    Nice video, though not really a fair comparison. At Razer blade's price range you can get an Alienware with i7 cpu, gtx 1070, 4k display, ssd + hdd combo, which has a way better performance.

      Jinyu Xie I agree... Or the Razer should have been compared to a MSI Stealth

    This should be an Alienware win because of build quality, I understand the draw for the temps but alienware should have the build quality

    For 1799 , You get a 6700HQ , 256GB PCIE SSD + 1 TB + 99whr + 4K OLED + 1060 + great speakers from Alienware
    For the same price you get a 1080p + Only 256GB NVME ssd +NO HDD + NO 4K + 70whr from razer + a shit load of problems in the pascal variant ( look in razer's forums )

      Yea I don't wanna get a giant ass Alienware, how tf am I supposed to carry it around? It'll make me look like a nerd, nd the battery don't last long

    • @hterrebrood

      The 99wh battery on the alienware lasts longer while gaming than the blade.
      Go to the gym and then, once your little arms have strengthened, put it in the zipper garage of a backpack.

      Carlos Garcia the Alienware Balaji S was mentioning is the 13 inch which only weighs .25 lbs more than the Razer. So, not exactly much difference on the weight. I don't know why he compared an Alienware with lower specs in this video (the Alienware has an i7 processor for a few hundred cheaper than the Razer with other similar specs, so the winner is obvious I would think), which made it seem like the Razer was more powerful. Kinda misleading.

  • @danielgg8149

    I prefer something that's cheaper and powerful. I don't care if it's bulky, as long as it gives better results and performance

    Fantastic exactly the review Iwas looking for. Breaking it down into categories like that was a very good idea. The only thing I would say is that it would have helped if the laptops were showing the same image when you were comparing the displays. Otherwise, great job!

    Would've have been a better comparison if both of them we're I7's, Both QHD's and had the same SSD and RAM size, considering that the Alienware's specs is in a handicap in this video gives the Razer Blade a huge advantage over the Alienware, still a good quality video review tho, keep it up!

    Would have been a more accurate comparison if you compared the Alienware 13 to the Razer Blade and tried to match them spec to spec i7 to i7, 1060 to 1060, QHD screen to QHD screen. Also while gaming the Razer Blade sounds like a damned hair dryer under load while the Alienware 15 and 13 are relatively quiet.

    • @SandraM
      @SandraM 8 лет назад +2

      Beatbox Blake no man,when you compare something, it must have same specifications.whats the point of comparing two different processors which i7 is obviously better? secondly, it depends on preferences. For me,Razer has too..small..not strong quality ,its small and too thin and too much plastic for a gaming laptop.I prefer heavier, solid device for gaming..the razer build reminds me of all laptops which students use to school ..

    • @beatboxblake4723
      @beatboxblake4723 8 лет назад +3

      Akretreda Nyx I don't think you are very educated on the Razer Blade, it's not plastic lol, it's full unibody anodized aluminum actually, it is built with immaculate quality, and the Alienwares are made out of Plastic...

  • @xbt2459
    @xbt2459 8 лет назад +4

    Nice video, but I think it is much better to choose 2 laptops with same CPU ,GPU, and Ram. You can also measure the noise level during gaming as that is also quite important.

    gaming to the razerblade? The alienware optional gtx 1070 is much faster than the razerblades gtx 1060. and you can get a faster cpu with the alienware if you pay the same price as the razertblade

    • @JackTotGaming
      @JackTotGaming 7 лет назад +6

      exactly, should have compared an i7 Alienware to the Razorblade. would have been a better gaming comparison. you can basically get an Alienware 15 R3 with 1070 for the same price as the Razorblade with the 1060

      @legendp2011 7 лет назад +2

      David Garcia depends what you need it for. I use to carry a 2005 dell inspiron 6000 to school and back, and that was heavier than the aleinware

    • @NoBoDys1000
      @NoBoDys1000 7 лет назад +1

      i dont see a situation where youd want something heavy and bigger nowadays. if you just stay home might as well get a desktop, but if youre moving a lot going to school. get the lighter and thin laptop

    • @legendp2011
      @legendp2011 7 лет назад +5

      David Garcia I am a freelance film maker (I'm 22). so I am use to carry around a lot of heavy gear. the alienware is faster (optional faster cpu and gtx 1070) and has better battery life (99watt hour battery). so for me it's the logical choice. It's only slightly heavier but worth it.
      Edit: I already have a desktop, and am considering selling it because I am always on the move. Alienware 15 is much more practical than putting a desktop, monitor and keyboard in the back of my car

    • @sadjoji4762
      @sadjoji4762 7 лет назад +3

      It wouldn't really be fair. Razer has to charge more for their laptops since they are a smaller company. Alienware was bought by DELL a little over 10 years ago and since they are part of a much larger company they aren't as desperate to make enough money to stay in business since they already dominate a few parts of the PC market. (Everyday use/gaming and everything in-between, they have a PC for everything.) And have more than enough money to stay in business. While Razer only has 3 laptops. The Stealth, Blade and Blade Pro which are made for gaming and not everyday basic computer usage.

    • @hterrebrood

      Not fair? Comparing two dissimilar specification has your approval? WTF?

    • @hterrebrood
      @hterrebrood 7 лет назад +1

      Jeff Goldblum
      You are obiously not a well read person or do not know how to read a set of financials(from a year ago for Dell).
      Razer's most recent fund raising put them on a valuation of US$1.5bn (a 5% stake purchased for US$75m). Dell had sales of about 40 times that value a year ago and the company is valued at around US$91bn minus the debt from the US$67bn EMC purchase.
      The most recent Alienware sales alone are a multiple of Razer's 3-year-in-decline sales of around US$300m.

      If I could get either laptop for free, it would certainly be the Blade. You do lose a lot of elegance, thinness, and maturity when going with the Alienware, but for much cheaper it's hard to complain.

  • @JohnJonesRocketCity
    @JohnJonesRocketCity 8 лет назад +8

    Upgrade the Alienware to the price of the Razer and then it will be a little more fair in my opinion. I like the Razer stuff alot but the Price to Performance ratio is not on par with Alienware. But if aesthetics and size mean the most to you then I can not blame anyone for liking the Razer stuff more. Good video though keep them coming!

    Your reviews are EXCELENT! I really like your price to performance comparison... However I never hear reviewer's talk about warranty... After much review watching... and trying to find a laptop that would last me a long time... I decided to throw portability out the window and I went with the MSI GT73VR Titan -003. It is a HUGE BEAST and has the GTX1080 Graphics card with 16GB Ram (upgradable to 64GB), 125GB ssd, 1tb 7200 HDD.. and comes with a 2 year warranty plus three months if you register in the first 30 days... If you put the laptop on A Citi charge card they doubled the warranty for FREE so that I have a 4 year and 6 month warranty! Thanks again for your enthusiastic review... you got me all pumped up about a new laptop again!

    Laptops that are thicker (Alienware) usually have a lot less fan noises when the laptop is trying to process a very high end game, as for a thin laptop (razer) has a very sleek design but watch out because the fan noise is a lot louder on the razer. This shouldn’t matter so much if you are using headphones because you won’t be able to hear the fan noise so well, but some people like speakers better

    I just got the Razer Blade (late 16), and although it generally is really awesome and I love it, it has one major issue that shouldn't be overseen if you spend this amount of money on a gaming laptop, or any laptop for that matter. The wifi antenna - because of how compact the blade is, the developers had to basically cram everything inside so your getting great looks but a horrible wifi reception. I've been using this thing for about 10 hours now, just testing all the things I usually use and/or need, and I think I could deal with the noise (it really is very loud), but the wifi is a deal breaker so I will be ordering the alienware instead and sending this one back.
    I'm usually more of a mac user so I would have loved nothing more than a sleek looking powerhouse.

    *Awesome video mate!! ...But you actually forgot to mention the worst point in favour to the Blade: how ridiculously LOUD it is. Most blade owners complain about the loudness even at complete idle, with the fans always spinning from the moment you press the power button. Yes it's sleek and compact, but that's just too much of a drawback and issue imho. Noise under gaming would be tolerable, but not at idle. This was a huge deal-breaker for me.*

    • @MySonicDragon
      @MySonicDragon 8 лет назад +1

      I just tried and returned a gs63vr (15".. technically the gs43vr would be more equivalent to the blade @ 14"). The build is decent but not at blade level.. the performance is the same or slightly better, and the battery life is worse due to a smaller battery. (The 14" msi has a slightly larger battery than 15" but it's around 61 whr vs the blade's 70 whr; the 15" gs63vr has even less, around 57whr I believe)

    Wow! You look at the stats and think oh they are pretty close, the RAZER had a a slight edge though, but then you mention the price and bam! That Alienware is astounding value plus you can upgrade it yourself, that's the advantage of a thicker laptop I guess.

    Seriously comparing a 6300 to a 6700hq, 8gb to 16gb, hdd to m.2 ssd, 2000$ to a 1250$ ....this comparison sucks. I myself will choose the razer blade if i need it because it's one of the best but it should not be compared to a lower spec laptop only to justify its glory. #respect tech #peace

      Yeah, u did. But come on, there's no reason for comparing them. Atleast they should have the same price point in order to justify the price to performance. Thank you #peace #respecttech

      Bhisak Dutta actually, having the lower spec Alienware hold up against the higher spec blade with a massive price range difference just glorifies the Alienware. If I had enough money to choose either laptop, I'd just buy the Alienware and spend the rest on a Ps4 or Switch, if gaming if the main concern. Hell I'd have enough left over for buying a few dozen extra games even. #realLifeExperience #Alien15R3owner #savingForAPs4OrSwitch

    Also you never mentioned the I/O ports which could be a game changer for some people. Also the possibility to upgrade the Alienware is really important to know.
    It just wasn't a fair review in my opinion and slightly biased.

    i just bought an alienware 15" for 2000$ (early black friday deal) with 1070 gtx/ 16gb ram/ 512GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage) /Killer 1535 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1/Lithium Ion (99 Wh) Battery..... and it feels that im getting a better deal than the razer with better specs ... it is a desktop replacement so i really want the best choice... looking forward for your reply Jon

    • @AweofTech
      @AweofTech  8 лет назад +1

      +Carlos Hernandez Definitely the right choice for a desktop replacement. they really are different categories. I should have mentioned that more in the video. the 1070s a big jump up, around 50% avg fps gain, long battery life and more storage capacity. If you do ever want to use the alienware graphics amplifier down the road, they are much more affordable than the competitions (forgot to mention that). Also, there's eye tracking on the Alienware I had in this video. I haven't had enough time to play around with it much, so holding thoughts on it for now --- I tried it in the Division. The Razer Blade shines for someone who values the thin premium design and sort of sinister mac book pro vibe that games --- over what you can get for your dollar if the emphasis was more on strictly gaming performance / internal components.

      Yea I just put a rant a few comments up...it looks like this guy likes the razor better but never says it...every time the Alienware had something better...he somehow averted the situation by mentioning something totally different about the razor and how it still "gets a point" because of ". ".....this review was not very well thought out

    • @fady6940
      @fady6940 7 лет назад

      Justin Sylva LOL ikr :p that's why he's having less subs compared to other Tech reviewers even though his presentation is better in some cases. He forgot to mention a very radical thing about the display. The Razer even though it's little bright but doesn't comes with a bluelight filter. But all the Alienware laptops does by so far. So the point should have gone with Alienware and also brightness doesn't mean vibrant... He said at a point that Razer got vibrant colours.. OH HELL NO! Alienware even though less bright I've seen on other channels, Alienware gives most vibrant even more than the curved Predator... :) and this guy said something opposite :P

      Professional NooB that doesn't really matter, its all about GPU for gaming. the CPU is the same class and memory is efficient

    • @fady6940
      @fady6940 7 лет назад

      Israel Alvarado An example for you friend... Have the constant as a GTX 1080. Use a base Core i5 in one rig and a base i7 in another. The rig with the i7 takes the cake upto 5FPS.
      Now change have both GPU and CPU constant and vary the RAM... 8gb vs 16gb. The one with the 16GB gives faster game load times and a slight FPS increase like 2-3FPS more.
      And you were saying it doesn't matter really buddy? C'mon man don't do this mate :/ That was a CRYSIS done with Alienware in this video. :P

    • @ia3525
      @ia3525 7 лет назад

      Professional NooB depends how the game was built, majority of them rely more on the GPU and get similar performances on class. Now if you want to really use something in a better example, try using an i3 with an amd card versus nvidia, framerate drips by the 20s due to how they handle draw calls. Some games making good of the CPU like his doom showcase and assassins creed where they fall much higher on the 10-20 range

      it's annoying isn't it?
      many good models coming out and a lot of tough decisions for laptop gamers, both a good and bad thing.
      There is one BIG factor that you may need to consider
      AlienWare
      Razor
      Asus
      all have external graphics docks for their particular laptop offerings, so there is the option to be able to upgrade your laptops graphics card down the road.

    • @OrangeRock

      There is somethings you also need to know about eGpus.
      They all are different,
      I'm not sure if asus will use a thunderbolt 3 or a special cable like alienware.
      Thunderbolt 3 is OK.. It has bottlenecks and it will increase as more powerful gpus come and is around 20-25% slower (Internal display) and 10-15% slower (external display) with gtx 1080 compared to i7 6700k gtx 1080 desktop. And it also has input lag which every competitive player hates.
      Alienware graphics amplifier on the other hand is not just around 250$ cheaper than razer core but also performs much better!
      Being just around 5-8% slower (internal display) and 2-3% slower (external display) with a gtx 1080. (I'm talking about games that are not that much cpu intensive)
      It also doesn't have any input lag as its using pci.e cable in the first place..
      In some games you won't even notice even 2 fps difference between a i7 6700hq + amp 1080 vs i7 6700k .
      But if you have a i7 6820hk version then... There is no fps difference at all! In fact in some cases it will actually performance better lol.
      There is a video on it.

    I've been looking at a laptop that would be similar to the Razer Blade or the new 1060 Alienware 15 R3. I would like the laptop to have a 1060 graphics card, 1080p or 4k resolution (can't decide), i7, 512gb ssd, 16gb memory, doesn't run hot, lightweight, and good to great battery life. Price of course is a factor. Is there a laptop that would have all these specs? If so, which ones would you recommend? Thanks all. Great reviews BTW.

    Your probably should have specked them the same. It would have been more balanced and the price to performance would have been more accurate. An Alienware with the same specs as Razer blade is more expensive. The Razer blade is a high end gaming notebook and you compared it to a laptop with low end specs for a gaming laptop. 8 gb of ram and no ssd and i5 is always going to be way cheaper than hire end products. No hate just suggestions because I found this video to be somewhat unhelpful as it compared to completely different things.

    • @nickloss
      @nickloss 7 лет назад +1

      Bobby Bobby actually an Alienware with the same specs is MUCH cheaper. For the price of the blade you could get an i7-7700, 16gb ddr4 2677, GTX 1070, 512gb nvme + 1tb hdd, and 40% larger battery.

    • @paulneg7855
      @paulneg7855 8 лет назад +1

      +Nathan Anand I disagree, the alienware 13 r3 does have an i7 6700hq and gtx 1060 and would come at a even lower price with more upgrade available with 72 whr battery. Don't underestimate alienware 13 r3, better than the base model of alienware 15 r3.

    • @paulneg7855

    • @harkdandy

      I value thinness and portability above most things because of school. You pay a premium for the Blade because of the amount of engineering it took to get it in such a small form factor, without compromising on power at all. For me, it's definitely a premium I'm willing to pay.
      There's just so many i7-6700hq, GTX 1060 "gaming" laptops on the market, so this one doesn't really peak my interest. They've not done anything new. 2 more Whr on the battery isn't really enough to change my mind.

    • @paulneg7855
      @paulneg7855 8 лет назад +2

      Nathan Reyes
      Sorry, I wanted to say 76 watt hour, but I'm sure it will not matter to you. But alienware 13 r3 does have a smaller screen and may as well be as portable as a razerblade. But if you value thinness more then OLED display, unbreakable design, 400 dollars less, and way more potential to upgrade for future proofing it, brighter and better display, and better battery then go ahead. Razer is a better choice for you :)

      Futuristic Modz there are so many generations of the r3 15". it will depend on your pick. there are the i7 with gtx 1060 or i7 with gtx1070. with those alone you should easily get above 60 fps with high settings. for proof, I can't remember exactly who it was that reviewed this r3 using gta but he got around 93fps I believe on gta. if that doesn't say something. I can't explain it anymore

  • @AdmiralBison
    @AdmiralBison 8 лет назад +1

    The only advantage I see the Razor Blade has over the Alien Ware 15 R3 is because of the proven aluminum anodized design famously used by MacBooks. ( I have a MacBook pro for most of my personal computing)
    slim
    clean
    possibly contribute to better thermal management.
    This is a big factor for me, BUT the Alienware when customizing offers better performance, higher screen resolutions.
    The Alien 13" is closer to the size of my 13" MacBook Pro, but the Razor is aesthically similar instead..
    The other factor is the external graphics amplifier.
    Alienware
    -proprietary connection to the external graphics
    -not as aesthetically uniform as the alienware r3 laptops
    -cannot plug and play, meaning you will need to restart the computer every time you plug/unplug the connection
    +the proprietary connection has a higher bandwidth then thunderbolt 3
    +the alienware graphic amplifier you can fit very large graphics cards like a Titan x
    unsure if you can - feed back on to the internal monitor with the external graphics card, like you do the razor core, But if it can will it have bandwidth limits like thunderbolt 3.
    leaning towards the Alienware 13" OLED full spec'd model

For me though the portability and size were more important. Thanks for the help!

    Nice video. I ended up having to make a decision between these two machines; they both felt sturdier than MSI and ROG machines. Coming from my MacBook Pro Retina (2012) with a GT 650M GPU, both of these machines with the GTX 1060 blew me away and the new MBPs, well, I have switched to Windows so that tells you how I feel about them. I chose the Razer Blade because the trackpad felt better and the machine is smaller and quite a bit lighter than the AW. They are both awesome machines. I paid just under $2,000 for my RB at the Microsoft Store and the AW with the i7-6700HQ, 16GB and a 512GB SSD, not sure if it is a fast as the one in the RB but it does come with a 1TB mechanical drive as well, is about $1700. So a few hundred less. The weight, size, trackpad (coming from a MacBook Pro) all pushed me over the edge to get the RB. I also don't care for all of the LED lighting on the edge of the AW or the lit up trackpad. Just couldn't see myself in a coffee shop with that machine. Again, they are both awesome machines. Hope this comment is a helpful addition to the video to anyone considering both machines.

    • @AweofTech
      @AweofTech  8 лет назад +2

      That's a tough one, I'd probably go with the GL502VM, just since I'd personally put strong emphasis on having an i7. amzn.to/2gnARwW And the G-SYNC panel on the GL502VS I reviewed with the GTX 1070 is so buttery smooth to game on. Haven't personally tested the VM, so not sure on the cooling though. The 502VS cooling is awesome, but now hearing the VM which has a slightly thinner chassis gets a little warm. Keyboard, trackpad, lights, speakers, upgradability, a win for alienware IMO. VM, 1.5 inches less depth, smidge thinner, and over 2 lbs lighter if weight/dimensions matter.

  • @writtenradio
    @writtenradio 7 лет назад

    Thanks for taking the time to get so in depth with these laptops. I disagree a little having tried both, (and owning a Blade) that the keyboard on the Blade is far superior in my opinion not only because of the Chroma lighting but also the style and quality. I didn't like the Dell keyboard at all and think they could have spent more time, especially considering that some of their other notebooks have pretty stellar keyboards as far as comfort and design. I also think the Alienware's lighting is too much, they went a little overboard trying to deliver a "gamer" type aesthetic. Filling a Mid Tower rig with LED strips or even cold cathodes can be great looking, especially if its subtle but this doesn't translate well into a laptop design and ends up looking wayyy too flashy. But all in all they're both great notebooks and the Dell is a good option as I think the Razer Blade is a bit over priced.. Even when Razer is largely considered as the Apple of Windows laptops as far as build quality and design. The new Blade Pro is especially over priced and shouldn't even be considered by the majority of people. Anyway, keep up the comparison videos! Try to get your hands on an ASUS or MSI and maybe do a round up video comparing all the current Pascal attempts by different manufacturers.

    People in the comments! I’m new to gaming Laptops! I dot have enough room for a full pc set up. And I really like the AW. I’d be doing games like world of Warcraft, D and D, and other games like that, for a while maybe an 1-3 hours do you think that the AW would work well for that?
