I've got the "AKG C214" which is for me better than i need. I love this microphone. Design and sound. It's the replica of AKG C414 without the multi directionnal option which is the signature of this mic. I'll buy, soon, the AKG C1000s MKIV, to record my acoustic guitar.
It's really impressive how clear and articulate the tops were while maintaining a beautiful body on the lower side of her voice. Drums sound nice and full without being overly bright, Amazing mic!
@@ArthurStone got one too, I love it, it’s always near the top of the pile when shooting out mics for any given singer, unless they are going for a totally different vibe.

Lovely version beautifully arranged & performed! Katie has such a great easy listening voice. I like the way she sings the song & doesn’t use the end of a line to launch into a scale run like many singers do to show off their ‘technique’
You made that look absurdly easy. That mic sounds phenomenal and doesn't cost the earth either. The drums on 3 mics and capturing that amazing sound!!!!!!!!!!!
I've not downloaded any of these, but something in the balance, not to mention Glyn John's, and Katie's deceptively full voice, and resounding all round performance credits, and now I want to have a play, too. Downloading! Isn't this brilliant? Have fun, music is the best 😍
Very nice version of one of my very favorite classic songs!!! I still remember hearing an Italian version in a Pizza shop many years ago. Time to get a Hammond in your studio although the Nord sounds good it's not quite the same as the real thing which is the most significant part of this song. I'd love to hear a comparison of the JZ with a real C12!!! Thanks for sharing Warren.
"With its Bach-derived instrumental melody, soulful vocals, and unusual lyrics, the music of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was composed by Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher , while the lyrics were written by Keith Reid." - It's based on Bach, right in the heart.
Sounds like another winner for JZ! I adore my V67s, and I'm mighty tempted by the new V12! They do an amazing job of capturing the essentials of the tone on these traditionally tube mics in an easy to work with +48v phantom power format.
Dude...holy s&%t. I've been waiting to hear that Cadac for like 3 years, and it was WORTH IT! They don't make em like they used to. That sounded amazing paired with those mics. Dare I say I liked it better than ahem....nevermind. It sounds GREAT. I'd be using that thing all the time. And great musicians BTW. Great job. Love it.
Hey sorry to bug you, but do you know if that version of Cadac is discrete, or uses IC's? Model #? The thing that struck me? It's width when you mixed the tracks. Very 70's British sounding, very wide like a Trident. Or EMI a little. I've only really heard that on width on Trident though. Not sure why it does that, but super cool man. I noticed immediately when the mix played. Like "WOW, now THAT sounds different."Thanks again!
Great sound and recording. My favorite is Warrens own version, but everyone on this version is great. My main mic collection is Neumann U67RI, Chandler REDD, CM7 Wunder, Shoepps MK4 ST PR, TLM 103, SM7B. Drum mics and misc. other mics. I just need to keep practicing on getting the best sounds out of these with my Shelfords, Portico II, Burls stuff etc. With all this Equipment, I can not get anything close to Warren using anything he's testing out. I'm just going to keep playing and learning. I'm part of the academy but need to get involved and join in.

Whiter shade of pale by Procol Haram. I would suggest anything by Van Morrison for the wine date vibe. And of course Frank Sinatra and that sort of thing. You just can't go wrong with Van Morrison and this song sounds like one that he would have wrote tbh, but he didn't.
It’s a Pink Floyd technique, amongst others and used low it pushes the vocal forward. Obviously, as it’s used by so many great mixers and producers I’m not going to agree with you that it sounds bad. If you don’t understand how to use the effect in a mix like many mixers do, it doesn’t make it bad.
@@Producelikeapro Thank you for the explanation. I was not saying that it is bad only my taste is to have clean vocal particularly in such an acoustics song. Anyway big thank's for your work.
Instruments sounds very nice but I feel the vocal is very muddy and saturated at the same time. Hard to understand clearly her nuances. Kinda “overtubed” in an Avalon type feeling or old tube muddying on the higher mids. Just my opinion from a quick listen..
I guess I'm the only one but I (after having checked the multitrack) don't think v12 sounds really good on her voice. There's weirdness going on at around 1k. Or is this the vintage fatnesseveryone's raving about? I'm not joking. I'm in the market for a new condenser mic and really want to love either v11, v12 or v67 but I'm not all that impressed with v12 right now.

Really wish you'd included isolated vocals through a clean preamp. Difficult to make out what she's saying, probably because of the dip around 2 kHz. In place of "silkiness" and "fullness" her voice sounds a little harsh and disjointed, even later when played in isolation but with effects. Like the concept behind the microphone (tube microphones are a hassle) but not loving these examples.
Great performances and a good demo of what the mic is capable of. Great stuff, Warren. The style of singing these days is very annoying, people sing like a drummer who‘s only playing breaks and fills…I wanna scream at them: „Just sing the godamn song!“ No hate here, Love! Maybe I‘m too old!🤣
