- For decades, Montenegro has been unable to get organized crime under control. Rampant corruption is hindering development in the country, which is a candidate for EU membership. Now, Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic is attempting a political awakening.
At the end of 2020, a wave of protests swept Zdravko Krivokapic to the very top of Montenegro’s government. Until then, the university professor had not been involved in politics. He vowed to finally do something about the rampant nepotism and corruption that had spread before and during the rule of long-term President Milo Dukanovic. Dukanovic’s supporters believed they would soon bring Krivokapic onto their side. But so far, that hasn’t happened, and the prime minister is cleaning the country up. A report by Miodrag Soric.

I am Bulgarian and can tell you that we have the exact same problems with high corruption, the new elected party won because of anti corruption vows. Balkan countries and people are beautiful and proud, I hope one day we can all leave peacefully and stress free
Thank you DW for covering news from all over the world. Here in the US no news media ever mention Montenegro as a country let alone covering that goes on there.
Someone campaigning on fighting corruption and then actually fighting it instead of profiting from it - well thats a first in my book. Let's hope they succeed!
Montenegro is like one city sized nation. It's not crazy that the PM took interest on what's happening on his doorstep
It’s so sad 😞 just like my country Nigeria, corruption has been sown into the fabric of this nation. This guy would be frustrated till he either joins them or leave the position.
Also Cyprus is drowned in corruption and yet no media here covers such examples. Excellent work DW
Motenegro never gets mentioned in media in Slovakia, I love the place, been there 6 weeks this year already and coming back on 26th of december.
Corruption is the plague of modern society. We as people should fight against
During the 90s we balkans fought and sacrificed everything for a better future and ended up in the hands of the political mafia and under the exploitation of great powers. Balkan is a sad story.
I love this channel. I'm supposed to be working but now I'm obsessed with gravel extraction in Montenegro
I'm from neighbouring Bosnia, and I really really want to believe Krivokapić... But I can't just yet. My mantra for the last 20+ years has been:
as a balkanese myself I can tell you know hes a president of the people the way he sits at home with his family, wearing a jogging suit. Jokes aside, great work and much respect to him & his work!
This is Exactly the same thing in my country Cameroon...it's soo terrible to an extend that even the corruption committee is also deeply corrupt and finally out of control cause it's become the private property of France and the 1% in Cameroon...all we need is the death penalty.
Montenegro is smallest country in Europe and have so many criminals in government.Milo Djukanovic is a worst !
Corruption is almost every country in this world, and regular people are suffering tremendously, one percent is getting rich. I admire this prime minister’s honesty and courage to stand up against corruption, since it penetrate in the root of the society.
Every country is corrupt to a certain point, corrupt people destroy millions of peoples lifes, all them should be senteced to prison for life and all their wealth should be invested back in the society and in honest workers
I hope one day Montenegro is able to prosper with corruption eradicated. It will be hard, but Montenegro has so much potential to be so much better
This was informative and interesting.
I am critical of China's intentions and practices, but in this case, I wonder why they are no longer showing up. Did they simply see too much of their investment money disappear in the pockets of the local mafia?
Breach of contract means tear up that contract!! Save Montenegro!!
