"It's resistance that make us stronger". Thank you, Robert, for this one. As when we are working out, as in life when we face a problem, it's resistance that makes us stronger. Why do we seek resistance in one scenario and run away from it in the other?
This is so true. I used to be agreeable but have slowly started tilting more towards being disagreeable unless I'm proved wrong. That resistance was uncomfortable at first.

Hey Ryan, “To be free of passion yet full of love” stood out to me as well. If you recall the sentence before that Marcus said “not to display anger or other emotions”. So what I think it means is if you’re angry at something you don’t allow yourself to go into a rage(passion) , but you’re still fully aware of how you feel (love). Another example, in romance, passion would be infatuation with the other person whereas love would be a clear on your desire for the other person. In summary I believe he is referring to an Aristotelian mean in a very poetic an eloquent fashion. -Thankyou
Ryan, I watched your tiktok about Robert's 48 Rules of Power a week ago and decided that will be my book for W4 and now after finishing the book, this talk came out on RUclips. Everything you do resonates with me and thanks for your contribution in the world. You guys are great inspiration and made me rethink how I act in this world and how to be a better person I was yesterday.
I want to push back on what robert said about interview preparation, and having a plan in general. What works for me a lot is indifference with confidence. If you understand that thing does not matter(indifference) and that you’re a capable(confidence) it usually goes well. Look you’re not going to be 10/10 in your life, but as long as you’re scoring you can still be playing. 6/10 without stress and anticipation is soo much better
Such a great conversation! So many great insights. As a beginning stoic I do notice it’s hard to almost become narcissistic about the world and others who are not…mainly because this way of thinking is so much so on a higher level of thinking than the majority of this ultimately primal world.

I think the Boxing Rules are called "Queensbury Rules" . I literally cannot believe I can tell my 2 favourite writers something, after they have taught me an unbelievable amount about so many things!
I really enjoyed this conversation. I do feel like the anti-vax sentiment has not aged that well. We should definitely be sympathetic to these people. In my lifetime I have seen big pharma wreak havoc and death with the opioid crisis. I’ve lost people to it myself. That crisis was %100 the fault of big pharma. I’d say that’s good reason to treat people with kindness end empathy who are suspicious of the vaccine. Also, the studies can’t be released for 50 years and what we have seen has been heavily heavily redacted. You are them, they are you. You taught me that.
The anti Vax sentiment has aged very well. "We have to live with these people," he said. Both of them should be ashamed and never allowed to forget what they've wrought on society. A banishment from the public square is the only acceptable fate.
Thank you for your comment. We are all here trying to learn and be better. I did not agree with the covid vaccine or the many boosters, (especially when government and employers tried to force you) but do not consider myself anti-vaccine at all. Getting words of wisdom from people who don't think like you is a great learning experience on how you handle things. It was a very good conversation.
I wish I'd been taught this.... I was young and found life very rough but taught not to defend myself but that conflict was not normal and meant that there was something wrong with me
My practice of stoicism enabled me to harness my emotions as a tool like an actor and then put them away in a draw. A bit cynical maybe but freeing. I realized that the emotions I used to feel were mostly those of others, a manipulation, energetic vampires but not what I felt whatsoever. There are collective emotions which are very sneaky because they embroil you forcibly. Stoicism and discernment is the same, It's all about the supraconsciousness and I say supra because the consciousnesse can be altered by everything we see in the media etc... But the supraconsciousness is unadulterated. It's this part of you that is not in the body, you can call it spirit guide, that knows what's beyond the veil. Gratitude 🙏
@Sk9epx It's not something that you can explain. It's an experience to be lived individually once you intend to break away from the 3D consciousness which is a manipulation in order to keep you in a mental jail. Don't give your consent and live this experience like an actor in a movie knowing that you are more than that on a spiritual level

But you do. And you smile and make the baby comfortable and happy. You don’t act angry or put out. You DO what needs to be done. That’s love.
-25:40 I think Marcus sees passion as being an unguided extreme emotion therefore a weakness. Where as the Stoics teach to love but not to take what you love for granted . Don’t assume it/they will be there tomorrow. Controlled emotions.

"To be free of passion, but full of love"- first of all, we need to set a difference between emotions and feelings. Emotions are an immediate reaction, a nervous system reaction, more specifically, the lymbic system, it's a physical state, it is basic and irrational, so these are considered emotions: anger, fear, disgust, enjoyment, surprise, on the other hand, feelings is more something of the soul, it is more elevated, it also involves some thinking, some mental activity, so love is a feeling, longing, empathy, compassion, trust, betrayal, etc, a feeling can also be considered an emotion that went through an inner alchemy, you thought about it and you elevated it. It is more a subjective experience rather than an instinctual response. So when MA says "to be free of passion, but full of love", it means not to be reactive, but not be devoid of feeling, get in touch with the highest feeling and serve it, but be strong and don't be reactive to outside events. He probably didn't think of it in these terms, but it has a lot to do with healing trauma, because when you heal your inner wounds you are not easily triggered, you have more inner power. So that is it, love, and be strong, don't get triggered over small things, love, but be loyal to your love and not to annoyances. Look beyond. That is a noble way of existing.
I've definitely been enjoying a lot of the Stoic stuff on this channel including this talk. Not sure the comments about anti-vaxxers have aged particularly well, though.
