    I need to build the bridge between stoicism and the 48 laws of power. They seem to be at odds with one another unless you apply the power to greater good.

    Ryan, thank you so much for the wisdom you share in each video. I didn't know much at all about Athenian Stoicism until I began watching your content, and for me, because I've struggled for 35+ years with anxieties, OCD, severe depression, and chronic suicidal ideation, you have been a literal life saver. Learning about (devouring) Stoicism and adopting the concept of being conscious of my immediate, emotional reactions to situations, people, and the sense that something bad is always going to happen, and then, when I was ready, intentionally controlling my reactions to those things, has changed my life.
    Thank you.

    Use the Alexander Technique to better implement stoic principles - AT allows us to use our minds and bodies in the most efficient way - purely from a bio-mechanical pov - Frederick Mathias Alexander (Australian actor born 1880 ish) called it taking control of our psycho-physical organism - counter intuitively the process involves mentally ceding control - stopping yourself from trying to be right in your ‘use of yourself’ - another fave Alexander phrase

    Around the 5 minute mark: I get that. Absolutely - its great advise but I thought about it as 'meaning' intead of fulfilllment (as the correct word)

    • @pmakiie
      @pmakiie Год назад +1

      I don‘t think it has to necessarily be about meaning. Maybe in this specific case. But it is about investing energy in something „real“ that you set your mind to. Alternative example: I was practicing the handstand for the past 6 months. It‘s very fulfilling but not meaningful (for me).

    • @RobertEbbster

      @@pmakiie yes,that's what I mean - your example. I don't feel or do those things to be fulfilled but because it's meaningful in the context if my life. I cant quite grasp the concept if fulfilllment. i don't think i need to be fulfilled and don't long for it.thank you for your answer.

    • @RobertEbbster

      @@RobertEbbster Thank you for the reply as well! So interesting to see that we associate those words kind of the other way round :) Meaning for me has something external and objective to it, so i try to avoid using it. With „fulfillment“ I want to express something that simply makes me happy in my own tiny cosmos.

    This was one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Not that it was badly written, just that the premise is abominable ‘No point in being good, because everyone else is out to screw you over, so might as well get there first’. It destroys your faith in humanity and in many ways is the opposite of what the stoics practiced.
