    I don’t know why they chose the locusts as the big threat instead of a specific dinosaur, they could’ve brought in the Troodons from “Jurassic Park the Game” as a parasitic threat that serves the same purpose.
    Dodgson’s plan in this movie is kind of a reference to the first novel where he tells the heads of Biosyn about how InGen could create little pet dinosaurs and have it so they can only eat InGen made pet food.

    • @platinum230
      @platinum230 2 года назад +35

      Man, JPTG Troodons are so underrated, easily the most disturbing species in this franchise. Can't believe they didn't even bother to bring them back at least once.

      I am not sure maybe slight defending but locust is already a pest and increasing it and just manipulating them to not affect biosyn crops can keep biosyn away from the whole disaster

      The big threat should have been finding out something crazy like all the way back at the beginning they had to patch the dino DNA sequences with something more than just frog DNA. Like....human? Just say that the whole DNA sequence falls apart and fails unless human DNA is added to the mix. Now there's a huge ethical issue because they're part human. And the longer they live, the smarter they get. Which would explain why the T-Rex has survived and evaded capture for so long. She's the oldest and had the most time to really start figuring things out. But BioSyn is still holding them hostage to force Wu to participate on their military contract to create the Homosapiasaurus. Kinda like the Indominus but MUCH more human and intelligent. Then the Homosapiasauruses pull a Skynet, become "self aware" and escape. That'd be better than locusts maybe..

    • @davidsavage5630
      @davidsavage5630 Год назад +5

      @@painpeko1259 I don't like that their endgame was locustsauruses but I WILL defend that dumb plot point on the grounds that it actually feels VERY true to Crichton's novels. It might not be the most awesome idea for a Jurassic Park movie but I'll be damned if it doesn't feel exactly like something that would be in an actual Michael Crichton book..

  • @samkershaw8474

    I still think a faithful adaptation of Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park, lends itself perfectly to be turned into a limited series on TV/streaming.

    • @BattleBrotherCasten
      @BattleBrotherCasten Год назад +8

      You do know the first film is what Crichton wanted..he was pushed by investors and had to write the books six times, they wanted it to be a gruesome horror book-my guess is Stephen King and horror was huge during that time. Crichton met Stephen Spielberg on their work together for a TV adaption of Crichton's Andromeda Strain, they became friends and eventually Universal won the bid for the film adaption and it was destiny that Spielberg directed it- it is obvious of the outcome that Crichton got his original vision. If you do your research you'll see his first script was focused more on kids and the awe of dinosaurs.

    Here is how Dominion could've been improved :
    Remove Masie's origin retcon entirely
    Show Blue attacking the hunters on screen like the scene in Fallen Kingdom without slow motion
    Before crashing into the frozen lake show Owen and Kayla Watts put snow gear on. ( Or keep it the same just show that Owen changed into something else after falling through ).
    Have Maisie with PTSD from the Indoraptor incident
    Give Owen Grady and Alan Grant's raptor conversation more lengthy
    Show the ship crew being attacked by the Mosasaurs ( like water filling up , some try to escape but get chomped )
    Show the LW Pterandons more up close and have the JP3 Pterandon fly getting recognized by Alan Grant
    Have Dodgson feel scared instead of casually trying to talk with the Dilophosaurus
    Include the deleted scene from the concept art showing the Gallimimus with a herd of deer at a lake
    Include the scene from the concept art showing the Mamenchisaurus and Gallimimus herd along in the valley
    When Zia and Franklin help Claire with the baby Nasutoceratops and they are escaping , show more of the Ceratopsians in the field ( Mainly Triceratops )

    I think the Lockwood plot hole can be explained this way.
    Charlotte wanted a child, so she cloned herself, I think that's the film's intention anyway, but it is not very clear.
    Maisie is still a clone, but like a birthed clone, not a test tube clone. So if Lockwood supported Charlotte's idea, Hammond and him could still have a falling out.
    The mental gymnastics required for this series could kick a raptor out a window.

    Obviously, the Extended Cut is better. Especially the prologue, the proper introduction of Rainn Delacourt and the scene where they explain why the locusts were created in the first place add so much important context that I can't quite fathom how they even considered removing them from the theatrical cut.
    Like all the other Jurassic-film, I like Dominion, but I would not say it is particularly great. Like you said, so much convenience (Alan and Ellie want to go to BioSyn: how convenient, that Ian Malcom works there and just happened to invite them. Delacourt kidnaps Maisie and Beta: how convenient, that the CIA is already looking for him, knows where he is and that Franklin is able to tell Owen and Claire).
    Here and there, there are amazing scenes (the Therizinosaurus, the bit where Giga and Rexy "argue" without fighting each other to death), but the biggest problem is that it really does not feel like "Dinosaurs live in our world" or "This is the end of the Jurassic-era" (which I know was never Colin's intention).
    If this series concludes, then the non-avian dinosaurs should either all be extinct again á la "we made a mistake we should never repeat" or the dinosaurs "win" and the humans get extinct. Or instead of movies, you make TV-shows where in each episode, people deal with dinosaur-encounters, Primeval style.

    I haven't heard from you in a while, it's good to have you back.
    My overall thoughts about the Extended Cut version of Jurassic World Dominion are...
    -The opening works much better with the prologue added back into the movie, plus the scene where Rexy ( the Tyrannosaurus Rex from the first Jurassic Park film ) crashes into the Drive-in theater. Even the exposition-as-dialogue news report plays much better after the prologue (when it is punctuated by the Mosasaurus attack at the end). The prologue also matches the film's conclusion, visually speaking (sunrise and then a sunset over similar terrain)
    - The editing feels less jumbled in some places, and some of the weirdest dialogue from the theatrical cut (Dr Grant's introduction) plays better now.
    - Dr Sattler and Dr Grant's reunion is better paced and more natural feeling. The scene prior ( Dr Sattler getting the sample from the locust) is a decent character moment and it leads into the Dr Grant + Dr Sattler discussion so much better. By the time we get to "are you coming, or what?" line, the whole scene just feels less hurried and that particular moment more "earned."
    - The additional scenes before Maisie and Beta's kidnapping give more context and also slow the first 30 minutes down a bit (in a good way).
    - The cowboy/Parasaurolophus scene in the beginning is made more tolerable, just because we get more information about what Owen is actually doing and who he is working with. Before that, it just made no sense at all why he was picking off an animal from its herd and taking it...somewhere? The action elements are still over-the-top, but it isn't as standalone feeling as an action beat.
    - I know it looked cheesy, but the lightning flash revealing Rexy's ancestor from the prologue was pretty cool.
    - Deleted scenes that were removed are now added back into movie.
    Overall, while Jurassic World Dominion isn't my favorite in the franchise and I still have gripes with the movie, the Extended Cut is slightly better than the theatrical cut.

    • @MrChristianDT
      @MrChristianDT 2 года назад

      I kind of see why they changed the opening, because the movie feels like it has multiple, disconnected prologues before the actual story starts & that feels kind of slow, albeit- I could not give a crap & am very happy with it all back in. Admittedly, showing how Biosyn got the T-Rex wasn't necessary, but was just an awesome scene in the first place. All the rest of the scenes they took out, though, I really don't get. They must have really been dead set on a specific runtime, or something, because no other scene in the extended version wasn't necessary.

    Think you nailed it. My only hope for Dominion is that it has set up something greater that is still to come. Now, I have not seen the extended cut yet, but I am not in a rush. I felt so let down from this movie. It hyped me up to be the film that I was subconsciously hoping to see, which you eluded too, and that was the "Planet if the Apes" but in Jurassic style. I have read the recent comments from Colin and it seems that this movie was all about giving the franchise different ways to go, and expand the universe so to speak. Which I guess I am grateful for. Time will tell I suppose. As for Dominion as a film itself, it is the lowest out of all 6 films in my opinion. My question to you would be, "Do you think it was negatively impacted by the pandemic?" I have not seen a lot of discussion on that. Anyways, I appreciate your content and look forward to future content.

    The reason Hammond and Lockwood got into a fight was because in 1995, Lockwood had the idea for human cloning to make InGen more money after the failure of Jurassic Park. Hammond hated the idea, then later in 2009, Lockwood covered up Charlotte’s genetic disorder by saying she died in a car crash and he cloned Maisie instead, which is what he told Eli Mills.

Still, it's not the worst thing that's come out of the franchise (Camp Cretaceous season 4 with his lame villain, boring romance and weird robots it's even worse than Jp3 and Dominion combined) or the worst movie of 2022 (it's not Morbius for God's sake). Also, if you compared with franchises like Terminator or X-men, whose last movies were a disaster with no sense, dumb ideas no one ask for and huge plot holes, Dominion's mistakes are way lower and gives at least a coherent ending to the franchise, no more no less.

      3 hours and nothing longer than that would be better, plus Jurassic World Dominion once had the nickname of “The Avengers Endgame of Jurassic” which is also a 3 hour film, so it would’ve been fitting if Jurassic World Dominion was also 3 hours long. Currently the film is just over 2 hours and 20 minutes if you exclude credits for the extended version, the theatrical version of the movie was 2 hours 15 minutes if you exclude credits btw. So for the extra 40 minutes in the extended version to make it have a 3 hour runtime, imagine if you filled up the majority of that runtime with mostly dinosaur based screentime, like giving Giganotosaurus a kill scene as one example, and there’s lots of other scenes you could do with that much extra screentime too, if that were to happen, you could balance out the human screentime, locust screentime and dinosaur screentime and you could technically give the dinosaurs more screentime than the locusts if those extra 40 minutes were mostly dinosaur based content, that way dinosaur presence in the film can be more noticeable, and less people will likely complain about the locust screentime as a result if we have more dinosaur screentime.

I don't hate the movie, it was enjoyable in my personal opinion, but they missed the point of the whole franchise, that coexistence between humans and dinosaurs conclusion came out too soon. Btw I do prefer the extended version of this movie as well, it was better indeed!

  • @jwac8800
    @jwac8800 2 года назад +2

    This film could have been its own trilogy.
    I think Fallen Kingdom should've been two films; the first covering the roundup and ending with the boat leaving Nublar. Then the next film goes straight into the Dino auction. The final shot of the Jurassic World trilogy should've been Blue barking over the sleepy California town. What a way to end the series and would've lead perfectly into a new trilogy of movies.
    The first of the Dominion trilogy could be about dinosaurs integrating into modern wildlife, being invasive to the natural balance of the world. The second could have covered the underground use of dinosaurs; animal fights, being used as circus entertainment, being put in illegal hunters safari's etc etc. And then the third deals with the locust plot.
    BioSyn/Dodgson could have been in the background at the start, pulling some strings, and gradually build up to become the real antagonists of the storyline.
    So much potential clunked into one film. Real shame they didn't spread it out.

All three talk about the missed potential and the major let downs of the film. Beaver talks about how some dinosaurs and characters didn’t work the way they should’ve. Klayton talks about how the films plot and story don’t fit with what previous movies have done. And Swrve talks about a lot of the smaller details that when put together really hold the movie down.

    17:25 The Unholy Thing is that Lockwood created the technology for Charlotte to clone herself, because she was intrigued by cloning Dinosaurs so much that she decided to have a child individually (probably because she just wasn't interested in boys or whatever). Hammond found out about her ambition. Lockwood defended her, because he loved his daughter more than anything. Hammond saw human cloning as immoral compared to dinosaur cloning. That's what ended their friendship. This would've been before TLW at Best.
    Charlotte lived on Sorna until the storm according to Dr. Wu, so when she left, before she conceived Maisie, she visited Ellie at her University and shared her idea. That's why Ellie spoke of her to Maisie, 'a few years after Hammond died...' in-universe, Hammond died after TLW. Meaning that Charlotte wouldn't have met Ellie until approximately after JP3, 4-5 years, after Hammond died, at the Most. Charlotte died 'nearly 13 years ago'. Dominion is set in 2022 in-universe, and 13 years ago was around 2009. It even said that in the video of Charlotte curing Maisie after she was born.
    Charlotte took her own life, but before she did die, she likely told Ellie about her success with having Maisie. As Ellie also says to Maisie that "she wanted you to have what she couldn't. A full life". Mills states in FK that he had been with Lockwood since college. He probably knew about Charlotte because, in the background of her videos, if u look REALLY close, it looks like the basement lab in Lockwood Manor in FK. Although Mills saying he was involved since college could've been a lie since he was the villain of FK. So he probably wasn't Lockwood's butler until after Charlotte died.
    If that's the case, which I think it is (I mean the way he takes to Claire at the start of FK is just the way a Villain would OBVIOUSLY speak), then when introducing Baby Maisie to Mills whenever he DID eventually become his butler, Lockwood took credit for cloning her and told Mills that Charlotte died in a car crash. Lockwood was only saying this because he was trying to protect Charlotte's integrity, so Mills would've just gone with it and kept it a secret until revealing what HE THOUGHT the truth was to Owen and Claire in FK.
    When it came to Dominion, Maisie had taken what Mills said in FK literally until Wu revealed the actual truth and that Maisie DID have a mother all along. Wu even says 'your grandfather never wanted anyone to find out'. This makes the most sense to me at least, whether or not you or anyone else agrees is fine by me, because the advantage of having a franchise as convoluted as Jurassic is that everyone is aloud to create headcanons to fill the gaps to complete the code! As Mr. DNA would say.
    As far as I'm concerned, this wasn't a Plot Hole OR A Retcon, simply put, a continuation of what we previously knew. If anyone thinks this cancels out FK's twist, not necessarily. Because Maisie believed she was a clone the way Mills had her believed, she released the dinosaurs because she felt she was connected to them as clones. Parthenogenesis, which is essentially a process of reproducing asexually, is technically a Type of Natural Cloning in the Natural World. Not only did Blue reproduce asexually at the time of Dominion, but so did the Scorpios Rex before her in Camp Cretaceous, Season 3. When Maisie finds out that she's a clone AND asexually reproduced, this means she technically has TWO connections to the Dinosaurs that NO other human can have.

    She thought that the prologue scene was actually set in the future! And that our hubris of bringing back Dinosaurs does ruin the planet to the point where things go back to primordial roots in a way - by the end of the film.

    I have an interesting theory/justification on how the inaccuracies featured within The Prologue work for the movie. A lot of the new dinosaurs seen in The Prologue ended up being cloned by BioSyn. BioSyn's whole goal was to study the immune system of the dinosaurs and use that for our own benefit, right? So the dinosaurs featured within The Prologue (that didn't live in North America 65 million years ago) can be species that just evolved over several million years and migrated to North America. BioSyn would then want to study these specific specimens immune system to see how they were capable of surviving several millions of years to when their ancestors went extinct. This can explain the Giga's osteoderms (could be used for display), why the Moros Intrepidus was so small, why the Iguanadon isn't all that accurate, why the Pteranodon and Nasutoceratops look exactly like InGen's etc... This could add to Giga being 'the ultimate apex predator' and making it a 'strong' dinosaur, especially if members of the species were able to evolve and survive all these years. It would also add to the battle it had with the Trex, as it would be a rare occasion for this to happen. This would add to the whole 'world' of Jurassic, making its history not exactly like ours, therefore (from a creative storytelling point), being more interesting. This could be another excuse to see different designs of these dinosaurs in the future. However, these inaccuracies could have been decided on just for the general audience to get a brief understanding of the Cretaceous era. I am very interested on Colin's thought process on making The Prologue and the decisions he made.

Yaz and Sammy at least had some buildup in the earlier seasons but their relationship going from platonic to romantic didn't add anything to the story and should've been done in season 3 after Yaz got the Scorpius antidote for Sammy. Putting them together in season 5 made it feel tacked on to help fill out an episode's run time and check a box instead of something that was deliberately planned and genuine. Honestly, agree with a lot of what you say. I didn't dislike the movie persay, but I did have issues wih it. Jurassic Park 1 worked so well because it was a condensed cast, with time to breathe between action scenes, and a clear understanding of where the story was going to with the plot. This movie felt far too fast pased, and wide spread, perhaps due to the old guard meeting up with the new guard, which I did enjoy. As on OG JP fan I loved they finally got Alan and Ellie together, especially as they only weren't together in JP3 because if they weren't, Alan wouldn't have had anyone to call for help on the satelite phone. I enjoyed seeing my favorite characters from the 90's come together, and be a part of this. You say Ian Malcom is the pivot point of the movies, and I see why, but he'll always be 2nd place to Alan Grant for me, he is the character that resonates so strongly with the original trilogy. I do agree with your comment about the dinosaurs being de-fanged. This is obvious that out of everyone in the movie, the only min character death was Dojson. Realized at that point that the movies had been watered down to an incredible degree, and tthe dinosaurs wereced to being used foor jump scares and chase scenes. and yes, there were a lot of convenient plot points.

    I have some ideas for dominion that if they wanted to do a two parter the first part should focus on dinosaurus in cities and national forests and where it focus that people are being hurt and hunted by these sinos running everywhere and theres a group who are hunting these dinos for profit and to just kill them by protecting their land and homes and thats when own and claire make the same group in dominion that we see with owen showing everyones badge and what they do is capture dinos to take them to another island aka isla sorna whicj will be shown in the last scenes of the movie and while they are going from cities grabbing teradons and quetz flying over big cities and grabbing people for food for their offspring, and also barry and his group going into neighborhoods capturing new raptors who were blues offspring but they look diffrent a blend of the original raptors and lost world coloration, and also stegasaurus creating their territories which are people back yards and attacking homes killing people in the mist of this rampaging dinos, and we then go to national forrests and we nick van owen and ian and we see timbo son where sadly timbo the og actor passed away we have his son who also has been trained by timbo about how to catch predators and being verry patient about it with their group of dino captures and the list to find carnotaurus which last seen was two carnos an adult and juvevinle, and t rex, allosaurus, and and a pack of compys who have grown 1 feet tall and are more dangerous, and we cut some scenes maybe 45 min each of them finding dinos capturing them tranqing them and also with ian nick and timbo son they also fight against the poachers who are killing these creatures for money or for sport, as all this comotion atracts the allos and carnos we see the carnos attack the paochers vilolently as they are in the red woods and owen takes note the carnos can change their body coloration with the back ground (these carnos are from the lost world book) and as our protaganist hear and big growl behind the group of ten men a big allosaurus and a juvenile barry turns fast to tranq it but the allo bites down kills barry and the juvenile attacks the group while we see the adult swallow barry and wee see his left leg torn off hitting the ground everyone runs as timbo son yells out remember the plan b if this happenes everyone follow me as they are using the terrain to their advantage even the poachers joining in and following the protaganist 5 people from our group fall into a crevace and also 6 of the poachers they are in a dark cave and they all loom up we see groups of people running and the allos right behind them we then hear some chrips as the group shines the flash kight in the dark area shiny balls or eyes pop out of rocks behind them a pack of 20 compys run towards tjem we hear gun shots and screams and we the compys biting their legs arma and face leaving behind the bite marks a green and yellowish saliva its reaction to their wounds start verry rapidly as they are running through the cave system ruahing their blood faster each one of them one by one 10 feet away from eachother slowing down getting numb and falling to the ground as they all look back the compys are right there and the compys ruah in they scream a blood curdling scream which fades to black, and lets say we capture them all somewhere near the end we see dodgson and he is checking out his new creations in what looks like a blend of a jungle and swamp but lets make this dodgson book character related and as he looks down we see the ginotosaurus (i dont know if we stay with the design but minimize the dorsal spimes and the big hump on the back) and on the other monitor we see the atrociraptors but they have quills and some feathers and the theri looks the same as in dominion, and we see the 2 t rex but on top of the walls we see captured tyrnats of the island as they roar we see a third t rex but this one has discoloration and some damage on its left leg its the baby from the lost world grown up and we close the scene as the camera pushes if their heads of the area we zoom out we see isla sorna and it blacks out with a voice over of the intercom saying new dinosaurus comming from the mainland in 1 hour.
    Thats a cool setup for the 2nd parter i have some ideas but ill wait if anyone wanta me to put more ideas lol

    I felt the same about both cuts. I think that there's just too much in the movie. Too many unnecessary characters, too many unresolved plot points, and not enough dinosaurs. I can't even say I like it more than 3 because of how poorly they treated Alan Grant in this one. I don't understand why they'd bring back a character that is a hero to so many people only to have him do nothing aside from what Ellie tells him to do. I also strongly dislike how they handled Wu. B.D Wong has spoken out previously about how Wu's roll was heavily cut down in the first film because 90s Hollywood wouldn't allow for a prominent Asian character, and that he was thankful to these films for bringing him back, only to have his entire character in the last film being him talking about how a younger white woman was actually the real genius and he can't even hope to replicate her work without her clone to help so that he can kill the giant bugs (Jesus Christ why is that the plot)

    YES! FINALLY! @KLAYTON FIORITI WE FINALLY SYNCED LOL! My god how I've been waiting for a reviewer/Jurassic Park fan to mention the change of concept from man vs nature (Jurassic Park trilogy until Jurassic World) to man vs man (Fallen Kingdom and Dominion) of the franchise. That is what I've noticed after I watched JW Dominion and I was like "is this how they'll going to go forward to?" and I'm worried that the next Jurassic World film they might going to over the line that we might see for the first time in the franchise on screen besides the plot of kidnapping from Dominion the next thing they might show us would be antagonists would actually kill someone. Good job mentioning that concept in this video and what a great review! 👍👍
