This song first came out after my husband was killed in a plane crash. I bought the CD and must have sobbed to it 10,000 times. Watching this new video, and hearing it again after more than 10 years, takes me right back to that time. And as much as it hurts, I now feel that I float more on top of those beautiful lyrics and harmonies, instead of underneath them.
I lost two police officers under my direction in a shooting. Certainly second guess myself everyday and struggle. This music brings calm to me. Christ calls back his best first.
Oh, my dear woman. Thank you for this share. You are beautiful, strong, brave and inspiring in your ability to face the grief and let music help heal, 💛🙏🏼 to you.
We first saw Nickel Creek in September of 2002 at the Pagosa Springs Folk fest. My son was 6 months old and I vividly remember her standing in the isle with him in a sling while they played When You Come Back Down. Flash forward 22 years to Bend, OR on Saturday night with my wife, now 22 yr old son and our 17 year old son. We laughed, we cried, we sang. It was magical. Thank you for being the theme music for our family's journey. It's truly been a gift.
This actually made me cry so many tears of joy. After so much time passed with no word from them and seeing this pop up in my notifications has 100% made my day.
@Marvin Martian everyone has different life experiences my man, though it may just be a band to you, nickel creek has been with me for years and will continue to do so for as long as their music is still available for us.
@Marvin Martian yeah I've just tied a lot of emotional distress to them. It's hard to explain honestly, but I appreciate you being understanding. You do the same my man.
@@eldermcnamara8758 You don't need to explain anything. You do you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Dicks are always gonna be dicks. Music is emotional. If the music moves you to tears by all means let them flow.
@Marvin Martian be less of an asshole bro. what the fuck is your problem? get some help, therapy. something. until then might I suggest keeping your fucking fingers off the keyboard
This song and the Lighthouse Tale were played on repeat a hundred times a day in my house when the CD dropped. Nearly 25 years later, I am singing these same songs to my kids.
This song was a lullaby I sang to my newborn in the middle of the night, those early sleepless years. I knew my purpose was to give him wings and that I needed to cherish those brief years of holding him in my arms. He turns 20 this year. And he just drove out of my driveway on his way to work ❤ These days too are few and will soon be over but I'm proud of who he's become. Your music helped a young mother learn how to love with open arms ❤
Sara, Sean, Chris: We’re all lucky to have your influence in American music. Your friendships and impact have survived more than 30 years. Here’s to 30 more!
The additional 20+ years of maturity you loaded into this song has given it an entirely new meaning. Those clipped phrases make it sound a lot less hopeful and significantly more forlorn. Absolutely breathtaking!
I see an uninspired performance by three very creative, talented people who are tired of performing the same song again for the thousandth time. The fire is there when they play something new and spontaneous, and that's part of being true artists.
Just in case you read these comments, thanks for all the great music. My family has enjoyed every album over many years. Our favorite concert ever was seeing you in Tulsa. Nickel Creek is a true treasure.
@@HearturMind First time I saw them was Merlefest, many years ago, their first album just came out and Sean actually had I believe it was the measles, I said I must have your autograph on my cd and jokingly said I may not get this close again ,two weeks later they were playing them on CMT

I can’t listen to this song without shedding a tear anyway, but the 20 years of experience, both from the artists and myself have just added another dimension of emotion. The first time I heard this, I had just graduated college and didn’t know ... anything. I decided to risk relationships and career plans and stability to join the AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps to serve for a year. I’d never stationed hundreds of miles from anyone I knew, but these were the exact words my boyfriend spoke to me. He knew I needed the time and space to grow and take chances and I woke up next to him this morning, married almost 16 years, listening to our 5 kids downstairs. What a blessing.
Nickel Creek is an American cultural treasure. We're so lucky they still make music together after 3 decades. Can't wait for the first album of new music since 2014.
This is just ethereal. The minute I heard this, I was completely hooked. That was almost a quarter of a century ago….. tough to wrap my head around that.
I had the privilege of seeing you guys in Chattanooga 20+ years ago right before you blew up. I had just moved to the South and didn't know anything about bluegrass. I just remember sitting there in front of the stage thinking, "Wait, THIS is what bluegrass is? I LOVE THIS!" I've heard a lot of great music since, but that first magical night with Nickel Creek is still my favorite. Thanks for all of it.
Oh my goodness. This brought a tear to my eye. My mom was the one who made me a fan of you guys 20 years ago. She passed away in December...wish I could show her this video.
This is where it started for all three of them. Their journey together was magical, and each has spun off to make amazing music with others. I am so glad they get together every few years to revisit their amazing catalog, and even add to it. And again, if briefly, in 2023. Thank you Sara, Sean, and Chris.
I realize this song is about a different part of life, but my mother is about to pass away. These beautiful lyrics and melodies have allowed me to grieve in a meaningful way.
My mom used to play your music when ever me and my brothers were acting out, and we would always immediately settle down and start singing along. One day my Children will hear the beautiful tones of nickel creek. I once heard someone say “this is the kind of music god would listen to” I can’t think of a better way to describe the beauty in your art. With much love from the bluegrass state ❤
I stumbled across NC by random chance flipping through TV channels. I stopped for a moment out of curiosity to listen, and it wasn't long before my jaw was hitting the floor watching these kids (at the time) playing their instruments like aged pros. I went out the next day and bought their CD (NC/NC) not knowing anything other than the song I heard them play on TV. I was blown away, and have been one of my favorite bands ever since. And have played them to anyone who would listen, and turned on dozens to these guys. Talent, heart and soul. Don't know how they didn't take over Nashville, but I'm thankful to have their musical gifts in my life 😎.
I grew up on your music through my grandfather playing you constantly. I grew up singing along to Sara and Alison Krauss’s voices. Nickel Creek defined years of my life and you still do. Your music keeps my grandfather alive now that he’s passed and I play your albums with my husband and child, hoping to repeat the cycle of comfort in your music with my own children. Thank you for this 💛
Beautiful song co-written by Danny (Good Time Charlie) O’Keefe and Tim O’Brian. Please listen to all the wonderful Danny O’Keefe music that defines 20th Century Americana. You know “The Road” cover by Jackson Browne, just the tip of a mother-load of great songs. Thanks Chris, Sarah and Sean for covering this this treasure. In spite of different configurations over the years, you three are still undefinable magic.
So this is the first of many? Hope-a hope-a hope-a. I came to Nickel Creek late, just before they broke up. It reminded me of the Beatles breaking up in that I understand if a member wants to do something really different but when the best music you make is with your other band members- best to tough it out and make it work- kind of like a marriage. These 3 together are amazing and I can only hope that there'll be more.
Nothing more romantic and mesmerizing in this life than to listen to a trio of musicians engaging seamlessly through one another listening and providing perfection that is and forever will be Nickel Creek. Welcome home. We’ve been patiently awaiting your return.
Today I dedicated this song (the original NC version) for my husband who passed away 4 years ago. The lyrics have all the meaning that I wanted to tell. It's now a timeless gem in music and nobody does it better than Nickel Creek.
Just saw them in Sandy, Utah. Just a fabulous group of musicians. The feelings their music shares and the joy they show in playing together is such a gift! Thank you!
Just to be perfectly clear: Nickel Creek == solid gold. I'm waiting to spend my money on your shows. Don't leave it on the table. And thank you so much for the video.
Hello Nickel Creek! We're brand new to your music after somebody compared our sound to yours. After watching this video we realise what an incredible compliment that was, and we're now officially your latest cast-iron fans. Everything about this is utterly beautiful and we're so delighted to have been introduced to your group. Thank you, random Reddit guy!
After all these years, still beautiful, but with the additional warmth and depth of a fine Martin as it ages. Thank you to all three of you, and to Tim O'Brien for the tune.
It’s sad that Live From Here was cancelled. I loved that show. Great artists and funny. We need this music and that show to come back. A way to get talented people noticed. I realize Nickel Creek has been around for 30 years. I saw them in the late 90s when you could sit mere feet away.
And they would step away from the microphone to stand on the edge of the stage and sing a couple songs with no electronics at all. The audience had to hold our breath in order to hear them. An interesting exercise in "this is the way it used to be".
They are all wonderful - both their artistry in their instruments and voice have become better with age - like fine wine; though unaware nickle creek have long been companions to my wife and I's road travels. Welcome companions :)
..this is my favorite song that this superb, gifted bluegrass trio does & actually one of the very best I've ever heard.."period." I certainly want to see 'Nickle Creek' in person someday.
Truly one of the greatest songs ever! Nickel Creek had a huge impact on me, my family and so many friends over the years. Saw them live at The Wiltern in LA. So fun to see them together!

God BlessYou for Everything Regaurdless of eachothersPlaces in Time Peace God BlessYa ... Carry On
When this came out, I’d just adopted two kids, lost one job (housing crash) and started another that put me on the road, a lot. This song was how my girls traveled with me in my heart, as I crammed through work between flights in airports and in interchangeable hotel rooms, this song was my unspoken prayer to them as I drove alone down countless highways, dirt roads and back streets, hundreds of miles away. This, they never knew.
I took my wife to see them at the Pabst theater in Milwaukee Wi. In 2005,her 40th B-day, when I first met her she had lost most of her self esteem due to a abusive relationship, while in that relationship she had a son and hoped things would change, but after giving it a couple years she realized she had to get out of it for not only her son but her very life, when she explained every thing she went through I knew I would have to be there for her and give her some space to heal emotionally and get her to trust in me and to Love herself again, it was a hard road for us both, after about 6 years of living together we decided it was time to think about getting married, she still had trust issues from her Hellish relationship so many years back, this song came out about the same time she turned me onto this song and after holding on to each other every time it came on,I knew she finally opened her self up to be able to trust in the ability to Love herself and those around her, we've been together now for 30 years, and married for 23 years, so this song is a very special song for my wife and I, as well as her 36 year old son, but he probably wouldn't admit it, he's not much into folk music, thank you, Nickle Creak, for helping me bring out her beautiful soul, and to trust in love again ✌❤🙏
Your music invokes such sweet memories in my life. I raised my 3 children on your music. They are all grown now, and your music is still playing on their Playlist and their hearts!! I am so glad that I live in a world with your music in it. Thank you so much for using your gifts. It has touched so many!!!
Wonderful! My daughters & I saw Nickel Creek ages ago. We sang your music often. Thank you for the good times and for helping us grow. Love to see you again!
This is life... have followed and seen these folks separate of each other but nothing can compare to the magic they create together. Gosh, I hope there is more of this wonder and stardust in the future. Some things just shouldn't been denied... lots of love to you all
They were together for this stream as they were writing new music for an album without a release date yet, but hopefully in the nearish future. I imagine there will be some shows to support it.
They have never failed to give a stellar performance. Sean’s guitar work is always so damn good too. These three are truly underrated and very so!! I live in Texas and anytime I mention them very few ever know them and it blows my mind.
First time I saw you guys was at the Durango Meltdown and I stood in the back talking to your moms, who had to accompany you because none of you were old enough to rent a car yet. A large chunk of the festival-goers were just following you from one venue to the next and ignoring the rest of the groups. Last time was in Pagosa Springs, right before you broke up. It's great to see you playing together again.
My fingers stumbled across this song while I was practicing a shipload of sea shanties for an upcoming gig. This tune was so ingrained in my subconscious that I just started playing it (for the first time) halfway through "Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her." It was such a pleasant surprise to see this very recent performance and a humbling reminder of how the three of you are truly masters of both instrumental and vocal nuance. The way you interchange with one another is astonishing! Thank you all for your dedication and timeless contribution to the world's soundtrack.
My old girlfriend Rebecca was from Murray and introduced me to y'all 20 years ago. We followed yall to some shows in my drafty old VW bus. This really brings back the memories and feels. It's great to hear you play again!
On the various playlists on the various devices that I have in my life, there is only one musical group that surpasses Nickel Creek in the number of songs on those playlists, and that is the Beatles. I'd say that puts you in pretty hallowed company! Your music has been and continues to be significant in my life. And THIS is one of my favorites. Music is such a gift. Thank you for sharing your gift with me.

I almost forgot how much I love, love, love this song. Great version!
I didn't survive this. I missed you guys so much.
Oh, you beautiful people. Thank you so much for reprising your classic. Blessings from Australia.
Best suggestion I've had in my feed in quite a long time.
Your music invokes such sweet memories in my life. I raised my 3 children on your music. They are all grown now, and your music is still playing on their Playlist and their hearts!! I am so glad that I live in a world with your music in it. Thank you so much for using your gifts. It has touched so many!!!
Well, that just completely reset my nervous system. Chill, calm, and missing this so much. I hope we get to see you tour again.
Some things just shouldn't been denied... lots of love to you all
Michelle Giorno, try Mandolin Orange if you haven't already done so by this time. Kinda the same. Sorta.
O please please let there be more coming!! New music and a tour!! Your music has always been so beautiful.
They were together for this stream as they were writing new music for an album without a release date yet, but hopefully in the nearish future. I imagine there will be some shows to support it.
Still impeccable. Thank you!
Beautiful , thank you . I never pressed play so fast . ..
I wish I would've paid for the live version. This brings back so many memories.
Back in my day a song this great would have been all over the radio and sitting on top of the billboard charts.
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH... BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES...
Wonderful harmony. I'm really happy to hear the performances of the three people again. from Japan.
i’m gonna cry i love you guys ;(((
No words ... Just timeless. Mere mortals are we who have been touched by the divine.
Love you, Nickel Creek. Thanks for the music.
