omg yes me too! I'm Polynesian/Japanese/Roma ("Gypsy") and so I've always needed more salt than the average American, because both my Polynesian and Japanese ancestors had lots of salty seafood in their diets. But there's such a push for low-salt foods here, I never knew that until I began to experiment with how food makes me FEEL. Whereas a friend of mine, whose ancestors lived far from the sea, thrives on a much lower-salt diet than I do.
      I think there's never going to be one way of eating that's right for everyone, because we each have different inherited physiology. . .

    Thanks! I’m doing intermittent fasting and at about week two I dropped the carbs. The weight is melting off! I’m still learning so I appreciate your videos.
