- If you’ve been around watches long enough, you’ll be familiar with the term “finishing”. That’s where you’ve made the thing, but you just want to give it a last little touch up to make it look nice, and in the case of watchmaking, it’s one of the hardest parts to master. And if you’re going to master it, may as well do it properly, as Jochen Benzinger of Benzinger watches has demonstrated not once, but twice with the Subscription IV Silver Blue.

The whole team of Watchfinder & Co. and the Hand Man are in critical condition and have been admited to the hospital this morning due the severe back pain caused by carrying the entire watchfan community along this 2020. Thank you.
😂😂😂 Thank you for watching!
False. They are fine and doing their job.
i realize it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Jayceon Nikolas Meh I'd suggest flixportal. Just google after it:D -gunner
@Gunner Kayden Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!!
Watching this, it occurs to me that I've never seen a quality breakdown of hand styles, where they come from and why certain ones are chosen for certain watches/dials. I feel like that would be right up this channel's alley.
It's such a huge consideration when choosing a watch. I'll love an entire watch but hate the hands, and end up moving on.
@@sundaynightdrunk story of my life. So many beautiful watches passed by simply because the hands were awful.
agreed. And it's the reason why I could never own a Sub!
Guys, also the guys in the comments. You do realize that JB in Pforzheim does customize watches too, don't you? So whatever hands you want, let J. Benzinger know.
This watch falls into the category of; things I have no desire for, but appreciate on every level.
Well put. Agree! 👍
I'd take it in a second! Beauty, form, function, craftsmanship unparalleled...no desire? ...
yes, well you probably wouldn't be able to afford it so your opinion either way means absolute shite.
@@alcapone8193 why such a prick??
@@alcapone8193 it isn't that expensive
I normally can't stand the "hit like and subscribe" begging that precedes nearly every RUclips video these days, but by Jove this channel has absolutely the nicest and most charming way of putting forth the request. By the 1 minute mark when this has been said...
"A big thank you to every single person who watches and enjoys these videos it really means a huge amount to us, and to me personally i wouldn't be here doing this without you. If you do like the videos your subscription would be hugely appreciated. It helps more than you can know. Thank you".
... I am ready to follow the narrator into any battle. No bombast, no pomposity, attributes rife in today's social media. Instead we get class with humility and yet sophistication with a large dash of humor. Exactly the kind of content I want to watch!
It's by far my favorite channel by all means.
Buddy their entire living depends on you specifically subscribing you're really gonna fucking blame them because it's slightly annoying?
This channel is so underrated...the information, cinematography, presenter...any one of those would be great on their own, but combining them is just art. Why does this channel have less than a million subscribers?
Not enough people are watch enthusiasts.
Probably because they’re a shop owned by the Richemont group
@@ARMYRIFLES46 Fair enough, but I will never be able to afford their watches and I'm enjoying their content...I think that's worth something
@@thatotherguy4245 i agree the narration and cinematography is outstanding however i question their love of A lange & Söhne when they are part of the same company.
@@ARMYRIFLES46 Watchfinder has a clear bias towards brands they sell (or are part of Richemont), so I agree...but still, educating people (like me) about watchmaking is a pretty unnecessary step for them. I bet that at some point someone at Richemont said "Why are we spending x euros on RUclips that we could be using as bonuses for salespeople to actually make money"
The fact that he can produce 100 watches per year is just as stunning as his artistry.
I swore this watch had to be at least $25k. A lot of watch for the money at $11.5k. Rhodium plated & amazing details; You really wonder how much advertising affects pricing for well known watchmakers.
I was thinking 30k+. I was thinking "not for me. I will stick to the 5-10k range." And here we go.
God considering an awful Hublot can cost nearly as much that is quite a steal.
How much guilloché do you want?
Benzinger: Yes.
Thanks for the spelling, I couldn't figure it out especially bcoz of the auto-generated captions
@@sushimshah2896 here's another hint: because. Dictionaries and spelling checking software are generally useful devices for such endeavors.
Actually the quality is not that great when you look very closely
@@machtschnell7452 hehe, yeah u r right.
I too mostly spell out every word, bar a few (like I did above). But since I use glide/swipe-typing, I can't use predictions (I meant word completion & not predicting the next word) & have to resort to swiping across all the letters, so I shorten some words where possible.
@@yappering For the money, it is. Although the use of chemically blued screws rather than heat blued is frankly wrong.
At just 10 minutes, this video is criminally short. I could have looked at this watch for another 5 minutes. All those details, damn.
The Silver Blue is one of the most beautiful watches I’ve seen. The engine turning is amazing.
The interior of this otherwise gorgeous timepiece reminds me of "Macarthur Park"....someone left the cake out in the rain.
The decoration had also a practical reason, the ribbons collect dust and tiny fragments so it does not get between the wheels
Wow, this episode is up there with some of the great videos from your past. Thank you for all your teams hard work and phenomenal narrating!
That is probably one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen.
I fully agree, and my jaw dropped to see they all sell for under 10 thousand pound.
Finishing is hugely underestimated these days, judging by the growing number of Rolex owners.
I may be wrong but there are more people who can afford a 10k watch than people who can affford an A Lang and Shöne and therefore a well finished watch
@@NicoN00B I think most Grand Seikos are finished wonderfully, Way better than Rolex IMO and perhaps even more affordable. So no point sacrificing real workmanship and quality for hype just because it is more affordable when in reality, it could even be a bit cheaper
@@tonyjo9740 I didn’t think about it this way, you are right !
Rolex watches have perfectly fine finishing. I think you mean decoration, which is a part of overall design and is optional.

I can't thank you enough for presenting us with this beautiful guillochage work!
Thank you so much for your details and your style! I've been subscribed forever. You've helped me find my best grail watches 😊
As usual, very well presented and very well thought out. Your videos are always worth the time to watch as I always learn something knew that is worth knowing, thank you.
Thank you very much for all the amazing videos. Happy new year
Thank You Watchfinder team, I have learned so very much from your videos!
Happy New Year to you! Thanks for making such beautiful videos throughout the year!
That is an amazing looking watch! Thanks for showing it off.
this has to be my favourite watch, its just simple yet complex its perfect
Kind of obsessed with pure art, especially if it's in a mechanical wrist watch form. So lovely ❤️
Love these macro shots and this video content! My Cartier Tank Francaise has a gorgeous guilloche dial.
I love all your videos but this one was perfect. The information. The history. The beauty of the piece. Well done.
I particularly like your videos that actually show watchmakers at work. Someone doing guilloché would be fascinating. I like sausages, but sometimes it is even better to see how the sausage is made.
great episode and very informative. You could also highlight other types of finishing and why they are used. E.g. Striping, beveling/anglage, blued screws, mirror.polishing, perlage etc.
This is a stunning piece wish I could own it.
There is art of watches and there is art of story telling. Somehow both of these arts are being nurtured and passed on to a new audience through this channel. Someone needs to tell watchmakers how big a contribution this channel is making to their field
Speechless to the beauty of the works of this watch, thanks for the history of guillochetting 👌❤️👍
4K! finally the upgrade right on before the change of the year! nice~
Beautiful piece! Well shot and narrated as usual...
The best color for a watch so far is blue. Of course, that is subjective.
Blue is man’s favorite color to look at. Consider a woman wearing a red dress. It will promptly get attention, but that attention will pale in a short amount of time. Although when she’s wearing a blue dress, it will hold a man’s attention far longer & she will be much more approachable to that man. .
I saw this mentioned in a Discovery Channel program regarding man/woman relationships many years ago.
Deep blue colored dials are somewhat hypnotizing hahaha.
Damn right, I'm a sucker for blue dials!
my first fav color is yellow, second one is blue
i really love luxury watches 💝

Is that oxidisation on the seconds hand?
Yeah, looks like - and maybe on the hour hand too (in a shot a few moments later).
@ on a third watching, you may be correct there; however there's definitely a mark on the hour hand at 5:00
All watches get patina after a while. Some faster than others depending on the materials used
Guilloché craftsman: “ Oops!” And keep going.
I used a Breguet hand Guilloche machine at Basel World several years ago, what a hard job and what an amazing work of art as well.
Very interesting part about Chronoswiss. I have owned both a Tora Chronograph (and a Chronoscope) and figured Chronoswiss stamped the dial of the Tora, but didn't know they sub-contracted the Opus and Pathos (a watch I would love to own). The hands on the Tora were amazing Breguet style, really cool. Great video, thank you.
Now that is what I call a statement watch. Stunning, and to quote Alexei Sale in the Last Crusade " I even like the colour!"
The original all-instrumental title sequence was so beautiful - please bring it back!
Absolutely stunning!
Simply amazing. Keep up the great work!
As always, a beautiful piece! Can you do one on a Jaquet Droz watch? I've recently found out about the brand and saw some videos of those dials as well but they're not good enough if you don't do them! Happy New Year!
Your new welcome and thank you line sounds like a last call for help. I sincerely hope that Richemont is not closing the walls on this channel.
So, thank you, your channel really makes a difference, especially to me personally...
Finally! 1440P!!!!!!! Thank you Watchfinder!
By far the most beautiful watch i have seen till date, the workmanship is beyond words, its an insult to try to give it any nos,
Never been a huge fan of skeletonization personally and the application can sometimes appear gimmicky; however, the dial and movement of this watch is stunning as are the other models by this company. Great presentation of the history of this technique and incredibly beautiful work of this manufacturer.
Beautiful work - Roger Smith has uploaded videos of some of his engine turning, really shows the skill and finesse required - any chance of your doing a piece about his work?
Wow.. Thats is next level artistry
Stunningly made
Absolutely breath taking
Would love to see a video on the new cocktail time. They have beautiful machine turned guilochette dials
Amazing beautiful watch ! Deep blue guilloche. I loved the guilloche pattern before even I learned it is called guilloche. It is the guilloche that I true loved about Breguet and Chronswiss. But now seeing this video, it opened my eyes and thank you for your great video ! I will now looking one watch ? So is this available ? Such perfect !
Cracking production as always .At 7.01 there are several flaws if you look to the centre right of the screen and just beneath..
Great video what an exceptional timepiece
gorgeous watch
Thank you for the Video
Breguet are the masters of this. Some of their dials today are stunning.
Superb as ever, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
It's a good day when Watchfinder releases a new video. Love you guys. Hand finishing is the peak of artistic excellence
Or it’s either Wednesday or Friday 😉
Honestly, I've never noticed.
I just got back into building highly detailed models, I’ve always wanted to make a watch.
wonderful videos, thank you
One Vacheron Constantin Traditionalle manual wind with guilloché on the dial (the one with the small seconds) may be my favorite dial of all time. It's freaking amazing.
Well, that make two of us :)
Thank you for this statement; as a lover of all things Vacheron Constantin, I do greatly consider the entire Traditionnelle collection amongst them.
That watch is beautiful. Goodness
Absolutely love it!
I have a chromoswiss open gear ocean, hand guilloched.. 1 of 35 pieces. Went to the aetellier to see. I love it.
I very much enjoy your videos.
Please do a review on the Bovet Grand Récital 22.
Amazing! Incredible!
Please make a list of geneva seal watches and brands having most of them 🙏
Your videos are magnificent, the best to be found , the educational value is unsurpassed!
Would it be possible to produce a video on the German brand Tutima, it’s history and current creations .
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Watchfinder & Co., Wow! what a piece! Could you tell us more about Chroniswiss+Benzinger tie-up? Which Chroniswiss model? What was the level of Benzinger's involvement? Where can I find out more about this?
Interesting video and history 🙂 I must say though, the finishing on this particular watch under this close scrutiny isn’t as awe-inspiring as I expected. There seems to be marks and dust on much of it. Weird...
It's a pre-owned watch, which accounts for dust, rust and scratches. If I had to guess, my bet the owner dropped it in the pool. And it's worth only 10K brand new. No way they can afford perfect finishing with so much decoration.
@@smashexentertainment676 Grand Seiko manage it for 6k...
@@al-knows-nothing Grand Seiko is using economy of scale. You can't compare a basement company to a billion dollar corporation.
@@smashexentertainment676 Ah well I agree I certainly don’t compare the two as similar companies, and I take your point about the price, but my (only) point is that Grand Seiko manage to deliver a clean dial free from dust and with hand polished markers for less than many.
Heck...even my £60 Pulsar Beater is cleaner, for some weird reason?
@@al-knows-nothing I was magnifying my up to $2K watches and they look cleaner than Benzinger as well :D except for Russian Poljot. That one had a fingerprint on the inside of a sapphire crystal.
I can understand dust and rust from whatever abuse it been through, but finishing comes from the factory and it's horrible. Even to a naked eye. They should spend more time on leveling things up, or finish it properly and raise the price. Otherwise it's a watch that just looks cool from far away.
For what goes into these watches it is insane that they are priced so reasonably! But I still can see myself wearing one.
What a beautiful watch!
Great way to start the day :")
The best channel on youtube by far.
Well made videos, good presentation.
Interesting content
I subscribe😀👍
Even if i can´t affort the beautifull watches, nor have the lifestyle to need one
Another great video 👌🏻
Giauche is the watch equivalent of a King Crimson song in an odd meter. It keeps coming around but not how you expect, repetitive but still varying enough to hold your interest, probably too much but still compelling.
I gotta say, your camera man and his microscope like shots are amazing ! Another watch maker I’ve never heard of ……Benzinger. Who knew?
im definitely not a fan of the watch, but i have a pretty strong appreciation for it. does that make sense?
Can you show us some Chopard watches aswell? Would be amazing :D
The macro shots of this watch look amazing. But the first glimpse of the dial in full reminded me of Dolly Parton's quip that "it takes a lot of money to look this cheap" (I'm paraphrasing from memory). It takes a lot of work, and skill, to look that tacky.
thanks
Would you consider doing a video/videos on vintage watches? Like an Omega Pie Pan or something of the sort.
Please give review on Seiko SPB165J1..🙏🙏.. and suggest me best seiko presage watch please.
A video on foudroyantes would be very interesting
dang this is a super pretty watch
Thank you for introducing me to Benzinger. I've never been a skeleton watch guy or that enamoured with guilloche' but this watch looks stunning. Too bad I can't afford it.
A jeweled finish, like on a rifle bolt, can be stunning.
Fortunately technology has come so far along that we today can produce the same quality through use of CNC machining instead of traditionally pressed (stamped) faux dails.
Maurice Lacroix Aikon has a stamped dial. You can easily see the difference if you compare it to the pattern on an AP Royal oak.
Now OPHION OPH 786 uses a highly tuned CNC machine to create the dial and the visual difference is huge.
5:54
Wow!..Stunning work!..is this the same dude that Worked With/For Fabergé?
Crazy dial
Bloody amazing
how did this watch pass quality control, jesus.
Agreed... terrible
This.
So many imperfections.
Maybe we have become accustomed to much finer things due to this channel.
But honestly, I half expected an 'Earnshaw' logo on it.
@@lukedudgeon8699 That's exactly what I thought too. The Guilloche is perfect, but the hands and other parts have too many blemishes.
Considering he's managing a "pre own watches" company, i'm pretty sure this watch is not mint
A skill in high demand in Houston Texas!
My god that thing is gorgeous
Benzinger is a monster 😳
Idk about the title but one things for sure, most companies just dont like to think outside the box anymore. Just copy each other. This, of course, isn't all
Great thing about Grand Seiko, not only do they have a moment only they make (Spring Drive), the artistry of their dials are amazing.
Thats movement, not moment
