Yellow in art is often seen as the color of happiness, but it's also most often associate in an industrial setting as a means of caution and alertness. As it's so bright, it's been utilized for emergency vehicles in many countries, and also traffic signals as many would be familiar with. Hardhats and vests are most commonly yellow to communicate to others that construction is underway nearby, and Nintendo may have been trying to convey the feeling of "building and creation" through those universally associated signals.

The F-Zero codes are as long as they are because that's how the game is writing the levels. No actual data is being transferred when you put in a code, the game is addressing the code itself to know which elements to place where and so on.
16:00 Thanks for including my little curvy game, Jon :D - It was made right at release of GBG and totally gone under in the massive influx of GBG games at the time. It's so cool to have it finally featured in a video! It's a remake of the Czech game Zatacka also known as "Curve Fever" or "Achtung, die Kurve!" which was the main attraction on our ancient rec room PC at school back in the day as it allowed up to eight players on one screen simultaniously. Imagine having eight guys and girls cramped in front of a tiny CRT with one using the mouse and the other 7 somehow trying to reach their two dedicated keyboard keys! It's actually incredibly good and these days, there's online variants but it's not the same as having multiple people cramped uncomfortably close in front of a monitor :D
Hey, that's my Excite Bike Arena stage! I've seen too many art stages that fail as playable stages, or worse, don't even look good outside of thumbnails. (And less said about the RP and 18+ stages, the better.) Because of that, I made it my mission to contribute as many stages as I can that balance good design both visually and in layout. I've got 98 more. Well... I've made hundreds before, but sadly due to the 99 stage limit, I had to do some culling. Shout out to Tevlev and the TIN Gaming Discord for being an awesome Smash Bros. stage builder community and sharing all kinds of tips, tricks and tech. P.S. I've been making tracks in Climax since it launched on GBA NSO and the 30 track limit is becoming a problem FAST.
less we forget about Family BASIC on the Famicom where you were able to just code games on the console, and you can use the Data Recorder to not only save your programs in Family BASIC but a select few Famicom games supported saving via tape, a feature that ultimately never left Japan
You should really check out the Level editor in the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series, especially from "Mini-Land Mayhem!" and "Tipping Stars". It was even possible to recreate whole Levels from the main game with the Touchscreen. It always felt to me like a predecessor to Super Mario Maker
bought game builder garage day 1 but was so busy with other games i never really played it, glad to hear there's still a pretty active community for it!
I love Game Builder Garage in theory - but in practice, this is the first time I’ve seen anyone anywhere actually share the best creations in the game. Other channels that claim to do so mostly feature games with 1/10th the length and 1/10th the quality of these here!
A friend of mine used to be the submission moderator for LittleBigPlanet on the PS3. He said 90% of the games submitted were either recreations of levels from Super Mario games, ones about Nazis, or full of penises! But I'm surprised Nintendo never created a game akin to Spore, I think Miyamoto's take on that would have been fascinating!
I like how the original Legend of Zelda and Echeos of Wisdom started out as dungeon editors but in both times the developers thought it wasn't a very fun idea.
To this day the best level editor I’ve seen in any game is the one in Geometry Dash. It is theoretically possible to use that editor to recreate DOOM; people have already simulated 3D environments in it and the featureset is robust enough that it allows for a *lot* of creative freedom. I hope more games take a page out of that editor’s book going forward
This is such a wonderful and insightful video! Thank you so much for talking about our wonderful little GBG! it has such a beautifully dedicated community that's so full of talent and brain power! I recognize quite a few games in here! ❤❤ 16:26 I helped make (most of) the sprites for this game! 😄 It was made as a last hurrah game for a streamer me and a friend liked to watch.
I loved the dungeon editor in Link's Awakening because it never felt to me like it was supposed to be just a level editor, it's more of like a sidequest minigame where you get to choose how each puzzle and objective will be solved. The fact that each one is themed around a little goal makes it really cool, like you have the ultimate end you need to have, and it's up to you how you will go about it, it's different for every player.
30 Seconds into this video and already smiling. Always love your humor and delivery dude. Love GVG. Just got a better job and it’s time to join the Patreon finally. Y’all very much deserve it
I've been spoiled when it comes to level editors and UGC features by Levelhead. It's really hard to get invested when there aren't signals for contraptions or a marketing system for getting your content played.
I can be having the worst day possible like I am today, and just Jons amazingly positive attitude and awesome content always makes me happy. Keep up the fantastic work dude.
I haven’t played it much, but there’s this really good Zelda-esque dungeon creator named Quest Master. Even just the demo for the game offers so much, and the developers are always taking suggestions from fans! One of my friends is really into it and even recreated Koholint Island in the game.
It's not Nintendo, but I always loved the MegaMan Powered Up level editor. I had SO much fun experimenting and making weird levels, and was part of an online forum where people would all share the levels they made so people could try them out, it was such a fun time. And then yeah, Mario Maker kinda goes without saying lol. Those are the 2 level editors I spent the most time with.
Mario Maker was just fun, my favorite. Although I think I had more fun with the sequel just because I actually managed to get popular youtubers to play a nightmarish level of mine, so that was fun. lol

I prefer it to GBG. The programming is more limited and you really have to use every trick and optimize your code if you want to cram complex stuff on the screen but the sprite and sprite animation editor is still unmatched and you also have an easy to use tracker to create your music. Basically Mario paint but better. The sprite editor in GBG is soooo bare bones in comparison.
Although we will probably get more main series 2D Mario games due to the success of Mario bros wonder, I don't think Mario maker is dead, it is super popular especially because it has a great community and it is easy money for Nintendo because almost all assets used from old Mario games. Side note: Mario Maker 3 will probably have a Mario Wonder style, so the levels will only get better and more creative as the series goes on, so I can't wait to see what levels people make with all the unique enemies and maybe even wonder effects from Wonder
I made a links awakening dungeon for my gaming group a few years back as one of our competitions. It was really hard to strike the right balance but people enjoyed it. From that alone i don't think i'd enjoy a zelda dungeon maker really. Leave it to the professionals haha.
I made a ton of cool levels in Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini-land Mayhem. I just wish I could upload them somewhere because I know they’re pretty unique. I wonder if there’s a pretendo way to share them?

Cool!
it's basically a qr code before qr codes.... shorter codes would have missed all the info
The positive is that it also means you can transfer courses from original hardware to switch online if you're patient to enter the codes of course :p

Glad my Yellow Devil fight recreation made it on the GBG part. Really great video :D
