Fantastic match, 2 fantastic players. Wow though i just love sheltons variety, the serve and volleying, the curling backhand slices.. really great to watch, and nice sportsmanship at the end.
Good respect and kindness between the 2 at the end.
Nice to see
Shelton's kicker is just sick. Good fight to pull this one out. Mensik has been playing really well.
Mensik is a tennis prodigy for sure! What a talent! He clearly has the game to go all the way. I'm excited to see him blossom 🙌
Indian Wells are slow hart courts. ANy other surface and Shelton sucks he is weak minded fragile
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such excitement and joy from a player who plays like he wants to go all the way every time he steps on the court.
and he is just in 3rd round, never in the final
It's also called "wasted energy". All those yells/screams to generate audience sympathy is wasted precious mental strength/energy that one can use down the line in long matches. His daddy should've taught him that.
@@gabriellizarraga3240 Nevermind the fact that Shelton reached the final of the Toyko 500 and won!
@@KnowTrentTimoy Ahh yes, the thing NO player EVER does...
@@got2bjosh .... and yet Shelton hasn't won more than 2 matches on court at any tournament since then 5 months ago .... and when is he going to be lucky enough again to face the ATP 50th ranker in a tournament final like Karatsev - you wouldn't even get that in the smallest of tournaments.
I'm always happy to see humble and exciting players like Ben do well. 🙏
Tennis is a solitary sport people when Ben yells its to hype himself up and keep focus. Yall probably haven’t played any other high intensity sport talking about the kid 😂😂😂 dude literally played football before tennis.
ingenious insight, what would do w/o you?
Why do people hate Shelton? He had such a huge and diverse game. And is always gracious whether he wins or looses.
Please, tell me you’re not serious here.
1. NoleFam worshippers who believe he upset their king
2. Boring traditionalists that expect tennis players to show no emotion on court
*loses
No I mean I love his game but he's a total duecher😂
Lmao, do you even watch tennis? Yes, a yelling matching is always great 😂
When he hits the forehand like Rafa, you know it’s gonna be a winner or an unforced error producer 🔥
not the case with nadal himself
The bulk of Ben's errors were in the 1st set. Only had 3 UEs in the 2nd.
Thank you for that
Quite the backhand slice at 2:55
It was out for 90% of its trajectory. Crazy how it curved in the last second.
I think it's mostly a camera perspective thing and not actual side spin@@victorhumphrey131
He learned from Rafa
Two young warriors.
Mensik is so calm. Once he develops a weapon, watch out. New favorite for me.
What? Menslayer already has big weapons. His 1st serve, his trademark Czech backhand, his dangerous forehand, & his net game is very strong. At 18, he's already such a complete player. Even Ben said "huge game... keep going." The biggest hole right now is his 2nd serve.
@@got2bjoshWell, his forehand is still problematic and inefficient from many positions. He's getting better, but he's (hopefully) not complete, he still needs some work.
@@J.-M. Yes, but when he has time, it’s a weapon.
Good job Ben. You know you are popular and exciting to watch when even your enemies come to check your highlights out every chance they get.
💯 their hate and jealousy makes him stronger and better 💪🏾🔥
Let them boost the algorithm for more Shelton highlights
Remember HATERS hate up.
I really wanted Mensik to win, but Shelton deserved it just this little bit more in the end. Congratulations! And what a player Memsik is at the age of 18!
Bravo, Gents! Such a smart and versatile match. Congratulations, Ben!
Shelton's disrespect by screaming when his opponents miss is just too embarrassing as an American to watch. His father just sits and lets him do it. No parenting and this is the result
JAKUB IS SO HUMBLE AND A JOY TO WATCH.
YESSSS,congrats Ben.
150mph, baby! Fastest serve of the tournament!
Since Ben came in he is the one who does it ..150 miles per hour
It wasn't an easy match for Shelton considering Mensik won Rublev not so long ago in a very convincing fashion. Hope we can see Sinner v Shelton again soon 🙂
Hold up. Rublev doesn't have Shelton's serve & doesn't return the bigger 1st serves as well. It's why he panics so much under pressure. Breaking can be MUCH harder for him when he's not making 1st serves (his 2nd isn't scary) & isn't getting looks at 2nd serves. Ruby couldn't handle Menslayer's 1st serve, but Shelton could.
Such a shame these two rising players had to play in the 2nd round. Can't wait to see what both of them do over the next few years
Menslayer will for sure be in the top 50 before the season ends. He's already in the 60s. Shelton's goal should be to stay in the top 20 and try to move inside the top 15.
@@got2bjoshI’ll convey the message to Shelton
@@evan3087 I'm sure he and his team have things covered. It's been a solid start to the sophomore season. Improving upon last season's results by making it beyond R1 isn't too high a bar.
Say what you want about Ben Shelton, but he is a joy to watch!
Who cares about how they play?
Lmao yeah ok buddy
But not a joy to hear!
@@Viktorprj19
Then why the hell are you watching his highlights. You're like a toxic gf who can't leave a toxic relationship
@@chentye4494Keep boosting the algorithm for Shelton's highlights... smh
Mensik has a great future !!
Love Shelton & Mensik.
Great players!
Good luck to Mensik.
Shelton is now playing for Mensik too in Indian Wells!
Had me worried there for a bit, Big Ben Shelton dropping that first set. #go #go #gators. First time i seen Minsik this dude got a bad ass game also. God i wish i was a teenager. Was Big Ben- Rises to the occasion!
Menslayer reached the final of Doha, his debut ATP tournament. Played super well & has been a dark horse ever since. Now he's higher ranked than all the other Next Gen teen players, save Fils.
@@got2bjosh no I'm not sleeping on fils. Lately these kids are coming out of the wood work.

Shelton will be winning majors soon
I like Shelton but I disagree. His game is too incomplete currently.
After win in 1 match
Ahah you dream or you are under drugs😂
Powerful youngster's 🎾👍
Shelton's forehand crosscourt inside-out was so effective. Mensik didn't seem to know exactly how to prepare for that.
Shelton's balls were moving way from Menslick so much both on serve & in the forehand groundies. Menslack wasn't prepared for that lefty life!
Tbh shelton is the only player who i enjoy watching after Roger
FRRR
its prob because Shelton tries a lot to play like Federer :) that's why i enjoy watching him as well
Benny takes the belt to Menslayer with some massive serves & monster forehand returns. 4-6 6-3 6-4 in 2hrs. After getting broken twice in the opener, Shelton upped his aggression with each set. Stats were better for him across the board. Lots of respect & a great exchange at the net between the two. "Huge game... everything for me since USO has been... keep going." So cool to hear Ben talk after the interviews about Sakkari sitting on his kick serve at TBT & his dad telling him to up the pace to 130mph.
3:29 Has been what? A struggle? I watched the full match & still can't quite tell what he said there about his experience post-USO (not that the haters were of any welcome).
When Shelton was as old as Mensik, Shelton was ranked 573, OMG I wonder where Mensik will go if he's ranked 81st now
2:44 2:54 Roberto Carlos would be proud of that bending.
A lot of people like to hate but I love Ben's energy 🔥 definitely my favorite player atm
Big Ben did alot a guys a massive favor taking Mensik out early.
❤❤❤❤ c est toujours difficile le 1er match d un Mastercard mille , bravo Ben
I can't wait to see how Ben faces up against Sinner. Win or lose, it's going to be entertaining.
Shelton won, and Sheldon celebrated!
This Ben is fire
I love this resumen
LETS GO BEN!!
Arnaldi pissed off Alcaraz & is now trapped and held hostage in a Spanish bakery. The scoreline of the 2nd & 3d sets is RUTHLESS. Games? What games? Sorry, no games available for purchase. Only bagels.
Is Shelton still using the yonex ezone ? Seems like a different racket here
Great match from both sides btw
The screaming at every point won as if he won a Slam is pathetic.
Yes Ben Shelton 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I want Ben to be more mentally consistent. The first set he should have won
Should've been a straight sets win, but Menslick is talented, young & played with self-belief. Shelton wasn't aggressive enough in the 1st set & said as much in the interviews. He became more aggressive with each set & the stats reinforce that. Better serving, better returning, & better forehand.
Really wanted mensik to have a good run😢😢
Don't worry, he's a multiple slam winner in the future, I think.
@@myheartspits Not if he doesn't do better behind 2nd serves. Biggest hole in his game right now.
He is 18 years old!!! He will improve a lot.
I like Shelton's style of play but what I don't like is his point-by-point over celebration... Maybe he should reserve all those when he wins...
i ❤ben
Funny how for many commeting here, "Mensik" seems to be turned into "Menslayer" by autocorrect..🙂
omigoodness that soprano noted banshee cry when he won the 2nd set is the most annoying thing i have seen in quite some time... yikes he makes it hard to pull for him. does anybody play these back to him?
huge won Shelton
I feel Mensik will be a top 20.
Oh stop the shouting, Ben. You don't need to do it - let your tennis talk!
Where is the 150mph serve I want??
Don't know why they didn't include it.
Mensik is the truth. Shelton was fortunate to pull this out. Both dudes are the future.
Fortunate? Nah, Ben showed that he had the bigger weapons. Shelton was more aggressive with each set, broke Mensack 3 times and led the vast majority of stats including on serve & return. Drop that 1st set and the next two show the real story. Menslack struggled with the balls coming off Ben's racket once they really started moving.
Shelton didn't face break point at all in the 2nd and 3rd set, truly was his match to take and Mensik couldn't keep up
One reason people hate him is because of his deep seated self belief...just look at the likes of any Black player from any country...they are timid and insecure for years on the tour...Shelton knows he possessed GREAT POTENTIAL, and he believes in himself, he knows he can become a top player, even number one! He reminds me of Sampras at times, before Sampras unleashed ,"the magic" and started kicking butt!
These two players ae going places, they will go up further in their tennis careers. Ben Shelton looks like a black player only because of his Afro hair. Dad is black. In the US people like to identify with mom's race if mom is white. Ben may be the best player in the current crop of American new talent.
Shelton is greeat 💪
Is channeling midnight oil a good thing? lol
Alot of opinions about Ben Shelton in this comment section...the keyboard warriors come out in full force during his matches...He should win just to piss folks off 😂😂
frrr like i love him but barely anyone else does….
OLE BENSKI OLE BENSKI!
HIJ ZEI "Dit ga ik niet DOEN!!!"
I think that with Ben, a lot of players are getting pumped up to play him because of his lack of maturity. He's only 20-21 I believe but he still has a lot to learn. GAMEwise, he has to improve his backhand and return of serve.
Lack of maturity? Return of serve? Y'all stay talking mess. He won. After getting broken early on, he broke straight back. After those two breaks in the 1st set, Shelton never faced break point on serve again. Instead, he broke Menslack 2 more times & led in the serving & returning stats.
@@got2bjosh Say what you want but he isn't wining easy points off of the ground and that's what he needs. We all know he can serve and hit a forehand but his back and backhand return of serve is really lacking. He's not a player that can win easy points on the other person's game like the top ranked players can. He's not going to win this tournament. That's not talking mess, that's talking sense.
@@b.u.dmusic9424 Not winning easy points? You clearly didn't watch the full match or see the 23 winners he hit to Menslack's 17 or check that he swept the stats sheet. Again, y'all stay talking mess.
@@b.u.dmusic9424
you're talking out your ass my friend
The shelton ckriders will be exiting rd 4. The return game that her has means he can never win a slam.
I like Ben! Win Ben
Way to go Ben!
Ben Shelton hammers the ball like a hungry hyena. Watch out!
« Vamos ». He’s so ridiculous.
what's wrong with him saying that?
He's been saying that for years since his college days. Nothing new there. Fyi, Florida has a huge Spanish speaking population, duh.
"She speaks 26 languages "
Hey i like Ben , no cookie cutter tennis players for me !
He is channeling some midnight oil... thats the name of a well known band, I wonder if the American commentator is aware of that
This style of game won’t do any good on clay !
also I notice the balls bouncing differently.
It wasnt Mensik's day.. bad 1st serve in, too many ue. And Schelton hits the line so often 😕
Still annoying this yelling..
2:30 this guy is just impossible to cheer for
backarm return stand on right foot bend left foot or on toes.
hail the lord !
Why is it when American players play at home they like they are best thing
USA has more players in the top 100 on both tours than any other nation. USA hosts more tennis tournaments than any other nation. USA has the two largest tennis stadiums in the world (USO & IW). USA holds more Grand Slams, Olympic gold medals, Davis Cup titles, and weeks at #1 than any other nation. USO is the only uninterrupted Grand Slam & delivers the largest prize money on tour save for Finals. So yeah, not too shabby.
@@got2bjoshdespite all that, Agassi was the last American to be a great player, it's almost been 15 years with mediocre players
@@eiyp3Roddick?
@@eiyp3 Your math is slightly off. Roddick was the last American male to win a Slam (USO) & reach #1. Shelton shall be next. It has been a LONG 20 year drought, but Serena, Venus, etc. have all delivered Grand Slam, Olympic gold, & World #1 glory for USA in the meantime.
Americans always act like that. They think America is the centre of the Universe 😂
We all know his fate when he goes up against Sinner.
What?
He didn’t do the hanging up the phone celebration?! Disappointing. Did he never do it again after Djokovic trolled him?! 😂😂😂
He did it at the US open because it was a natural emotion and response to doing something he had never done before and wasn't expected to do. People can't grasp the ideal that he is a very outwardly emotional person. Novak is the last thing on his mind like he is on you all's mind.
He largely dropped it after Shanghai. Debuted something new at Tokyo when he won his maiden title. Fans still use it, though.
He will use it again if he beats Djoko. That would be epic 😅
Shelton is irritating to watch.
Shelton is both a joy and annoying to watch at the same time 😝! Extraordinary shots and service but attitude needs maturity
I think he's improved that aspect quite a bit, credit where credits due.
Enough already with these cantankerous character attacks. He doesn't need random wannabe church ladies trying to police his behavior at every turn. Shelton is not immature, he's confident & extroverted. Self belief is HUGE when the margins are so thin. Ben knew how to utilize a US crowd that was constantly cheering him on.
@@got2bjosh spoke like a true American 😂! Your behavior and arrogance says it all. Of course you won’t find any issues with Shelton’s as well, lol.
@@ParekhitB nah mate, I'm not American. And she's right, its confidence, its a home crowd and its a tough opponent, he needs all the energy he can get. I don't think shelton deserves the hate, because I saw what people disliked last year, and its gone now. People aren't just static events, they change- and can improve! And he's constantly improving it seems. He's mature, he's competitive, respectful, an excellent tennis player.
@@dominiccalzetti Don’t get me wrong here! No doubt about improvement but he still isn’t there yet in terms of his attitude. He may be well on his path but it’s too early to say. And I have nothing against him. He has a spectacular game but if he wants to be one of the greats then he needs to learn humility. P.S: the American comment was more for the attitude and style of her writing. I’ve seen it enough.
Shelton won with who becomes great, a part from him
