Lift/launch system: Chain lift hill

Drop: 171 ft
Length: 3,830 ft

Inversions: 7
Duration: 2:30
Max vertical angle: 50°
Capacity : 1700 riders per hour

Upon exiting the station, the train immediately begins climbing the 188-foot (57 m) lift hill. Upon reaching the top, the train curves into the 171-foot (52 m) drop, entering the 140-foot (43 m) tall vertical loop. The train then turns a sharp left, entering two vertical loops and then climbing into the mid-course break run, followed by a zig-zag into the batwing (two connected diving loops, each is a mirror image of the other). Riders are photographed by the on-ride camera in the middle of this element. Riders then make a right turn and immediately enter the double-corkscrew, followed by flat track and two turns before hitting the final break run, then making a final turn before returning to the station.
Viper is the last of the three 7-looper roller coasters built by Arrow Dynamics to remain operating.

Everyone seems to hate on Viper because of its roughness. I love this coaster, it's such a classic and the last standing of the three 7 inversion arrow coasters! It really isn't that rough if you get on the first four rows.
FanThemePark I totally agree! As far as Arrow Loopers go, this is one of the best. As long as you keep your head back against the headrest, it will prove to be a nice ride!
Great American Scream Machine is a ride i truly miss. Now im hoping Cali would keep this one.
+MɨҡɛʏքօօɦɮɛaʀJaċҡsօռ Shockwave @SFGA as well
In the middle or front back is very intense yeah I think. Middle is better but back and front are very intense even when it
Rains rarely
DJ Infinity when I rode Viper for the first (and currently only) time I rode it, I rode front row right side. I found it smooth and no banging, my head was gently pushed to the side on the corkscrews. I found it kinda slow, but that was because I rode Goliath 1-2 hours before. It is my fav ride there.
I've always loved the sound of arrow chain lifts, it just sounds cool.
same
It's not really the chain. It's the anti-rollback device placed beneath the train. I love the sound of it, too.
Ty Swan I also love the sound of the anti-rollback system.
I agree
I know a lot of people don't like arrow's but, Arrow dynamics is probably my favorite coaster manufacturer.
I love how Arrow coasters always look quite pretty, smooth, and tame when once riding it, they're literally the polar opposite
Same goes for most vekoma rides.
L00PdeL00P's Channel Newer Vekoma rides are really smooth though.
Love this ride
Ant - O - Nee true but I’m still going on this it looks hella fun
@@zach8870 I wouldn't say that at all. Vekoma doesn't really care about quality. They probably just care about quantity.
If this were to get new trains with vest restraints, it would be one of my all-time favorite coasters.
I love how giant arrow loopers still used the same tiny inversion from the rides they produced in the 1970's
Viper is pretty rough being that it has existed for a long time, but it's still one of my favorites.
One of the best looping coasters ever.
Tatsu Viper It does look beautiful but it's not the best.
The drop looks insane!
Is it me or does this look IMMENSELY like the ride in Final Destination 3.
It's a high speed ride all they way, that thing is. And quite intense.
Four words.
This ride is HUGE!!!
Though I never rode it, I hope I do.
I LOVE VIPER 10/10 BEST RIDE EVER
One of my favorite roller coasters!
Sweet I get to look at this coaster with out adds slapped all over it. This is great ride
My goodness the MCBR on this sends you flying out of your seat, sometimes the trains feel a little faster and hitting that break run just throws ur legs into the air, i love it!!!!
I always love watching rollercoasters
this was an extremely pleasant suprise! usually i hate these coasters cuz they hurt my head, but this was very smooth and fast and i didnt bump my head! one of the best in the park!
I think your footage is awesome! There's already 500 POVs of Viper. Nice to see some high-quality off-ride footage!
I Effin LOVE THIS RIDE!!!
JonathanPosts I effin love you jonathan!!
Viper is work of art. Its beautiful. I love those Arrow sounds. Viper is one of the few last large Arrow loopers. Viper is joined by Vortex at PKI and Anaconda at PKD as the final 3.
best Viper footage ever!
awesome, the loopings looks fun
No Matter if this hurts or not' you guys are lucky to have this! It is the world's tallest and fastest looping roller coaster and it's the only Arrow Dynamics Mega-Looping Coaster left! Enjoy this ride cause it's special!
About 4,1g's. You can feel the intensity mostly in the front and backrow. I do love this classic ride!
i love it!
good footage!!!!!
I hadnt rode this ride in years, until today. It was actually very mild compared to the newer rides, but that is an understatement. In 1996 I remember it being scary lol
So awesome
💚Viper Forever💚
I love it.
man going up that loop after the first drop looks insane.
It is
That Mexican Grito in the beginning...
Hahaha
love this ride I go every sat
Rode this last week. It's still a great classic ride. Yeah, it's bumpy, but it's not THAT bad! Ride it while you can, it will likely be gone in a few years.
i went on this ride today with my school i closed my eyes for half the ride and now that i watch this video i think did i really freakin go on that
totally agree !!
The mariachi music in the background ❤️
all of that classy Mexican music in the background made this so much better
Sweet mother of god, that drop is HUGE.
It does, but it is actually was Corkscrew at Playland in Vancouver, BC.
Even though this ride sucks now due to roughness and being slowed by trim brakes, I will be sad if/when they tear it down. My friends and I as kids spent so much time riding this over and over, nostalgia
When I was there a while back it was closed they were fixing it.... I guess its back now... But the X2 was freakin awesome...! =)
One of my favorite rides but my favorite is either lex Luther drop of doom or tatsu!
Have you guys heard of the old shockwave at six flags great America, it looks exactly like this except the shockwave is blue
Not exactly like it: shockwave had a left u-turn, then the lift, viper doesn't; shockwave had that infamous "curve of death" before the mcbr, viper has an airtime hill before its mcbr. Other than those, they are pretty much the same, except I've heard shockwave was way too intense and rough, and this one has been smoothened out one time, this making it a more enjoyable ride for guests.
It is blue instead of the red but Shockwave has a slight difference than Viper.
It's very smooth depending on where you sit. Front is the best obviously, the back I almost blacked out.
I want to go on this so bad since its the last of the 3 arrow megabloopers, but I live in Wisconsin.
The music at 1:46 really fits the ride’s theme
0:33 holiday road is playing in the background
This ride started the looping coaster wars
Yes at the bottom of the batwing.
@coastercrutchfield he im going there this summer AND IM FREAKIN SACRED to go on X2 and tatsu do you know what ride to ride on first or like how to face my fear
this ride is cracy
This was the 1st ride I went on when I first went to six flags in 2009; I kept on bumping my head on the sides and didn't like it at all, but other than that it was a pretty awesome ride.
@YesYou123333 Also they use that Cathaloid loop as another hill as well, so you need just enough speed to get to the top of the loop and then when you go over the Apex/top of the loop it is all down hill as if it were a hill!!! plus it is more comfortable then a perfect circle loop and it will not cause massive neck injuries!!!
this ride looks so awsome this is the one of the ones i wanted to ride when we were there before we left but we had to leave already so i didnt get a chance to:/
@Rockr21190 Actually, what has been classified as a "Arrow Mega-Looper" is the 7 inversion coasters. If going by your standards then there is also Viper at DL
I went yesterday and it hit your head a lot
But it's still fun
yeah with them building that new record breaking loop coaster next year, they're probably gonna tare this down in the future;since it wont have one of the record highest loop anymore
You can't beat classic coasters like this in my opinion..
this is a ride i wanna ride
@lampshades120 i know, right! alot of people dont appreciate viper. i love it as well. I got tickets last spring that let you stay an hour after the park closed and i got to ride this in the front row, in pitch darkness with noone in the train!
actually Viper is their most popular that isn't going anywhere for a long time.
@gillhajr01 no its not. the one they filmed it on is in Vancouver BC, Canada. It's called Corkscrew and its at Playland PNE. Search behind the scenes of final destination 3 and you'll see.
Does it actually break after the first loop?
Really good footage!! But (at least in my opinion) this ride hurts like hell.
Fun ride. Only complaint is its a bit bumpy. I remember getting on this and my ear bleeding when I got off its a rough ride. Trick is to keep your head back the entire time & try to keep it stiff & still so you don't get smashed around lol
That's true. But eventually, when Viper becomes too rough to ride, I'd rather see it retracked than torn down (like GASM and Shockwave).
@IronwolfSFGAm1
There is also Anaconda at PKD and Vortex at PKI. Viper is the largest though.
What could be done to make it less rough?
Is this ride bumpy like other custom looping coasters like The Demon and stuff?
Enjoy Viper. I have a feeling it does not have many years left.
My head always hurts on this ride really bad, but I like this one cuz everytime I go there is no line xD!
On the other hand, this rollercoaster is perfect to start loosing fear to the other bigger ones :) after this one is more easy to handle scream, golliath or tatsu! well thats from my experience!
They'll probably keep this. It isn't super prone to breaking down, meaning it's relatively cheap, and it's among Magic Mountain's trademark coasters. And, it's the only remaining Arrow megalooper. Meaning that tearing it down might make a lot of coaster enthusiasts unhappy.
Did u take a lot of this footage in line for X2?
oh wow how busy was x2
When I went on the 26th of august it was empty I went through the flash pass thing because there was no line :D
It's the tallest, but not the fastest. The fastest multi-looping coaster is Stormrunner at Hersheypark. Still, your point is valid. It still looks like a great, classic coaster. :)
we have Almost the same exact coaster with the same exact name here in Buffalo N.Y. at Darien lake built in 1983
Brian Spellbergio Does it go 70 mph?
Vekoma (or even S&S, who bought Arrow and still make their 4th-Dimension coasters) should have a service where they re-track aging Arrow coasters and fix the bad transitions.
This is not a custom Looper, they are mega loopers and 2 others existed but they have been since demolished.
The ride appears to be well maintained
Can I use this footage for my next video? I will give u full credit
Yes
how tall you have to be im going to sixflags on june 28 2013
I live in holland. it's my dream to go here and ride it. I love SFMM!!!
@FreakingFreakyfied yeahh trim breaks they put them there because it used to go too fast.
god, how many g's are you pulling on those loops?!
that rollercoaster is actually in vancouver
@SovietSPF1 I believe it's because an oval doesn't require as much speed to keep the riders in their seats. If the loop is a perfect circle the speed required in order to keep them in their seats at the top of the loop would make the riders uncomfortable during the first half of the loop. Too many G's would be required.
Should I go on viper if my largest drop is 104..?
Why U No HD> FIRST!
by the way if anyone knows, how are the crowds at Cedar Point from now to Oct.30th.from 1 being none,to 10 bieng PACKED
I hope they don't take it down, it's one of my favorite rides at magic mountain!
same i was like yeaah, were not riding that again. ahahaha
Do not take down Viper. It's the last of its kind. And what could the park possibly do if they did replace?
@IronwolfSFGAm1 You're right. They took down Great American Scream Machine recently. I was sad. I think I even cried (I"m obsessed with coasters) Now I"m on the west coast for college and I wanna go there so before they think about taking it down. IDK why people hate it. I love the corkscrew design coasters by Arrow Dynamics. they're like my classic favorites.
I sooooooo Want to ride this I love Vortex At King Island and this looks like the vortex on steroids!!!LOL!!! and that is a VERY Smooth coaster!!! But this one is defanately on my bucket list!!!
As soon as I got off, my head head was aching :T but its a fun ride c:
Can that first loop get any smaller? lol
This is the Fing coaster they filmed final destination 3 on!!!
@djlowtek Yeah, the only things taller than Viper at sfmm are X2, Goliath, and Superman: Escape from Krypton.
Why does it have the same logo as the one in six flags great america yet they are nothing alike?
It's a six flags thing... That's their logo for any "Viper" roller coaster they have; wooden, steel, Schwarzkopf, any coaster under that name gets that iconic logo.
@fourquarter Six flags great adventure has removed 13 roller coasters, which Is equal to the amount they have in the park right now. Us at Six Flags Great America have lost 7 coasters.
