The JZ just kills the Shure SM7. Wow, huge improvement.

I love the low end on the Amethyst especially
Love the sound of that mic, not as bright as the shure especially with the eq switched but I'd love that Amethyst in the studio for my vocals
I like the JZ sound, it's more soothing and relaxing to listen to. The Shure with the filters sounds a bit ringy in the midrange. It's way past bedtime so that probably plays a role :-p
As always, great video.
JZ sound have great character 🔥, and more detail. I think one wouldn't need more EQ on it

Good presentation, comparing to the Sm7 really gave me a good bench mark for the Amethyst.
Great job. Just what I needed. I'm from Arkansas but just moved to Latvia and have been eyeing this mic. I have the SM7b and wasn't sure if I should stick with my c214 or go JZ. Now I will def buy JZ.
Yeah, I've been enjoying my Amethyst even more than the SM7b for voice lately. There are still places where it's good to have a dynamic mic like that, but if you like the fullness of the SM7b but want the detail of a condenser, it's a great option. Hope you like it! They have a 30 day return policy too, so definitely worth trying.

@@SonicScoop I like my SM7b for live stuff. For pro recordings I would never use a dynamic.

I have 2 questions:
Is the Amethyst a "hot mic", as in picking up a lot easily, or are you using a strong pre-amp with relatively high gain?
What pre-amp are you using for both mics, here?

wonder what the SM7B sounds like with just the upper mid boost, bet sounds closer to the JZ Amethyst with that smooth low end! The Amethyst is really nice though ! ! !

I chose the Procaster, cause the price difference to the SM7B was something I couldn't justify with the sound difference being what it is. But this Amethyst sounds amazing compared to the SM7B, it's a whole different level.
those switches make the SM7B sound like a tin can
To my ears the jz sounds quite woolly in the bottom end which I’d imagine you’d probably have to roll off in a mix, whereas the sm7b with its narrower frequency response would cut through a dense mix without as much fiddling. Perhaps I’m wrong though 😉
The un-filtered Shure SM7 you hear slightly later in the video has a bottom end that’s a bit closer to the sound of the JZ. In the very first audio clip of it, I have the Shure’s low rollof engaged, because that’s the way I use it in the podcast.
This JZ definitely has a very nice full bottom end, especially when up close, which can either be a major benefit, or something you want to reel in a bit, depending on the context and what you want out of the sound.

I thought the SM 7B sounded THIN at first!!!! LOL Now I know why!!!! :) My U87 is brighter than this JZ mic!!! I´m thinking of buying a V67, which sounds somewhere in between my U87, and SM 7B.

Ever since I had a kid, all I do is:
1. Never cut it anymore because ain’t nobody got time for that.
2. Brush it once and then tie it up in the morning.
It’s lowest maintenance hairstyle possible for men next to “none”.

What headphone do you use? and do you do any mastering on it?

Why in hell would you compare the Violet with the SM7??
1. Because it was there.
2. Because I was evaluating it for the purposes of using it on spoken word for my videos and in podcasting applications. That’s also why I compare it to a lav.

Much as i like the 87 this is creamier in the lower end....hmmmm
The exact same frequency curve as their Vintage 67... Hmmm?
Exactly the same? No. Somewhat in the sane kind of ballpark? Sure. Definitely beefier than a lot of modern condensers in a similar way, but not a replica by any means.

The sm7 b is way more smooth and sounds better for me. Condenser mics always have too much sss ttttt shhhh.
