Just used this video to change springs on a 992 and here to report that there are very few changes with the new generation. A couple of rear suspension bolts are different sizes and that's it. Thanks for a super useful and informative video!

Just wanted to say thank you, watched your video twice and tackled my H&R springs, everything went as planned and got them done in 3 hours, rears are a pita to line up. lol the second front spring took me literally 20 minutes! Awesome

Great video! I too just bought a T, and I’m in love with it. Just took it for a rip up Angeles Crest to Mt. Wilson. Amazing car even in stock trim. The T really shows how capable a base Carrera is with a few mods (sport suspension, GT4 shifter, GT3 mechanical LSD) and what a wonderful job Porsche did with the 991. I’ve owned and driven a lot of wonderful and fast cars over the years, and how capable this one is yet easy to drive around town amazes me all the time regardless of what I’m doing with it. I was already a subscriber before you got the T and I am really stoked you also got it right at the same time as I got mine so I’ll get to learn the car and watch you experience the same. Thanks for the content, I’m really looking forward to what ever you do next. Think about joining PCA or some other group for a track day 😊 !

Tommy, great videos, your installs are top notch for DIY guys with a little skill, thank you. Curious of what you think of the ride on these H&R springs, and if your happy with them? Also, if you were going to do it again are you happy with lowering springs or would you go full coil-overs? I’m trying to decide if I just want to lower a 997 with PASM, or if it’s worth the money for coil overs. Thanks again

Great video. Thanks. Love the front end shortcut. I am doing mine now, 991.1S, using Eibach springs. Just got the back end done and can't wait to try out your shortcut. One question though, shouldn't you only tighten the control arms with the wheels at normal height (i.e. not hanging) so you don't stress out the bushings? Thanks again for the great video.
Good thought on the control arms. I was told not to worry about it since that is how the tech does it.
@TommylGarage, are there any tighten number for the struts nuts and spring on the towers? also when putting the new spring on the front how much to do you have push on the jack to compress the spring before tightening the nuts?
Another informative video Tommy. Great job! I can't even imagine how much the dealer charges for a 10hr labor and you did it in 2hr. Luckily it's not the summer, I couldn't imagine doing this in the hot summer in the garage.

Nice content, cool trick for the front springs. Wouldn’t the bolts be one time use though, and did you use the correct torque values when putting things back together again?
Correct torque specs yes. I just didn’t film it.
And I reused the bolts. They’re not one time use.
That technique of removing the front springs! Genius! Amazing stuff! (never would have thought of that!) So every time I lower a car it ends up rubbing on the rear tires, especially when I have passengers in the back seats. You'll have to do a quick video about that. (the ride quality, rubbing, etc..) Keep up the great work!

Did you have any issues with the PDLS. Every once in a while I get an error light (pdls warning light) on the dash. It usually resets after the car is off.

Hi, Tommy - What's the purpose of disconnecting the battery terminals? And do you connect the car to a trickle charger or battery tender during the process?
It’s to not throw any codes. You reconnect after install.
Are you going with the sto n sho front plate? And are you going to just hang it low or will you auger out the black front spoiler to accomodate. ThNks for all your videos!!!!!

Just bought a 991.1 that I plan on lowering with some H&R springs. What size spacers did you buy from front and back? I'm also getting a lot of mixed signals about spacers altering the drivability and feel of the front end. Can you provide your experience with them? Thanks.
There were a lot of nuts you removed. Perhaps 10 different sizes. First question is where did you find the correct torque specs? Second question is... I noticed in the video you said 19mm strut socket when you were working on the rear (with 9mm or 11/32" wrench for the nut) and 21mm strut socket for the front (with 10mm wrench for nut). Did I understand that correctly? The front and rear struts have different sized nuts & require different sockets & wrenches?
Hello.
1. Torque specs can be found online. I found a few different versions so didn’t want to post one versus the other. You need to determine it yourself.
2. And yes front and rear strut nuts and bolts are sized differently. That’s why it’s best to get a full strut nut kit.
Good video- how did you torque up all the control arms? I believe you need to load the bushings before torquing up the control arms. If you don’t, the bushing will fail shortly after.
Also, do you torque up the strut nuts with the springs compressed?
Yes strut nuts need to be tightened with the spring compressed
With the quick jack you could do this pretty easy by putting something under the wheels, loading them up and sliding under the car to torque them. Do you have to do this?

What's the c-clamp for on the rear shocks? Can you just move that down all the way the with stock springs and get a similar drop?
Actually yes you can lower it on stock springs. Unfortunately front is not adjustable
Why you lower the c clamp at the rear? Do you have to do it or is just compulsory? I’m doing my springs and I don’t want to go crazy low. If I leave the c clamp in the original position will I achieve anyways a drop?
Od ciebie wyglada bardzo latwe! For new guys using spring compressors always remember to keep both ends pointing away from you because they are sometimes known to give out and that much compressed energy can be fatal if not handled carefully.

Nice, thanks for the video, looks straight forward. You probably want to tighten the suspension arm bolts at ride height to keep the bushing geometry unstressed. :-)

Ask other people what car you should buy and they tell you what car is best for them. If you want the best car for you then you have to decide what you want/need and consider options. You don’t even say what you’ll use the car for, and these are different cars at different prices. “What car should I buy?” Get a Ferrari F40, those are decent.
@@joeracer302 looking for 80% street and 20%track. Asking about price is pointless as I live in Canada...different prices here. I am not a Ferrari person and I mentioned my choices between Cayman T, GTS 4.0, or the 992 Carrerra T
GTS 4.0! Other than articles with porsche exec claiming it was coming, nothing announced yet. If anything if it comes out it’ll be sometime at end of 992.2, like the 991.2 T. Why wait get the GTS 4.0.

i saw a similar level sensor like the one used in air suspension. Is it possible to use adjustable level sensors to fake shorter levels to lower it automatically? Not sure if it work the same way like the air suspension
No it won’t work. These Leveling sensors are for headlight aim only

Hi. do you recommend lowering the tyre pressures also after the drop? I've lowered my suspension with HnR springs by 35mm but wondering to slightly reduce pressures?

You shouldn't have to change tire pressures - the load of the car has not changed.
What spacers you end up using?
Awesome vid - any reason you did just springs and not pistons as well? I mean springs only at $350 vs $3000 for the bilstein is certainly cost effective. Also e min? No. 17 A flat Maj maybe?

When i do that job I dont undo the front top mount nuts cause that loses the alignment, i remove the strut after removing the shaft nut. BTW, no fender covers nor safety glasses?

@@TommyLGarage thanks. I started the job yesterday. I’ve done many suspensions in the past, never on a Porsche though. On the rear alone it took me about 2.5-3 hours. Granted having the right tools makes a huge difference and I don’t have an electric 90° ratchet which would have been nice for the rear top nuts. 🥵

Im not sure if the .2 is different than the .1 but i had a HELL of a time putting the rears in. Simply lifting that top arm was NOT an option for whatever reason. The brake line and ABS wire were in the way. I did every step you did and it took me 5 hours. Mind you, i have installed suspension on tons of cars over the last decade... This was insane haha. Still got it done, but oh man was that a painful experience.

@@TommyLGarage Yep! Its mostly because the arms were still under tension from the subframe mounting locations. SO even with a helping hand, it was a PITA haha. First time tho and i know i could do it faster again

This is so much easier - compared to 996/997 turbo! :) you need to remove crap from rear/interior rear is not bad but front you need to remove axles :)
Nice you went with H&Rs , I did lower my GTR on H&Rs as well. same as my M4 was- h&R is way to go for z German cars.

I have a 992 with front lift system which I never have to use because the car is not that love originally to begin with.. but if I lowered my car it would be the best of both words. Will I be still able to use the lift system after this upgrade? Does it any way destruct the drive quality on bumpy city roads? Thanks for all your effort you put into this.

All these cut scenes. So misleading! Very few DIY-ers have those tools. It’s clearly taken 2 hrs for one corner. We charge 2.5 hrs per corner. That includes the NECESSARY alignment after the install. I don’t see an alignment rack in your garage?
If you charge 2.5 hours per corner you need to find another profession. Front literally takes 15 minus each side minutes alignment.
Great video, but let’s be honest this Porsche owner are not about that life of working on a six figure car themselves lol.

Don’t believe this man’s lies “two hours” there’s no way, hours of struggle were cut out of this video, notice how the garage is closed so you can’t see the daylight disappearing. Replacing the whole system takes 6 hours minimum and that’s with good tools. Also there is a necessary alignment that has to be done afterwards which adds another few hours to the job. Overall expect 8 to 10 hours spent doing this to completion.
Stop spreading false rumors to justify overcharging your customers. Front is 15 minutes per side. Rear maybe 20. I showed every single step, which there are few. Alignment is of course on top, but I don’t have an alignment machine. If a shop ever quotes me 10 hours for this I’d ignore everything they told me before or after, since obviously they have no idea what they’re talking about.
@@TommyLGarage what customers, I’ve utilized a shops lift to do this myself. I have specialty tools and I’ve been working on cars for a while and I’m very familiar with the 991.1 and .2. You cut out a lot of the moving and torquing and navigating and pushing and pulling in order to get those struts out of the car. Also those bolts in the rear are single use and if not the bolt, the nut. Overall it takes about and hour to an hour thirty to get a rear apart and back together, and the fronts aren’t much different. On top of that you’ll need an alignment which can take anywhere from two to four hours. So 8 hours for the whole job is totally acceptable.
No no no Tommy. B that's a ghetto way to let your car. KW coilovers. 10 times better in every way for an extra 2K.
