      Matthews was very good for a stretch of his media career and was a pretty fair interlocutor of all sides to a debate. Something happened at MSNBC in the late Bush years that infected him too. He was just as bad about Trump as the rest of the Press. At least he admits that the Russia collusion hysteria was false - most of the Press still won't do that.

      While true and I can't stand Matthews either, I find his challenges to Krystal to provide specifics highlighted how much her arguments rely on moralism and emotion rather than being able to get specific. I like BP as a barometer for populist messaging, but it's kind of frustrating hearing them always say they want to talk policy yet can only ever talk about the broadest of broad strokes when it comes to policy.
      The fact that Krystal says she doesn't believe that injecting many billions of new money into the economy doesn't necessarily cause inflation is wild.

    • @Volmire1
      @Volmire1 11 месяцев назад +4

      Yeah, honestly she was turning me off to BP, by naively talking about printing money as a solution. Like, if printing money just solved the issues, we would have printed quadrillions in the past to escape any financial hardships people might have. But of course money doesn’t grow on trees.

    • @trtnec
      @trtnec 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Volmire1 most objective economists would disagree with Matthews actually - it's way too oversimplistic to attribute this recent inflation to simply covid spending when there's other equally or more salient factors. Too little supply and/or too much demand causes inflation - and we had a double whammy of supply chain snarls combined with a re-opening economy, plus corporate price gouging on top of that which was arguably the biggest factor - oil prices were not even high anymore (even check the financial markets during the height of inflation) when big oil was making record profits. These are all facts Matthews obstinately seems to ignore.

      As much as I disapprove of the blatant anti-European American de-facto speech codes present in every facet of American life, the Democratic establishment isn't blatantly affluphobic (bigoted against the rich). The slogans "Tax the rich" and "eat porky" have been tried around the world and are extremely effective at stoking villainous envy everywhere from Russia to Mexico, but it is the equivalent of naming Native Americans "red skins" that ought to be scalped, or in this case guillotined, and have their land and/or property redistributed through something like the homesteading act.
      A truly fair taxation policy would be a dollar amount paid by every citizen, maybe a hundred dollars, maybe ten thousand depending on what the poor could afford. Because of the extreme pressure of villainous envy the state would enact a flat rate of taxation on everyone to be a little more progressive. A true progressive tax system is plainly evil. Also, plenty of people calling for this are Christians obeying their various church's social teachings which means even left wing Christians are theocratic. The far Left and the far Right (on January 6th there was a right wing riot who's participants are guilty of treason which may be fewer riots in number but much more dangerous to the Republic) must be stopped. Police must be ready and willing to use live ammunition and full auto to stop these things whether it comes from BLM, Antifa, or traitors.

      I was in HEAVEN the first time I was able to watch MSNBC all day. I would rush home from work to catch all my shows. And when I tell you, I bought everything they said, hook line and sinker. Every once in a while, the logic didn't make sense, but I still trusted them. Then, one day, I came across TYT, now here we are.
      I trusted them. Just like my parents trusted their local news, but they had an agenda, we just didn't know and it was too difficult to get to additional information. I think.
      Random thought: I'm black. I grew up in an all black neighborhood and I didn't personally know anyone who did crime stuff, but subconsciously, it pains me to admit that I felt like black people were a bit lazy and prone to stealing. Not the people I knew, but in general. When I think back to why I would have that belief, when no one around me displayed that, I fully believe that it was because I only saw black criminals on the news. Now that I think more critically, I noticed (pre Floyd) that the news went out of their way to not show the faces of criminals who were not black for run of the mill crimes. Anyway, I think I'm cured, and I noticed that particular agenda only because it affected me, but who knows what other effects they have/had on people because we trusted them and they had agendas?
      Oh my! Sorry for the book. I got carried away.

All of this and a huge gap in wealth at the end of a 50 year long project off neoliberal economic policies that both parties and the American media signed onto. You guys did a great job of being respectful yet assertive. I wouldn't have this guy back though. He has no interest in even letting you finish a sentence, let alone having a real conversation about anything.

    2 minutes in and Matthews has jumped over 5 topics while avoiding the opening question. WTF?

    This was wild, indeed. Credit to both Krystal and Saagar, he is a BEAST of an establishment Neo-liberal and to conitnuously ask the tough questions, not letting up on holding his feet to the fire, I was thoroughly impressed. I at times started whimping out as a spectator, thinking maybe we were going too hard. But NOPE, Krystal and Saagar were not letting up. Thank you guys for doing the hard work.

      Agree except for the issue of inflation. Krystal and Saager failed to push back on Mathews' insistence that nothing could be done. The reality of the US's profligate military spending in Ukraine gives a lie to that assertion.

      @karen-qm7og The spending in Ukraine is inflationary, as is all spending UNLESS real competition is forced by having an antimonopolistic market economy like Adam Smith outlined in his body of work. The brain dead Ayn Rand disciples of libertarianism fail to emphasize that Adam Smith had a strong role for government as a referee to prevent the corporatism and monopolies we have today. The corporations go for any price gouging they can get away with because the failure of the US government to bust up near monopolies like Amazon that have a position where they can charge what they want.
