CROSSWIND & BIRDSTRIKE! easyJet A321neo Landing at Bristol Airport (With ATC)

Strong crosswind + seagull on the runway = tricky day at the office! 😵 This easyJet Airbus A321neo (G-UZMF) was arriving at Bristol Airport at 11:28am on Monday 19th December 2022 from Geneva (U26150/EZY51WR). There's barely been a knot of wind in the south of the UK for the coupe of weeks, with two high pressure systems blocking the typical winter low pressure systems battering the UK. But that all changed overnight on 18th/19th December when strong winds once again returned, blowing right across the runway at Bristol. 💨 The crosswind alone made this a fairly dramatic landing, but shortly after landing the pilots reported they may have hit a seagull! 🛬 Airside Operations acted quickly and confirmed the remains on a seagull had been found on the runway. It's quite hard to spot the bird approaching the aircraft on the footage, but you can clearly see it falling to the tarmac after the impact. The remains were cleared and with the help of the fire department giving the runway a quick spray, it wasn't long before movements could recommence. The runway was closed for 20 minutes before EZY72MV/U26189 could depart to Pisa. 🛫 All very well handled and a safe outcome. 🙌 Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications are included. 📻

RIP Gull: I can see approach to Bristol from home. Gulls above me have been struggling with high gusty winds and bursts of torrential rain all day. That’s an impressive response to a bird strike on tarmac 😮 Good catch - and hope your wet weather gear kept you warm!
