The capture card can only record 4K, not stream it. That's what it says in the product information on Amazon Scratch that, it actually just says it can passthrough a 4k signal. But stream 1080p/60.
Oh no other capture card review !!!! Jkjk seriously man your videos help me do my job at work !!! Have you review the blackmagic web presenter? Just got a couple of those at work don't fully know how to use them yet !
Despite being heavily into how video capture & compression works- I have never used a capture card (mostly because once I got a PC I stopped playing consoles altogether) Recently I bought a Nintendo Switch and was considering streaming/recording Smash Ultimate, this just so happened to be perfectly placed in my home page. My question is- how does the capture work when using OBS? - Do you record/stream normally but just have the capture card input setup as a "Video Capture Device"? - If this is the case then how does the uncompressed vs compressed format work? Will it have to be re-encoded using OBS (I think you might have answered this in the video) Thanks, good video.
Yep! Comes in as a Video Capture Device just like a webcam. And yeah I explained the difference in the video - MJPEG/compressed means your CPU has to decode the incoming footage before being added to your OBS scene and then re-encoded again.
@@EposVox Alright just had to make sure- at first I was like "Uncompressed? Aren't the file sizes going to be massive?" but I get it now. Considering purchasing it now :O
Yo, so it looks like they have a whole product line including some that also do pc-free recording at like only $20 more. It would be interesting to compare/contrast them.
Great video as always! Liked! Regarding the streaming capabilities, is it possible to set an RTMP? If not direct what about re routing it from VLC to a Custom RTMP Server? thank you! :)
You can't set it to RTMP, no. Only specify a port from your local IP for it to be broadcast from. But you could probably re-route it from VLC to there, if VLC has such an option, sure.
Alright. I got to get this at some point. Just the multiplatform support was good enough for me, but the fact this could help me record upscaled ps2 on the old ps3 I bought about a year or 2 back rocks.
I have a 2015 MacBook air, with Catalina. I want to record and stream gameplay off obs, I tried Elgato and that didn't work, so I am a little hesitant to buy this one. I know you tried it on a Macbook Pro but do you think it would work with my computer?
Hey, thanks for covering all new capture cards! I was wondering if you know of any solution that allows for external 4K60 capture? The only way I could think of is by utilizing a Thunderbolt 3 interface for speeds but there doesnt seem to be a market for it... yet.
Hey EposVox, in there future is there any chance of you testing capture cards' compatibility with off-spec HDMI signals? As a sometimes-retro-gamer, I'm interested in playing SNES games upscaled by an OSSC but have heard many capture cards have trouble with this specific combination. Something to do with the SNES not having a true 60 Hz signal.
You mention it's a UVC device, does that mean it would work with Skype, Google Duo and stuff like that on pc? Right now I use an Elgato HD60s with my Sony A7S as my webcam and that's great for obs, but apps like Skype don't detect it at all. Makes me wonder then if I replace the Elgato with this little device, would my camera setup then be detected as a standard webcam?
If the game is captured in YUV2, what is the file format - extension? I want to end up with an h.264 mp4 or mkv file that will play on common hardware video players without having to do a lengthy re-encode.
Second! DAMMIT I WAS SO FUCKING CLOSE Anyway, so this is really good, but doesn’t do what it’s named after? But really though, if you look at the Amazon page, it never claims to be a 4K capture card, just a 4K passthrough device. Shame it can’t do 4K60p, but technically they haven’t lied.
(Just for clarity in case someone takes this seriously: I'm well versed in HDMI 2.0 vs 1.4 spec and have upgraded ALL of my cables for HDMI 2.0 capable speeds and 4k60 display/capture over HDMI is part of my daily workflow. That's not actually the problem. I tested it with the same cables that allow 4k60 through plenty of other devices.)
EposVox mate maybe it is something related to the capture card's firmware? Not the recording software but the software that runs on the capture device itself, firmware.
Not sure if you have more than 1 of these capture cards to test this but... Can more than 1 be used simultaneously? My specific situation would be 2 of these, with 1 HD60 Pro. Would it work? And what type of CPU/GPU power would I need to make it work?
Typically speaking - most drivers can cooperate enough for it to work - but I don't have more than one of this one to confirm for certain. Might be worth trying to contact CA to confirm just in case they respond. (Or ask a question on the Amazon page.) As long as you spread out what USB busses they're on (or use MJPEG), whatever system you have that can handle the HD60 Pro should suffice.
