    *NOTE* - Most people are better off on the consumer level platforms, I have a comparison of i7-8700K vs Ryzen 7 1700 here - ruclips.net/video/iXqfaQU7UzE/видео.html
    Unless you really need the features of X299 or X399, your money will go much further on the mainstream platforms reviewed there.

      I got an i9 7900X for my system at Microcenter for $799.
      It helped me get running a month or 2 sooner for the savings.
      Totally worth it.

    I love my X299 setup. The consumer Z platform was my bottleneck. I went with a 14 core 10th gen X processor from Intel and it is a beast.

    I currently have a a X299 system:
    Intel i9 7940X
    Asus X299-A
    64GB of DDR4 2666Mhz Corsair LPX
    Asus Strix OC 1080Ti
    2 Samsung 1TB Evo SSD's.
    Corsair H110i
    I currently run it at stock frequencies so 3.1Ghz-4.3Ghz temps on the CPU have never exceeded 49C when running at 4.3Ghz and I've been very pleased with it thus far.

      The 14-core chip? Nice; have you tried delidding and OC'ing?

    • @jameslrbrand2002uk
      @jameslrbrand2002uk 6 лет назад +1

      Joshua KIm never had to delid even idling I get 22-24C as for OC'ing probably will after I've had it a year and i put the system into my Phanteks Enthoo Primo case with dual 480mm Rads and a Monsoon Bay Res.
      For now though its way more power than I need for playing Witcher 3, Division, Star Citizen etc in 2K ultra settings when I'm not working a 40hr a week warehouse job.

    Man, I remember last year, when I basically had to step up to the X99 platform, because when i factored in the expected (and extra) expansions that I was planning on doing with my latest machine, I realized that on most boards, I would have run out of PCI-e lanes before I even added in the sound card, let alone SSD's, or a second GPU for SLI/xFire.

  • @kevinlumoindong3498
    @kevinlumoindong3498 6 лет назад +3

    to be honest, there is a use for the TR 1900x. in my case is GPU rendering. its a singlethread application that require multiple graphic cards. so the 64 PCIe lanes makes sense, and the base clock speed is higher than the 16 cores. also its a sweet deals for GPU rendering server if you cant afford EPYC or Xeons

    11 weeks of research and I now finally have a little more clarity. I cannot thank you enough for these finance to performance + needs breakdowns to help me make more informed decisions. Not only are you helping me to help myself with particular goals and needs, it's helping me to help others when explaining things on this particular level.
    Branching out from being a tech support person and Consumer gamer only person into a more Prosumer gamer, producer and streamer goals and needs driven person, has been a confusing time after several years of not keeping up with hardware developments.
    You've lifted the curtain of confusion in a fragmented market where people like me are making serious transitional changes into territories unknown and I want to thank you for that. You have definitely made a difference and I look forward for more to come.

    Brilliant review. You just answered my question. At 9:02 You say you have 64gb of RAM, and use more than 50% for video editing, well when I do 3D simulations or fire or smoke sims, it eats RAM, so clearly I need more than 32gb. Thank you Tech Deals.

    Discovered your channel while looking for information about how SWTOR does with newer tech, your work is amazing, I love how easy you make everything to understand especially for someone who isn't tech savvy. Thank you so much for that! I'm looking at building a small form factor PC because I don't have the space for large builds and I move around a lot. Do you think you could do some informational videos about building small computers for light gaming (I play SWTOR the most and Star Craft a little. All I really care about is making them look as pretty as possible while playing for immersion.) and Photoshop work with some light and occasional content creation (I like to upload recordings of my GSF games to share with my friends for example.)

    I think you are the best reviewer and the best computers channel around , really , you explain all the topics well and you're probably the most honest one among everyone I've seen, I love watching your videos, you really deserve a lot more subscribers and I hope you reach them soon :) . I'm agree with you on the subject, the X299 series is not a fail at all as a lot of people define it , indeed is a series that offers many features and many performances, I see it as much as a series projected to the future, obvious also has flaws, one among all that the famous TIM of Intel, would have been much better to use the solder on the top chips of the range.. I am assembling a PC with an i9 7900X (I bought it new for a great price , otherwise I would have chosen the 7920x) for gaming , some works and multitasking and I think I could not choose better, I wanted all the features that the X299 series offers including a possible SLI x16/x16 that with an 8700K and the Z370 series I could not do , plus I use 2 SSD NVME.. AMD this year did a great job and I hope they continue so but for my use I excluded it regardless, I am a demanding gamer and Ryzen does not offer great performance in games , threadripper even less in fact I see it more than anything else a series for professionals users who play only occasionally or do not play at all, for the rest both platforms are excellent and certainly under a professional point of view AMD this year did better but for a 360° use , I think Intel is still the best choice :) .

  • @Algorythm44

    One thing I've noticed when people compare x299 and x399 the fanboys always say stuff like "intel has the 18 core so x299 wins" which it does in performance. . .until you start looking at epyc because for $400 more you can get a 32 core epyc which will blow the 18 core out of the water lol

    • @towldllr4854
      @towldllr4854 6 лет назад

      But can you use the 32 core Epyc in Windows 10 Pro (The OS recognizes the 32 cores 64 threads)?

    • @Algorythm44
      @Algorythm44 6 лет назад

      The only thing I can find about that is windows 8 (64 bit) supporting 256 cores, I doubt they would go down, but either way if you are even thinking of getting a $2k+ processor I'd hope you have a specific use case and know what it will work with

    • @LS-oh8kv

      Intel has a deep learning 64 core 256 thread chip at super super super low clocks and poor IPC, but it’s supported by windows. I don’t see why 32 wouldn’t be

    Thousands of people own expensive sports cars like Corvettes, Vipers and they do not need them. They would be better off to take the bus.
    What I am really saying is we need a new motherboard format. One for rich enthusiast focused on cooling the board components. It needs to be bigger and be a work of art.

    Hello! I intend to replace my Z270 Asus MB (Strix e). I want to be able to run several virtual machines and add a graphics card for computation. It seems to me the X299 would handle the virtual machines better (more memory lanes) and it would handle one extra GPU without problem. Is my analysis correct? Is the X299 still a good chipset in 2021? One thing that attracts me is that I can find these MBs at a reasonable price. Thanks!

    I know the 9900k has slightly better benchmarks, 9800x is slightly more expensive but uses the x299 chipset. Really don’t know what to get considering the 9900k is probably the last card that uses the 1151 socket.

    I hate that all those X299 mobos don´t have HDMI or displayport outs, they should at least have two video outs. Why is that? If you don´t care about gaming and just want the board for a workstation, you are forced to buy a videocard. And all those boards use optical SPDIF, why not offer the coaxial out too? Optical have less quality than coaxial, at least offer the SPDIF out headers on the mobo, like gigabyte does.. Most of those IO on the back are never used... At least put something usable in there.

    For ASUS ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA and AMD TREADRIPPER 2990WX PROCESSOR there are no RAM hitting 3600 frequency on QVL.. All are below 3000MHz.. As ASUS ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA has XMP 2.0 Feature on it.. can Trident Z Neo or Trident Z Royal would b suitable.. As ROYAL complies with both intel and Amd mobo would it be safer to go for it out of QVL..

    Anyone with some experience in overclocking that can help me with a problem? Want to overclock the i7 8700K to 4,5 GHz (permanent OC). Using a Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooling tower. Is it necessary to delid the CPU if i wanted to go to 4,5 GHz? What is a good temperature line that the CPU should stay below to reach at least 5 years of lifetime? Below 80°C? Just an approximation, nothing specific. Would be awesome if someone could help.
    Btw, awesome video! Not gonna fanboy here but honestly your videos are more informative, serious and very fluently spoken without any grimaces unlike another big tech oriented youtube channel...

    Hey, a questuon I have for you. My graphics card broke, I upgraded my monitor and I need the cheapest graphics card that will be able to handle 4K at 60hz. I do NOT game. All I do is watch videos, browse web and check emails. My PC specs are old so I dont have any HDMI on my motherboard. Thanks.

      About $70 or so, those will output 4K @ 60hz

    ok so i need a no bs reply for streaming and recording/editing 1080p/1440p videos whats the best choice ryzen 7 or i7
    i have bought my ram already which acording to pcpartpicker will fit both ryzen and intel boards but im waiting on the cput to come down in price to buy the 8700k
    should i just buy and r7 17-- or keep waiting on the 8700k to drop in price?

      seras gaming 8700k will drop in price when ryzen+ appears, which will be muuuch better. Buy 1700 and OC or wait for 1700+ in february

      ok let me put it like this at stock speeds which will be the most time effective chip in editing 1080p/1440p
      will the r7 edit a 1080p video in a timely manor meaning 20min video=10min of rendering or is the 8700k going to take that exact same clip and be done in 1min thats what im asking the pricing really dosent matter that much i just want the best cpu i can get for editing and streaming without going x299

      To be honest you should have buyed a threadriper 1950x instead just my opinion if you are playing in 4k Because the CPU that you got will bottleneck the GPU

    X299 sli plus by msi for 220 and a 7800x for 310. Found it on amazon. For the price it makes sense totally.

      Not good for gamers sadly. I guess it comes down to what you use it for.

      Versus Why isn’t it good for gamers? It has quad channel memory and more pcie lanes and 6 cores 12 threads. What does the 8700k have over it? Maybe 5 fps due to clock speeds? At least it’s available unlike coffeelake

    • @ThenVersusNow_
      @ThenVersusNow_ 6 лет назад

      Has to do with its use of mesh. Even overclocked 7800x is only on par with Ryzen 1600 in gaming. In most games the 8700K beats it by 30fps. www.reddit.com/r/intel/comments/6olfxz/comparison_core_i77800x_skylakex_vs_core_i78700k/#bottom-comments

      Ring bus is faster than the mesh for gaming. You can toy with overclocking different parts, but i7 8700k is the better bet. Every other application is another story.

    TL;DR- get X399- more cores cheaper (yes I know the i9 7920XE has a 20 core but it's 2,000), 64 PCIe lanes on the entry level CPU and top level, quad lane ram, but it is a bit slower

    any idea why i can't hit 4ghz on 1700x. my vcore is 1.45v nb 1.25 but i've got slow ram 2400mhz 2x8. msi 370 carbon or something like that.
    also how far can you overclock 2400 1.2v ram? I tried and it crashed when i tried 2666 with all the right timings and dram voltage at 1.35v

      What's your LLC level at/how much Vdroop do you get?
      As far as memory goes you can go up to 1.45V according to AMD but most should be able to do 1.5V and you can use this cool tool to easily OC it www.overclock.net/t/1640919/ryzen-dram-calculator-overclocking-dram

    Sry men i agree with you on many videos but this no,just no.x299 or skylake-x is a total failure.Ridiculous power draw,heat and cpu based pci-lanes.That's total bs.O yeah and lower cpu cache.Everyone agrees that skylake-x was a mistake and should never exist.
    My honest opinion is if anyone want to do video rendering ,gaming or anything else anything from skylake-x 8 or lover core versions are shit when you can buy a ryzen 8c16th or i7 8700k and have both a great gaming system and for anything else and very close to the 8c16 skylake-x,which are are premium price for cpu and mobo.

    • @osgrov
      @osgrov 6 лет назад

      Power draw & heat only get ridiculous if you go Der Bauer on the chips. With a regular and sane overclock they perform great. Apart from Kaby-X, which is universally scorned for good reason, nearly all the bullshit about X299 is due to ignorant tech tubers who have no idea what they're talking about.
      In the real world, both X299 and X399 are wonderful platforms that have different strengths. Both are really strong at what they do well, and I'm very glad we have them.
