Ya love to see people still using li ion batteries still keep building …looking great 🔋🔋🙌🏾

Something magic about the little 18650s and with then still used in abundance it is hard to keep my hands of them😂 Li-Ion does not have the best reputation or track record but makes it more of a challange:) Part of what I am doing is for my own development (learning my doing) so thought a good staring point:)👍🏻

18650’s on a boat? Are these NMC or NCA? LFP would be the only Li-ion most would trust on a boat. Just found the channel so I don’t know if you have discussed the 18650 format and the chemistry but the 14s is usually NMC (3.7v) vs the less dense but safer LFP at 3.2v nominal.
    Why not prismatic LFP?

Morning Jim - Big thank you for taking the time to respond. The 'primary' battery pack intended for the boat is 'Prismatic LFP'. This 'secondary' pack consisting of Li-Ion 18650 was born from my fascination of recycled 18650 and me wanting to be hands-on through the process of building a parallel pack (and learning from the process). I totally acknowledge the volatile nature of Li-Ion, so unless I am 100% happy with the outcome, after precautions taken, (fire proof box etc.), there is a chance that this pack will never make it to the boat. I am constantly learning as I go along and that was the exact intention of starting to build the 18650 pack. Building a boat or battery pack from scratch makes very little sense from a financial/time perspective these days. unless the love for building/learning is the primary focus. :)

    Why does it look audiophile?

Thank you for comment, not sure I follow when you say Audiophile:) Please expand:)

Wow, cool set-up. I have a distrust of li-ion after an ebike caught fire while charging on my last boat. I ended up chucking the whole thing overboard, and recovered it once the batteries finished expending their energy. If something does go wrong with your pack, will you be able to get it off the boat quick?

This is my 'secondary' battery bank and a project I started just to get my hands dirty and 'learn the hard way':) - If I ever come to use this pack on the boat I will definitely keep it stored in a place where if a mishap it won't take the boat with it:) The primary bank is based on LiFePO4 prismatic cells which have a far better safety record:) What is your next big project on your boat? Guess that if I keep watching I will find out:)

@@modularhippo Oh, I see, I thought these were going to be for propulsion! I'm a huge fan of LFP batteries, I had them on my last boat and really appreciated how simple and robust they are.
Next projects around here: get the keel back on, and then re-install the mast with brand new rigging. I intend to be west of French Polynesia by this time next year, so my primary focus now is getting safety and structural projects complete.

@@himanakai - Wow, cool place, checked it out on Google. Can fully understand why you are heading in that direction:) - Being from Europe most stories are around Atlantic or the Mediterranean so the Pacific is uncharted territory for me:) - Not started with mast yet but probably be a Selden system or similar. One bolt at a time, working on upper keel bearings as the boat has a swing keel. Will be interesting to check videos for mast as I have some serious knowledge gaps there:)
