I flew Emirates a few times over the last years and Singapore Airlines for the first time this year. I prefer Singapore Airlines by far. The crew is more professional on Singapore Airlines imo. Changi is overrated though and I might even prefer DXB but it’s close. Additionally, SA offers free wifi now which is a huge bonus to me. Moreover, transit times are much shorter if you fly Singapore Airlines compared to Emirates (at least where I am flying from). Personally I don’t mind with the plastic boxes. After a 10h+ flight I am not hungry anyway so a small box/snack is fine for me.
Great review as always!!! I've had mixed experiences with Singapore. I flew from Singapore to Tokyo after doing the London to Singapore leg and I purposely didn't have anything to eat in Singapore. I think it's a seven hour flight from Singapore to Tokyo but they only served a breakfast right at the very end of the flight and when I wanted some wine to put me to sleep when I first boarded, it didn't arrive... I was hungry and moody. Emirates always serve a full meal and a light meal even on seven hour flights. I will probably fly Emirates the next time.
I’ve flown Air Canada trans Atlantica few times and liked it, you can find video’s on this channel. It’s a similar experience to the London flight. Great product!
oh boy, those airport/mall meals are the best! :D prawns for brekky? that weird, maybe it's common in that part of the world :) great video alex as always! gotta love those wingtips!
Love this vid for the fact that you had TipTop beehoon with the perfect view! You should also try the sardine puffs if you hadn't. Totally agree with you, what I do not like about flying a 787 is that crew might lock the controls. Most SQ fliers feel the same way also with the eco-friendly packaging. It feels cheap. Though, I heard improvements have been made from customers feedback. Hope it gets better!
I also had the puffs!! They are just not on the video. I always buy some curry puffs. I took them with me in my suitcase for when I become peckish. The B787’s window controls are super annoying. I know many airlines don’t allow crew to temper with them. It seems that SQ isn’t one of them.. I hope the service gets better too as I love SQ!

U write it somewhere and then mention them while editing? How u never miss those details 😅? Btw love your quality content thank you so much
Bon apétit to you! First of all, thank you for watching. Love that it’s part of your lunch time. To explain it; I used to write it but not anymore. I just search up the registration and look up where the plane was going that day and time (flightradar allows you to go 1 year back in time). If I can’t see the registration I’ll actually take a lot more time to see what plane parked at that gate at that time. I think it’s worth the effor 😊 Thanks again for watching!
SQ and Cathay Pacific focus investing on hardware product to match ME3 dominance but cut on catering compared to other Southeast Asian carriers hot meals in the region, same goes United Polaris business product with game changing lounges and seats but dismal catering though
Singapore has the best in class and most modern fleets but they are notorious when it comes to cost cutting on their offerings. The don’t have overhead air vents and tail cameras to avoid the setup and maintenance costs. Needless to say, they are in the news for all bad reasons about the poor quality of meals offered, even in premium cabins. The only good experience I had off late with them was the first suite class journey on their A380 and that was incredible but even then cost cutting was very obvious in many instances.
11:54, It's similar to Boeing 777-200 Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-300 and Boeing 777-300ER, but the wingtips is slightly different to all Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Man o man I always think no man he can't top the previous video and yet he always does man, Your videos are the reason my dreams are so big, and how do you have so much knowledge about aircrafts man I have met so many aviation enthusiasts but you are different you know every little detail and I am sure if any airlines puts you in a pilot seat you can fly any commercial jet 😂
9:05, Yeah that's annoying that they don't have the personal air vent. They need to install the air vent on a medium and long haul flight on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and also, Airbus A350, so that it's comfortable.
I have a question. Was the aircon turned back on after take off? Because I took a B787-9 by Scoot, I was sweating all the way from SIN to TPE and then TPE to SIN which made me felt very unwell after landing back in Singapore, even though it's a midnight flight. But didn't have a problem with the A320 that I took from BKK to SIN. I believed that the personal air vents played a big part during the flight.
13:19, Me too, I want to look out the window to see the view outside, but they lock and dim the window, which is annoying. But for me, I am okay, but it's annoying that they lock and dim the window at a cruising attitude. If you want to look out the window to see the view outside, take the evening and red eye flight, so that you can see the moon, clouds, horizon, city land, water and other planes flying lower or higher attitude in the same or opposite direction to see the contrails.
Oh man you def have some personal vendetta with Lufthansa 😂... I dont blame you tho, so far majority of the Lufthansa videos I've seen so far... Most of them were average to negative reviews. The newer planes somehow makes the experiences a bit better, but the older jets look like a living nightmare.
No personal vendetta at all, I love them just as they are. Always have good experiences there. I make fun of Skytrax who said they’re better vs Emirates, Turkish and Etihad.. Glad that part is over..
After flying several Southeast Asian airlines, you really do come to realize that Singapore technically has the “worst” onboard food service of the southeast Asian airlines on short-haul. This isn’t bad at all and it’s a great service for the duration, but the other Southeast Asian airlines which are seen as “lesser” than SQ set the bar very high on short haul catering. Thai Airways serves more than SQ on this route lol. Regardless, I’d still rather fly SQ on this route simply because of the cabin and crews.
Honestly after flying SQ to Bangkok it’s sad to say I actually prefer flying AirAsia hot seat as it’s not only much cheaper but the legroom is decent and it feels just more comfortable and not so commercialised
I do not know so much about airline ratings but barring the dimmed window, it was a good flight. I am not fussy about cutlery, I go more for the food quality and quantity. Does Thai plan to return the parked aircraft into service? If not, why doesn't it lease them out instead of leaving them to depreciate on the tarmac? Maintaining non revenue generating aircraft is a waste of resources. Thanks for the review. I look forward to the next one.
A perspective to consider: It is with great regret that the new recent in-flight SQ meal presentation in Economy class, which started during pandemic era, does not look appetising nor elegant anymore. While I could understand the need to reduce surface contact, cost-cutting measures, etc. during pandemic years, it is hoped that SQ could return the sophisticated meal presentation towards pre-pandemic SQ standard. Previously, SQ meal presentation looks elegant, high-class, proper, well-thoughtful in every aspect so as to have a luxurious feel even on a short one-hour Jakarta-Singapore flight which compliments other aspect of world-class SQ label. For instance, in every Economy class pre-pandemic SQ meals consists of: proper metal cutleries set only, a refined white-colour plate for the main dish, a transparent classy glass cup, small cylindrical pre-packed mineral water or orange juice, additional coffee/tea offering by stewardess in a proper cup as well as rounded bread offering, basic seasoning: salt pepper butter, two finest white-colour square plates for the side dishes with transparent lid showcasing their contents: chocolate cake / desserts / green salad/ two or three types of colourful fruits. All of these are placed against darker-colour tray, enhancing its colour contrast. Exquisite indeed! However, nowadays as also shown in the flight review above, for Economy class in-flight meal, cheap-looking brown takeaway cardboard box is used instead. No more metal cutleries in some flights route. To a certain extent, that is not how it supposed to look for five-star airlines. In addition, many components are removed and black-coloured thin cheap-looking plastic plate is used for the main dish instead. A comparison of current SQ in-flight meal presentation with pre-pandemic Economy class of other five-star airlines competitors such as Emirates reveals how disappointing and dissatisfying it is. It is hoped that SQ could return the sophisticated Economy class meal presentation again once pandemic impacts becoming more manageable in a foreseable future.
Awesome review onboard SQ! :) Not a fan of the meal boxes and bamboo cutlery they serve on short flights It would be better if they included the menu on the IFE screens as well
10 days ago I was flying SIN-MUM in business class and had book the cook lobster tail for dinner. The hostess suggest chardonnay with it, which I am still waiting for.
hahaha, sorry for the wine! I booked BOM-SIN yesterday along with the lobster from book the cook!! Coincidence. I do will insist on getting my wine though.
Nice video. Anyways, can you please do New York to Singapore or Singapore to New York which is the worlds longest route and can you do a Cathay Pacific route to review Cathay Pacific. Do like Hyderabad to Hong Kong because you never did the Hyderabad city in India?
Any clue on why SQ is operating both the A350 900 and the 787-10, which are very similar in terms of capacity? (only major difference is the range) Giving the crew the power to lock the windows to dark on the 787 just feels wrong and having experienced it twice on Vistara, I've started avoiding the dreamliner wherever possible. Feels a bit like unnecessary fleet diversity but I think it makes sense given supply chain issues to have such diversity. Also interesting to note that the 787K is able to roll on idle. I wonder why SQ chose to place 4 seat pockets, mirror on a table but no air vents(which is waaay more important imo)
You are right, these planes have approximately the same capacity. However, they are used for vastly different purposes. The 787 is configured for high-density short haul routes like this one. The A350s however come in 3 configurations - Medium-haul, long-haul and ultra-long haul (A350ULR), the A350s have Premium Economy which the 787s don't. They operate in a high density layout with few business class seats and many economy class seats

Well, not all airlines give you wooden spoon and fork. Only Singapore Airlines is the only exception and it's only for short haul flight. If is long haul flights all airlines, they will give you regular spoon and fork.
Man your trip reports are amazing , Awesome. I want to make a request if you could explain the temperature inside doha international airport. My flight is scheduled Insha'Allah on 21 august from Peshawar to doha and then to heathrow. And i want to is doha international airport is air conditioned.
Thanks a lot for the comment!! And of course Doha is air conditioned! I wish you a safe and fun journey, I trust you’ll enjoy it! I have a video from Doha to Pakistan but I don’t think it will be released before 21 August.. Have a nice one!
Wish I could say SQ is great, the truth is it was once great…but no longer. Their Call Centre is impossible to contact. Their business is the most expensive and fails to deliver what others provide (free limo service, inflight bar, amenity kits, beds you don’t have to flip over and so on). Yes it’s a “good” service in Business and Economy, but not even close to great (or great value) that is for sure. Come on SQ, please try harder! 🙏✈️
such a bummer when they use a long haul jet on a short haul flight and accelerate like they are taxiing on take off :D Food looks good tho but quantity is abysmal when compared to its past. another great report tho
Tough question.. I kind of like them all. And I think SQ has a full service to the major Indian cities as it’s around 4 hours long. So I like them all! Which ever offers the best fare I would take.
@@TheLayoverAviation Also has a full service to Indian subcontinent. I take Emirates, not to India because I am fed up with the same Asian Homogenous airline, as I like to have the entire cosmopolitan crew led by the British.
@TheLayoverAviation they are in midst of doing so. Local reports said that the procurement department has put tender for hot towels as well! And also the carousel. They didn't want to save money. They wanted to "satisfy" certain groups on how they can be environmentally friendly HAHAH.
I will fly exact flight (SQ708) in next 2 months in economy (43A seat). As I have flown few times on SQ between SIA-BKK, I always keep my bar low on economy class service. But long haul flights SQ 21, 22, 23, 24, the service is top notch.
I find that a breach of people’s privacy.. I really don’t like sharing names. On the other hand, if something doesn’t go very well the company will have a quick way to find that crew member..
Amazing! I really don't mind if Singapore is better or not than other 5 stars airlines, but I am sure are more better than other airlines in the world. And that good service and food is all we can add for. By the way, I was investigating and the a350 also would (and it have) the crew blocking on the new windows. The difference is that in this case is a complete back hole 🕳️, cause you don't see nothing. So the crew's would live to blind.
Amazing video!!! I made B787-10 videos too!! One will come out 7.8 I can agree with you, that SQ is not the best as i thought from my own experience, the breakfast was horrible but the crew was awesome,my typical czech cookies were much better then that i had on the flight 😅 So what is the real n°1 airline for you???? 😊 Enjoyed my stay again!! See you soon friend! Take care! 💪🏻😎✈️
I’m looking forward to your video! SQ is great. But the problem comes again when you pride yourself in being worlds best.. Because then you better beat everyone else in every field! I also always bring my own snacks if required. I wouldn’t mind having those Czech cookies 😜 The real n1 depends! I can’t say as it depends. QR is great IF you get a non robotic crew and IF you get the Qsuites. Emirates is incredible when you fly the latest aircrafts, but everything else is very consistent. I would have to say that for now Etihad ticks all my boxes. They just changed the whole business service and I hope to be able to edit it soon. Regards my friend!

It’s not complaining, just saying that Middle Eastern airlines, and some Asian ones too, offer more on such a flight. So you can’t be the best if you’re not the most generous.

The meal box is too claustrophobic & the tray looks like the one in neighbourhoods food court😂.
I have been told it has all been improved by now.. I’m glad!
@@TheLayoverAviation I read SQ will still serve meals in boxes for flights under 3.5 hours.
9:05, Yeah that's annoying that they don't have the personal air vent. They need to install the air vent on a medium and long haul flight on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and also, Airbus A350, so that it's comfortable.
Specially in such hot destinations such as Singapore and Bangkok!
Yes and when it rain, it's gets really humid.
I hate the blocking..
thanks for the nice comment, I like how you enjoy watching outside as much as I do!
My pleasure. Okay.
21:17, On May 31 2023, for the 1st time, I flew Vietjet (Vietnam) for the 1st time from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh and the flight is okay.
I’ll try them out!
Okay good luck.
Nice Work tonnes of love Amman Jordan
tonnes of love back! Hopefully soon the video on RJ!
When you parked in the gate, will you fly to Stockholm from Bangkok? Try all the flag carriers.
I’ve already got a video on Thai somewhere. Stockholm to BKK I’m not sure I’ll do as I live far from both.
This window-blocking on the 787 has no point at all, but is driving everyone crazy!!
It’s very unfair to those that love having windows..
And to those that don’t want to sleep. The message it sends people is “get to sleep”..
If I wanna sleep I can do it at any seat, so I probably wouldnt pay extra for the window
I’ll give Air Asia’s hot seat a try soon! Never tried yet.
Good to see you with SQ.... Actually bored with... Middle East airlines.... Happy flying ✈️
Well, I live in Dubai so it’s the major choice for me 😅
I do not know so much about airline ratings but barring the dimmed window, it was a good flight.
A perspective to consider:
It is with great regret that the new recent in-flight SQ meal presentation in Economy class, which started during pandemic era, does not look appetising nor elegant anymore.
Not on the 19th, a couple of days later! But it would have been cool to have spotted you!
Awesome review onboard SQ! :)
Not a fan of the meal boxes and bamboo cutlery they serve on short flights
It would be better if they included the menu on the IFE screens as well
Yes! It is world best.
Wow
😃
Any clue on why SQ is operating both the A350 900 and the 787-10, which are very similar in terms of capacity? (only major difference is the range)
Giving the crew the power to lock the windows to dark on the 787 just feels wrong and having experienced it twice on Vistara, I've started avoiding the dreamliner wherever possible.
The mirror is so you can see how much you're sweating!
Faster deliveries maybe?
You are right, these planes have approximately the same capacity. However, they are used for vastly different purposes. The 787 is configured for high-density short haul routes like this one. The A350s however come in 3 configurations - Medium-haul, long-haul and ultra-long haul (A350ULR), the A350s have Premium Economy which the 787s don't. They operate in a high density layout with few business class seats and many economy class seats
❤Love your Trip Report thumbs down n all Haha😂 Wish in the Caribbean we had sunflowers gardens.Too bad love singapore terminal so cool.. As usual the Best Trip Report n I mean The Best❤😂
15:53, Yeah I don't know why they give wooden spoon and fork. It's only a short haul flight when they give you wooden spoon and fork.
It kind of sucks on such a good airline..
Well, not all airlines give you wooden spoon and fork. Only Singapore Airlines is the only exception and it's only for short haul flight. If is long haul flights all airlines, they will give you regular spoon and fork.
Yeah, Singapore Airlines is my top 3 in Asia. Very solid service, never had bad experience.
I love them too. They just need to fix the catering issues.. But love Asian airlines ❤️
❤😂Well then 2nd😂❤
Man your trip reports are amazing , Awesome. I want to make a request if you could explain the temperature inside doha international airport. My flight is scheduled Insha'Allah on 21 august from Peshawar to doha and then to heathrow. And i want to is doha international airport is air conditioned.
Thanks a lot for the comment!! And of course Doha is air conditioned! I wish you a safe and fun journey, I trust you’ll enjoy it! I have a video from Doha to Pakistan but I don’t think it will be released before 21 August..
Have a nice one!
@@TheLayoverAviation i would love to watch that video.
RR makes the worlds best engines!
Best engine sound too!
where are you flying on which airline
My next flight is to London with British Airways, but I won’t film it as I need to sleep 😴
I would fly SQ in their premium classes but their economy is no match to a lot of carriers out there.
100% agree! i’ll try to post a premium cabin the next time on SQ.
Nice video buddy. Try to make a trip to Kerala, India
Thanks a lot!! I hope to be back in India soon ❤️
@@TheLayoverAviation OK Make sure to make a visit to Cochin or Trivandrum in Kerala
Wow amazing plane! Boieng 787 RR trent 1000 engines
Such a sad person. Service staffs respond to cheerful people. Customer the king days are long gone. They wont miss you as a customer
such a bummer when they use a long haul jet on a short haul flight and accelerate like they are taxiing on take off :D Food looks good tho but quantity is abysmal when compared to its past. another great report tho
I don't like short flights. Longer flights on EK first class please????
Those cost so much money!
But the next flight is over 16 hours long 😜
@@TheLayoverAviation From Where to Where? Economy or Business? Which Airline? Emirates, Etihad or Qatar?
fantastic f,6
Which airline would you rather fly to India??? Singapore Airline or any of the Gulf Carriers???
Tough question.. I kind of like them all. And I think SQ has a full service to the major Indian cities as it’s around 4 hours long. So I like them all!
Which ever offers the best fare I would take.
@@TheLayoverAviation Also has a full service to Indian subcontinent. I take Emirates, not to India because I am fed up with the same Asian Homogenous airline, as I like to have the entire cosmopolitan crew led by the British.
This reminds me of our trip last may from SIN to BKK with the same aircraft! Gosh i miss flying with SQ ❤
What a coincidence! I hope you get to fly them again soon.
I would prefer to fly with other world’s best airlines.
SQ is nice, I like it a lot. But we have to agree that other airlines are better on 2 hour flights!
We need a vlog from DXB to Norway please??
SIA has said that the sustainability was a pilot trial.
They will going back to carousels.
I hope so.. because this was just an excuse to save money 😅
@TheLayoverAviation they are in midst of doing so. Local reports said that the procurement department has put tender for hot towels as well! And also the carousel.
They didn't want to save money.
They wanted to "satisfy" certain groups on how they can be environmentally friendly HAHAH.
Are you allowed to ask the crew to let you control the window?
You can ask.. But they seemed busy and a bit annoyed this time..
I will fly exact flight (SQ708) in next 2 months in economy (43A seat). As I have flown few times on SQ between SIA-BKK, I always keep my bar low on economy class service. But long haul flights SQ 21, 22, 23, 24, the service is top notch.
I have a suggestion if you could mention the captain s name in each of your videos
But the way, did you know the trent 1000 is some decibels quiet than GE?
which airline are you flying to London on
British Airways
Can you fly with tarom from istanbul to bucharest please just go to romania its so beautiful make a video I want to feel proud of my country
are you going to film at the airport
My recent experience with Singapore Airlines flying from USA to India and back has been rather disappointing.
What do you do that you travel a lot. 😄 #tha layover aviation
I work in the hospitality industry, representing and promoting a major company and some side jobs.
catering looks you are in LCC!
I agree!
Please travel in Air Asia once please 🙏
I’m doing my best! Just very busy this summer..
After Covid, SQ went From 5 star catering to 1 star.
Very sad 😢
I hope it all improves in the coming months. I’m very fond of them!
@@TheLayoverAviation hope for the best. It is still our preferred airline to fly out from Sydney.
Your videos are top notch 👌
Amazing video!!! I made B787-10 videos too!! One will come out 7.8
I can agree with you, that SQ is not the best as i thought from my own experience, the breakfast was horrible but the crew was awesome,my typical czech cookies were much better then that i had on the flight 😅
So what is the real n°1 airline for you???? 😊
Enjoyed my stay again!! See you soon friend! Take care! 💪🏻😎✈️
I’m looking forward to your video!
SQ is great. But the problem comes again when you pride yourself in being worlds best.. Because then you better beat everyone else in every field!
I also always bring my own snacks if required. I wouldn’t mind having those Czech cookies 😜
The real n1 depends!
Woh que sad ver tantos aviones de Thai quietos en el aeropuerto de Bangkok🥲a que se debe esto amigo? y básico el servicio de Singapur en esta ruta 😂 saludos desde fiel seguidor del canal ☺️👋🏽
Yo, business class not paper box with food? 😮
It's quite annoying when they lock the window dimmer.
Specially if you want to make a nice video for your friends!!
Not so nice, why do they dim the Windows???
I have no clue why.. It could be to keep the temperature down but I don’t think so as there is AC.. Likely to put people to sleep.
I think you cant complain for a 2 hour flight. plus at least you got a meal buddy.
It’s not complaining, just saying that Middle Eastern airlines, and some Asian ones too, offer more on such a flight.
So you can’t be the best if you’re not the most generous.
@@TheLayoverAviation sorry still don’t agree with your point
Sweating inside the cabin because of the heat? What a turn-off.
I really question how SQ became the best airline, lately economy food is very poor
Even on the long flights the food is very reduced. I hope to show my flight from Dubai in the near future.
seat number?
Darking and locking the window controls is crossing a line for me. I will never again fly with an airline that want's to control my enjoyment of flying.
It doesnt matter, every airline operating the 787 do this, dont know why because I dont see the reason but they do...
