It’s hard if not impossible to compete with a bottle, a pill, a line, a needle … for those of us that were determined to try, we learn that when in love with an addict, we’ll never be number one, and rarely even number two in their lives. The 90s caliber of songwritting be it ballads, rap, r&b, metal, rock, alternative is just a chasm of separation from todays lyrics. The songwriting is just poetic, real, from the heart, and that is why it transcends time and still applies today - and it will still resonate 20 - 50 years from now.
I've been listening to this since it first came out. I'm 60 years old. It doesn't matter, the ballads of this time period are still the best IMO. GETS YOU RIGHT IN YOUR FEELS 💜
Music as a whole has lost most of what makes music real. I think technology has made a negative impact on it. Also record labels and greed has fucked it all up.
I was a pre-teen/teen during the 90's and couldn't wait to see what the future held. Now that I see how the world and life are, I want the 90's to return. Everything was so much simpler and more peaceful back then.
It was the 80's for me but feel the same."At best, happiness is a fleeting emotion: a sensation to be enjoyed while it is here, however short the visit. Sadness, happiness' ugly twin, has the same fleeting visiting pattern. When sadness visits, we have to endure despite wanting rid of it."

This is probably one of the most powerful, emotional songs of the era. The lyrics sometimes brings me to tears. I have always been that guy that would run over 10 good girls to get to that rotten one and I have suffered in the process. Love this song

My dad loved this song. I never fully understood it, but now i do.. Everyone deals with hurt differently.. I don't drink, or use drugs,, but i hurt nevertheless.. I don't sit with the hurt, that's too difficult, i run with it.. But, to each their own, and we carry on...

This song makes me cry, man. Had a friend who I only had the ability to meet a few times. He headed a hard rock band in Toronto before I ever met him. He never became a huge star unfortunately, but DAMN did he have a voice. He'd listen to Alice in Chains or Stone Temple Pilots (this sort of band). But he had a few good acoustic screamers and this was easily his very favourite. He had a voice just like Hootie and every time I hear this song I think of him. The rockstar lifestyle catches up to you eventually, it's unfortunate but true. Thanks for this, Darius and the band!!

I definitely took them for granted. '96-'99 were 3 very magical years.
Me and my dad painted Darius Rucker's home in Charleston SC in 1994.. It was painted yellow with black trim.. And when we were done he walked up after being on the road and told my dad "Nice job!" and signed my dad's tee shirt! I was so blown away all I could do was stare.. Dad said to me Pick up your tongue son he's only like you and me.. ! I still couldn't speak! I still remember it like it was yesterday..
This song reminds me of my kids father. He battled addiction until he passed from it at 30 years old 6 years ago. We were high school sweethearts and was in active addiction then as well. We broke up and got back together many times and he used to tell me he listened to this song when he wasn’t with me and would sing it many times when we were together. Miss him every day, but when I hear this song it takes me back to him.

I can't believe the number of haters on the internet, since he began doing country. R & B and Country are 'kissing cousins'. He has an incredible voice that is totally suited to either. Let the man do what he wants to do, and enjoy the sounds of either. I, for one, simply love to hear his voice sing.
This band saved my fucking life, and that's no God dame joke! This band, this album, this song exploded onto the seen at a time when I was out of fucking steam. I've said this, and I will continue to say it; the 80's and the 90's were the Golden Age of music. For they truly had passion, meaning, and emotion like no other.
i am with you on that . time is cruel and so is this NOT music crap . i never thought i would say Adam Levine is great . he is the closest to rock we have . watch his " purple rain " tribute with Trains lead singer . Adam can rip a guitar apart . trust me . btw , long live the 80's .

Not easy to like boomer or gen z truth. Millenium 1995 onwards knows my weakness. They refuse to acknowledge my stand and deliver proudness. They still have no say about my liberty.
Still make me smile after all these years
The 90s caliber of songwritting be it ballads, rap, r&b, metal, rock, alternative is just a chasm of separation from todays lyrics. The songwriting is just poetic, real, from the heart, and that is why it transcends time and still applies today - and it will still resonate 20 - 50 years from now.
Very true!
I've been listening to this since it first came out. I'm 60 years old. It doesn't matter, the ballads of this time period are still the best IMO. GETS YOU RIGHT IN YOUR FEELS 💜

You and me both. I’m 54 and long for the 90’s when life was much simpler.
Now imagine how I fell about the 70s...

There are certain 90’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

That first note of his guitar… tears every time. This song is a one of a kind. Brings on emotions that can not be described. Thank you, Darius.

This is probably one of the most powerful, emotional songs of the era. The lyrics sometimes brings me to tears. I have always been that guy that would run over 10 good girls to get to that rotten one and I have suffered in the process. Love this song

For anyone who's ever loved someone they couldn't fix, the third verse hits you in the gut every time.
You can't create love. Only embrace it ☺️
Embrace change that is the lesson I walk away with
You can only fix yourself and that; not always. Got to take people at their worth and let them walk out if they wish.
Even more so when that verse is about you...addiction sucks!
