  • Another day, another storm. (or so it seems!) Storm Franklin hit the UK overnight between 20th and 21st February 2022, with the strong winds persisting well into Monday 21st. This video shows the second arrival of the day at Bristol Airport, an Aer Lingus A320 landing from Dublin, Ireland. As you can hear in the air traffic control communications, the wind was reported as from 260 degrees, at 29 knots (33mph) with a max of 34 knots (39mph). Certainly enough to cause some difficulties as you can see in the video. ✈️ Looks like the crew hit some windshear just before touchdown. Notice the rudder inputs as the pilots try to straighten the aircraft up with the runway. As always, the pilots displayed excellent professionalism and got the aircraft down nicely in the end. 😀
This was flight EI296/EIN296 from Dublin landing at 07:36am. Aircraft is EI-GAL, a 13 year old Airbus A320. 😊

A strong, gusty wind from Storm Franklin caused some difficulties for this Aer Lingus A320 landing at Bristol airport early this morning (21st February 2022). Hope you enjoy the video, if you did please don't forget to leave a 'like' by clicking on the 👍 below the video player! Thankyou 🙌

Great work by pilot; held his/her nerve despite wind shear 👍. Good you didn’t muffle the wind noise on the video, as it adds to the drama!

Absolutely! 👍 I know what you mean, glad I got the wind audio right, not too windy but not cutting it out completely 😅 Thanks for watching. 👌

0:42 Nice example of Pilot Induced Turbulence :D At 0:49 he is kicking the Rudder much too hard, just to overcorrect the rolling moment caused by the rudder input ...

Super video, excellent work! Quite challenging situation in such stormy wind. But Irish pilots certainly know how to handle it. Huge like from me!

Pilots don't earn their money sitting there with the auto pilot switched on. They are paid the big salaries for their skills in handling situations like this.

We’ve seen loads of go-arounds in far less turbulent conditions than this! That guy was determined to get it down, but I bet there were more than a few jangling nerves in the cabin.

I know what you mean! He was determined 😂 I really thought he was going to abort. True! Thanks for watching! 🙌😀

You do a go-around when you know it is going wrong. It is not a matter of being "determined" - in the training phase the CFI will spot those students early because they are dangerous.
