Thank you for your video. I’m glad I found it. Im using your video/page to help me understand what I need to do. I have 3 cases of stairs I need to work on. When mounting posts to concrete like @7:32 Would it be unnecessary to put brackets on the middle of the posts or on the bottom of the posts mounting the to the floor for reinforcement?
So, often brackets are used when you don't have the ability (or don't want to) mount the posts to the sides of the cement steps as I did in this video. In fact you can see that the previous owners installed the opposing set of handrails in this way. That handrail uses brackets that anchor the posts to the top of the steps. When properly installed, cement anchors can hold significant amount of weight, so a couple of anchors through the posts and into the side of the cement steps is more than enough. No additional brackets should be necessary. It's been 2 years since I installed this handrail and it is still as solid as it was day one.
I would try and keep the handrail as one piece if I could. Given they sell 12' 2x4s, I imagine the stairs would have to be pretty long before that would be inadequate for reaching the full length without needing to split into sections
Nice and quiet and peaceful build to watch!
Rather than the flashing, couldn't you have used some washers as spacers to keep it off the wall? Might have been easier and serves the same purpose.
Ya I suppose, but I liked shielding the entire wood face rather than just using a localized spacer🤷♂️
This was not what I was looking for but you are a fun guy so I still gave you a like. Nice video
Thanks for the tips

@@make.believe.woodworking Alright thank you so much. Going to take care of it this weekend
How would you connect another handrail to the post, say if your stair run was much longer. Would you do it in smaller sections?

@@make.believe.woodworking Thanks, I ordered the 12 ft lengths today.
Great! Best of luck on the build!
FYI, 2x4 as a handrail is not to code. 3 1/2" is too wide.
