    Honestly, the MSI just needs a complete aesthetics overhaul. Get rid of the ugly keyboard font, take off the tacky stickers from Intel, get rid of all the gaming logos like 'SteelSeries' and we don't care what brand our Audio is, so why stick on the laptop.

      Yes.... it feels like someone in MSI who is not gamer and think gamers are nerds who live in their mom's basement said "Oh, this looks like what gamers like"...

    • @sdushdiu
      @sdushdiu 8 лет назад

      Yeah, don't they realize that gamers are sophisticated pubescents who care more for RGB enabled...well...Everything... who want clear cases with everything color and RGB coordinated components while simultaneously whining if it costs more than their mom will spring???? Ignorant bastards.... ;-)
      the shame here is that Razor is FINALLY introducing a 970 machine when they SHOULD be releasing a new 1070 machine!!!

      I don't know, overall I like the look of my GT62VR. Yes, some of the stickers might be a bit tacky, but nobody is stopping you from removing them (the ones you can remove).
      And I for one very much care about the audio, even on a laptop. Because of that, I am glad I chose MSI, as they have excellent laptop speaker systems, relatively speaking. Best ones I've ever heard, at least. I also like the MSI logo that lights up when the laptop is powered on. I could do without the stripes on either side of the logo though.

      He's saying Razer, If I'm interpreting it correctly, is the overpriced brand that provides solid performance but is still overpriced (tho not even as bad compared Apple's pricing of Macs). MSI as well ASUS offer much more bang for your buck with their products, like Samsung. For Razer your putting in the extra cash for the quality and branding of the name. Other competitors offer the same or even better/cheaper products for less $$$

    • @TheBadAssLookingGame
      @TheBadAssLookingGame 8 лет назад +3

      Liberty's Knight Lmao, Asus naw. They have good products with good quality but they are not cheap or the "bang for your buck". An asus g752 with a 1070 and all is $3000 when you can get the same for 2k or less with an MSI or Sager/Clevo

    • @padnfain

      Yeah I noticed that too. somewhat deceptive there and obvious with not pointing at the hottest spot. Also when looking at the razer from the top not looking at the whole thing.

    Awesome video. You really helped me make my choice. I really wanted to splurge on the Razer Blade for build quality, size and screen for productivity but I absolutely must have the SSD + 1TB. I know, I know, just carry an external drive but in my eyes every "thing" and a cord I have to carry makes it less portable...which also makes the sd card slot a bonus.

    You already cover this in your review but chiming in to show my vote/opinion. Given the size of the blade and it having thunderbolt 3, I'm OK with it having fewer port and display options.
    3 USB ports isn't enough for me in the first place in order to run VR, a mouse, and some USB speakers (logitech v20), which is my standard set up when demoing my games to people. Also a projector.
    So since I need a hub in most cases, I'm happy that thunderbolt 3 gives me more options than a standard USB hub. I can connect the projector, mouse, speakers, and ethernet if needed using one hub. I find this pretty cool....
    I guess this was a plug for thunderbolt 3 more than a pro of the blade.

    Hi Ms. Lisa! GREAT REVIEW! I LOVE WATCHING YOUR REVIEWS!
    Got 2 quick questions for you:
    1) You mentioned before IGZO screens tend to be cooler even AFTER calibration, is this true for the Razer Blade after calibration? So does that mean the MSI GS40 is much more color accurate even though it has a slightly lower color gamut for the sRGB and Adobe RGB?
    2) You mentioned about chargers, can I use the Razer Blade charger to charge the MSI GS40 without damaging the battery? If not, do you think you could recommend smaller/lighter 165W chargers that's compatible for the GS40?
    I would very much appreciate your response to my questions for I am in dire need of a new laptop, and these 2 are exactly what I am considering! So thank you for making a review to this! YOU ARE THE BEST!!

    @DanielRodriguez-fg5ll 8 лет назад +2

    Lisa, great video as always. just to be picky, it seems that when you are doing the temp comparison, in the Razer you are running the game out of an Samsung T3 external disk instead of the internal SSD. if that is the case, one could argue the temp is not comparable to the MSI as the SSD will generate some heat and that is not being recorded as internal in the Razer. of course, if the game was being run from the internal and the Samsung T3 was for something else, then my comment is irrelevant.

    • @mobiletechreview
      @mobiletechreview  8 лет назад +1

      Games generally preload assets (graphics and audio), so the SSD doesn't maintain a lot of heat when you're actually playing. It will get heavily accessed when you start a new level or enter a new area (those times when you have to wait a bit for the game to load a new scene). So it really doesn't affect temps that much. I've also played games from the internal drive, and temps are similar to an external drive. I simply didn't have a trendy and demanding enough title on the internal at the moment.

      thanks for the clarification. I realized that if I buy the MSI I can cancel my beach summer vacations, as long as I put the laptop on my legs for a while and then on my chest and arms. perfect tan!

    I personally like the design, build quality and overall form factor of the Bade better. I prefer to have touchscreen, so the Blade would be my pick (as someone that currently owns a GS60). You forgot to mention some key advantages of the MSI though:
    The MSI has a 1TB HDD for storage, on top of the SSD. And both of them can be replaced by the user, so you have acces to two slots, allowing for a theoretical 2TB of SSD storage. RAM can also be upgraded, which isn't the case for the Razer Blade.

      Just because it's a gaming notebook, does not mean that you need to use it exclusively for gaming. It I just want to game, I'll buy a PS4 for 350 euros. If I spend 1650 euros on a laptop, I'm going to use it as my main computing device.

      Landon McCoy I'm in 3rd year computer science (bsc honors) and there isn't anything I don't like about it. Only thing they might be able to improve is making the screen bezels a little smaller, but not like the dell XPS. I hate what dell did with their XPS line, they put the webcam under the screen, turning it into a chincam whereas razer has the perfect webcam position. Only improvement they could probably do is slightly smaller bezels and that's it.
      The rest of the laptop is perfect and for the size the performance is unmatched.

    Here in australia the MSI is 2700 bux and the razer is 3000.
    Shame the razer comes with only a PCIe SSD but i suppose usb storage is a thing. It comes with a touchscreen and better contrast and higher resolution...so i think the razer is the one i will choose. would have liked the MSI to have had touch, though. that's the essential feature for me. Would save me a couple of hundred dollars

    15:52 there are 4 types of heat transfer advection,conduction,convection and radiation.Method pc/laptops use is by conduction using materials that can speed the process like aluminium or copper,that's why you got heat pipes connected with thermal paste to the cpu/gpu bitch those are the ones that get hot not the fken fans.Fans just spin to cool the heat pipes that overall bring the cpu/gpu temps down.I'm 15 and ik this,so you should read more.

    Yikes, that flex of the MSI screen is terrifying! It also seems like MSI stylistically is still playing to the what we like to call 'neon-gamers', but they've added a touch of class. Whereas the Blade, has everything going for it, sans the neon logo. I do hope Razer goes with a non-neon green logo for us business and gaming types soon :)

      Get whatever laptop you want, but in my opinion there is no point in paying more than $1500 for a gaming laptop. At that point, you might as well buy a cheaper gaming desktop that will run the same games at the same quality, and also get a nice 2-in-1 laptop for content consumption, but can't run games. You'll end up with 2 computers for roughly the same price and the setup is way better. I never really understood the point of gaming laptops, cause who games without their laptop plugged in? It would only last like 2 hours lol. Just my opinion.

      it's definitely not bad, but i much prefer the finish on the macbook trackpad over the finish on the xps's. i also found the typecover 4 of the surface to have a really nice trackpad, it's just a bit small. plus, i'd say interface is everything, and window's trackpad just isn't up to par - i'd love smooth scrolling and being able to use two finger swipes to go back/forward and three finger swipes to switch between programs.

    Wtf does a trackpad have to do with file explorer and "throwing your files in the trash"? Saying something like that with no explanation is frustrating. It literally makes zero sense.

      I got the Razer Blade, the MSI isn't as worth it due to battery, build quality, screen, size, etc.

    • @shasterdhari
      @shasterdhari 8 лет назад +2

      +haloShAdOwSnIpE Ordered the phantom pro with the new gtx 1060(m) with 6gb VM. I chose it over the blade because of price and because I need more hard drive storage, which the MSI provides.

    • @haloshadowsnipe3014
      @haloshadowsnipe3014 8 лет назад

      SimmonSays Price isn't a concern for me, and for storage I already got a 2TB hard drive, and 512gb SSD in the blade...

    • @shasterdhari

      +haloShAdOwSnIpE Then go with the blade. Also, in my case, the blade was sold out everywhere.

    @stephenlozada7158 8 лет назад

    @mobiletechreview hey Lisa sorry I'm probably not in the right spot to write I couldnt figure out where but could you do like a best like 500 dollar range I just am so tired of spending big money on laptops not to hang on to them for more than like a year or so. I just bought a dell inspiron 5000 2 in 1 with an i3 6100u processor and i was wondering if it was ok for about 550. I seen asus has one for like 400 but not as many features. And I've had all types of computers from ASUS ROG w 4700HQ 12 inch macbook retina, mba, mbp, surface pros, lenovo yoga 2 pro and many more. So my nerd side is making me want to take it back to get a power house but I just cant justify spending big money on something I will never use to its full potential.

    The MSI is £1100 in the uk. The Razer is £1600. The Razer looks way better, runs cooler, better build, better screen BUT the MSI actually has a SSD + HDD. I think the MSI is the better buy, even thought its ugly as ass :)

    ha! trackpad possessed by demons! maybe demons of all the past rats you have virtually killed with powerbricks after strangling them with the power cord of the thinkpad P70!
    on the drop on your foot test, I guess that if you first drop the Razer on your feet, and the MSI second, the MSI will feel heavier (provided your feet is not broken by then and your brain might be blocking all pain).

    • @everyonehasgay3898
      @everyonehasgay3898 8 лет назад +2

      Yes, but Fucking Alienware makes 18inch laptop that are as thick as a fucking dictionary and it weights 12pounds. It's good for staying home, a laptop is a PORTABLE computer, not a computer.

    • @TechWiz1983
      @TechWiz1983 8 лет назад

      +RedShep You are a misinformed idiot, spreading false statements.. They don't make 18 inch laptops anymore, that was in the past, 17 is the biggest now; which is much thinner & lighter than the 18 used to be. They also have a 15 inch & a 13 inch rendering everything you said stupid+useless.

    • @kyles5751
      @kyles5751 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah, about that, alienware makes their cases out of junky Chinese plastic, I prefer something that won't shatter when dropped, not that I would drop it, but just in case. And they are not on par with build quality even to the msi.

    • @TechWiz1983
      @TechWiz1983 8 лет назад

      +Kyle S Again... Misinformed.... The plastic is kevlar re-enforced and incredibly strong. I have dropped mine two times from a reasonable height and there was zero damage. The build quality is literally better than any other laptop on the market. You clearly don't know what you are talking about, sorry.

    • @kyles5751
      @kyles5751 8 лет назад +1

      you are incorrect on my knowledge, it is also based on preference, and even if it is reinforced, the screen flex is ridiculous, and even if it is strong, plastic is plastic.
