Hexacopter Tarot FY 680 Heavy lift test and Crash

  • I wanted to test my new hexacopter with heavy load. When equipped with BL gimbal, Sony Nex5 and video link, that should be around 1 kg of extra load. So test with 1.5 kg load gives me 500 g reserve.
    Flies great, except I don't hear low voltage beeper and crashed it in the end, so next time I turned the Naza Voltage Monitor back on, since visual signalization works better for me. Also, Naza limits the throttle when voltage drops so I can also "feel" it loses energy and it's time to land.
    Specification:
    Tarot FY680 carbon fiber frame
    Naza + GPS
    HobbyKing F-30A ESCs with SimonK FW
    www.hobbyking.c...
    Turnigy 4822-690 kV motors
    12x3,8 carbon fiber propellers
    Battery 4S 7750 mAh (4500 + 3250 in parallel)
    AUW without load: 2.6 kg (hexa with batteries)
    Load: 1.5 kg (1.5 l of water in bottle)
    ----------------------------
    Total weight 4.1 kg
    Flight time: approx. 9:30

    Your 4.1kg AUW is somewhat inspiring for me!. My FY680 Pro is almost ready for her maiden flight with around 4.8 kg AUW!!... I doubt very much whether she will be able to take off at all with that much weight! My complete setup is :
    FY690 Pro CF frame with Retractable Landing Gear, Naza-M V2 Controller, Lawmate 1.2 GHz 1000mW FPV, Eagle Tree OSD Pro, FUTABA R6208SB Rx, DYS 3-Axis Gimbal and Canon EOS M with 22mm f/1.2 Lens, Tarot 4006 620kv Motors, Hobbywing 40A ESC, 1355 CF Props,10,000 mAh 4S Battery.

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  10 лет назад

      4.8 kg sounds like a bit too much for this frame. I never exceeded 4.1 kg, in fact the full setup with Sony Nex 5N, BL gimbal, video link and 2x5000 mAh 4S lipos the AUW is 3.8 kg and it flies great.

    • @tom-ni7li
      @tom-ni7li 10 лет назад

      Tks Alek. I don't worry much about the 4.8kg AUW for now. There's extra weight that I can shred out. This includes 1011gm of the 10,000mAh Lipo , 780gm of DYS 3-axis gimbal, 367gm of EOS M + 22mm lens. I may end up with a full CF 3-axis gimbal + GH3+ BE, 1 x 5000 mAh Lipo. :)

    Sujil, that sounds great! My hexa can fly over 17 minutes, but without heavy load. I already tested with Nex 5N and gimbal and I can get 10 safe minutes with 2x4500 mAh 4S batteries.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    FY 680 is best for middle sized cameras maximum. It can carry up to "Nex-sized" cameras or small handy cams. If you need to carry something bigger like DLSR definitely go for some bigger rig. I am happy with FY 680 for its price.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  10 лет назад

    Jorge, that really sucks! I think I am going to use zip-ties before the flight to avoid folding arms in mid-flight. There are plastic clamps by ATG that allow the arms to be secured and prevent from folding. I recommend to upgrade.

    • @MatthewWilliamsFly
      @MatthewWilliamsFly 10 лет назад

      I use removable zi ties also known as Cable Ties... and it stop those arms from folding up. Also found screws for arms must be stuck properly with thread lock as they will come out by themselves with the vibration otherwise.

    Basic Pitch/Roll: 170, Yaw 120, Vertical 170
    Attitude Gain: 150
    It can wobble when it's not loaded. If you add weight, like camera, gimbal etc then it won't wobble anymore.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    1. I agree on battery capacity issue. But the main problem was I did not hear the voltage alarm. If I heard it I would land earlier. I actually knew the battery was nearly empty that is why I hovered near to me to hear the alarm but it was too late...
    2. I disagree on partially full bottle. The bottle was totally full. No problem there.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    Those were my findings based on my own experiences. Also, if possible, avoid plastic props because they add to wobbling problem since they are also flexible. The best is to use carbon fiber or wooden props (as stiff as possible).

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    I now have carbon brushless gimbal and Nex 5N with 16 mm pancake lens. The whole weight is 2600 g (hexa+lipos) + 700 g (gimbal + Nex) = 3300 g. There will be some small additions yet: HDMI to AV converter and video transmitter, not more than 50 grams extra.

    I think yes, but that's about its limit. There are bigger Tarot frames but I think those are for heavier DSLR cameras. I fly it with 2x4500 4S, I have lighter gimbal and no retracts.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    FY 690 is the same except it has differen motor mounts that make the arms a little longer. That enables you to use bigger props, on FY680 you can fit only 13 inch props max. Sony Nex5N+16mm pancake lens weighs 326 g. For your setup (quite heavier than mine) you need powerful motors, if you go with FY690 you have more chioce on motors and you can go for 5S or 6S setup with 15 - 16 inch props to make it very efficient.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    Sure you can, but the total lifting power will be less. With 12x3.8 prop I believe the max thrust is around 1.1 kg on 3S and 1.8 kg on 4S. But these motors can spin 13x4 prop so you could try to use those on 3S and still get a lot of lift. I did not use 13" props, so I can't really tell but I believe it will be good enough even for Nex sized cameras to carry.

  • @AlekB
    @AlekB  11 лет назад

    No, it does not. Naza "likes" bigger load, so when I fly bare frame, than it's a bit wobbly, but when I add more batteries or AV equipment then it flies great, it decents straight, no big wobbles. And that is what this hexa is intended for AV/AP.

  • @leesalespowerbank5009

    What does the frame weigh? I never found that anywhere.
    Do you have any experience with the 690s? I would like to know the difference between that and the 680.
    Rough calculations put me at around 1.6kg-1.7kg
    3 Axis Gimbal 700g
    Nex5n 300g-350g inc battery
    16mm Nex5 100g
    Landing gear 150-200g

    awesome video! have you had any issues with your ESC and sync skipping? Im planning on getting the same motors and pretty much the same setup but all the reviews iv been reading about simonk ESC and low kV high pole pancake motors have really gotten me flustered on whether or not im making the right decision! thanks for the reply in adv.

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  10 лет назад +1

      No, I have not had any issues with simonK. But I've had issues with Multistars motors. I would recommend better use equivalent SunnySky motors 700 kV pancake motors. Multistars are ok, but after some time the windings started to crack from microvibrations and that made the motor to have some hickups. Also, Multistars have some whinning sound at some RPMs, which I disliked quote a lot.

    Hello
    Sorry if I ask questions but since you've already done and tried the tarot fy 680, let me ask you the information you think engines with HP2814 - 810Kv, measuring propeller could go well and you can tell me some website where you can find the propellers carbon fiber at good price?

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  10 лет назад

      HP2814 - 810Kv could work ok on 4S and 10x4,7 props, as per specs. 1500 g lift is quote ok for FY680. As far as I know the cheapest carbon props are offered by rctimer.

    What is difference between this and Tarot 690s?

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  4 года назад

      I believe the size mainly. 680 stands for diameter of 680 mm, or the span, if you like. So 690 is a little bigger so you could use bigger props. 12" are biggest on 680, you could go for 13" on 690, I believe.

    • @AlekB

      Clyde Gonzales I believe for 1.3 - 1.5 kg load you'd better go for bigger hexa, like Tarot T810, here is some build log diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/tarot-t810-build-log
      FY 680 I believe is better used under 1 kg payload. I tested it with 1.5 kg but that was just a test if there is enough reserve of power and strength.

      Do regulatora musis dat taku verziu, ktora je skompilovana pre dany regulator. To si najdes v tabulke simonK. Hladaj na googli. Ak chces editovat casovanie, musel by si zobrat zdrojak a potom sam skompilovat HEX subor, ktory sa flashuje to Atmegy. Na rcgroups je vlakno o simonK FW, skus skor tam napisat, ja som taketo edity nerobil, davam tam standarne verzie dostupne v KK Flash tool, pre F30A napr. treba pouzit subor BS_NFET.HEX, pre blueseries 40 je to BS40A.hex

      Podla tabulky v simonK reglov su skoro rovnake. F30A maju N-FET tranzistory, co sa povazuje lepsie ako PN-FET, lebo sa menej hreju a maju mensi tepelny drift. Takisto maju externy oscilator, co je tiez lepsie. Flashovacie kontakty maju v rade. blueseries su v tomto rovnake, okrem 12 a 30A verzie a flashovacie kontakty nemaju v rade, ale rozhazdanze po doske.

      What is your frame? Tarot FY-680? If so, I think 10-11" is small for it. The most effective is use of pancake motors with 12 -13" props for this frame. If you want to use 11" try some SunnySky pancake motors at around 800 kV and 4S.

      Alek B thank you very much. I will test putting on a small 25cc gas motor with like 0.5 liters of gasoline, just wanted to know if it could handle the weight. Next step is vibrations...

    I dont suggest that you using that 12 inch props
    Use 13 inch one
    It will fit
    Bigger props means more efficient = more flightime
    And also use 530kv or 580kv one
    And also dont use retracts because its heavy
    Lol

    hello , i have a question , if i have motor sunnysky v3508 580kv , props 1355 and 4s battery , can it for auw=4 kg ?

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  8 лет назад

      +Tarek Nitro Accoprding to data sheet of this motor it would be able to fly 4 kg, but not at 50% thorttle, but at around 65 - 70% throttle, which is not ideal. The same motor at 700 kv would be more suitable. Or using 15" props on 580 kv, but that is not possible on FY680 hexa, it is too small.

    • @tarekh1377
      @tarekh1377 8 лет назад

      Alek B think you ,so the same motor with 700kv is better , can you give me please other motor better and can support this load for 4s baterie

    • @tarekh1377
      @tarekh1377 8 лет назад

      +Alek B is it turnigy 4822 690 kV better for heavy config ? this motors can be fix on tarot 690 ?

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  8 лет назад

      +Tarek Nitro Turnigy Mutistar 4822 690 kV has similar performance as Sunnysky v3508 700 kV. I would rather recommend Sunnysky as my Turnigy are not as good. I had some issues with them.

    Can tarot 650 lift 10kgs

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  7 лет назад

      No, max. total weight including payload is around 4 kg, which represents around 1.5 kg payload. It could carry more payload but then the frame can be overloaded and get broken mid air. I do not recommend overloading it.

    HEAVE LIFT......lol 1.5kg payload!!!!! Hell my gimbal alone is 3.7 pounds on mine lol 6.2 pounds with camera almost 3kg total lol and does not even feel it there you must be using really high kv motors or something. I run 400kv ones on mine 0 issue lifting off. 15 minutes flight time fully packed with gear. almost 35 minutes without gimbal/camera onboard. Make sure you zip tie your arms in locked position. around the 2kg/4pounds payload range they tend to unlock mid flight! past lesson learned :-)

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  9 лет назад

      I wrote the specs in the description below the video. kV is 690. I do not think this frame is designed to carry 3 kg of payload. I am not saying it is not possible but not safe. For such a high payload I would choose e.g. S900 or similar frame.
      Currently this copter AUW 3.8 kg fully loaded with gimbal, camera etc flies 15 minutes with 2 x 4500 mAh 4S lipos.

    So stupid to have no landing gear and no LVC set up before you fly. Stupid crashes like this is what makes people want to ban drones. Kind of a wreckless test setup.

    • @AlekB
      @AlekB  9 лет назад +6

      It was a test in the field far away from buildings and people, no landing gear was to prevent from possible accident and breaking it. I think the most stupid is just your comment. Drone banning is caused by stupid flying nearby people, buildings, airports etc.

      Lol lvc with a naza? And that was a very basic crash... Crashes are part of the hobby something that does happen to all pilots the rule are here so that idiot that don't under stand that it does happen don't hurt people this guy did absolutely everything he had to do he only risk damaging his own property... There is nothing wrong with that at all.
