One tip if I may, do not put too much emphasis on moving grinder settings several times a day, when its set it should be ok till the burrs wear and require adjusting. Its always best if you are going to be a barista to learn grinder adjustment, how to set the amount the grinder dispenses and how to volume set your machine. Thanks for an excellent no-frills video about the important aspects of being a barista. Interesting that your grinder seems to be set up to run for a specific period of time. Surely, the weight of the grind is more important than the time it has taken to be ground? Isn't it better to weigh the grind rather than just set the grinder up to run for a particular period of time? Certainly, as a home barista, I find I get much more consistency by weighing than by adjusting my Sette 270 grind times.
Thank you very much. I am glad you thought it is an excellent no frills video, just what I was aiming for. Truly. The grinder is set up so that it grinds exactly a certain amount in a certain time, I can weigh the ground coffee each time and it's not even 0.1 of a gram different. Depending on other different factors, humidity, temperature etc, I slightly adjust the coarseness or fineness of grind several times a day.
@@AggroFish Thanks for the reply, Stefan! Yes, I do the same thing. I weigh around 15g of beans for my double shot, depending on which beans I'm using, then grind them in the Sette until they're all done. Thank you for watching and commenting Aaron. Yes there is an art to making coffee, but consistency is key, bitter or burnt is not the flavour you want. You'll never get that at my café
Just got a new job at a bakery and also have to learn how to make coffees. I’m a bit anxious because I feel like there’s so many different types of coffees and they all require differently frothing milk consistencies!! I’m so nervous of people not like their drink I’ve made them😅
Do you have any tips on rember ing how to make each specific drink? Also with cleaning the machine? I work at a cafe as my first job and they require me to clean the machine at the end of the shift. I have to back wash it, but they have shown me a few times and i’m still confused. I hate to have to ask the question over and over again at the shop
Thank you for watching and commenting. My advice is to have a little cheat sheet where you have notes on each drink. In regards to cleaning the machine, maybe ask to be shown one more time by the your kindest work colleague and then film it on your mobile, or search on RUclips "how to back wash (your coffee machine)"
If its a machine that is back washed manually load a teaspoon of the powder into the blind pot, lock it into the head and press the single shot button, in about 10 seconds the light will flash then press the same button again to stop it, if it does not flash do a 10 second count. ( never leave for too long or you will blow the internal lines off) Remove from the head and using the same powder that's in the filter lock it into the second head and repeat as the first. Do this 3 times to each head without changing the powder. When complete, flush the filter and lock it back into the head and repeat the process again 3 times to each head, this is with just water. When this is done make a single shot from each head and let it run down the drain. You may have been told to use powder every day but that is not correct, too much will contaminate the lines. If a cafe is doing say 20kg per week 3 times a week is enough but you can do it as many times as you like with just water. PS, never jiggle the handle when back washing!!!
It is an amazing machine, great to work with and beautiful to look at. But very expensive. In Australia it costs A$ 28,500+tax new at a discount. It's a Kees van der Westen Spirit two group if you want to Google it to check the price where you are
I know the Basics but some Coffee shop requires a latte art skill and it saddened me cause my hands are shaky and I'm having hard time in making latte art.
To be honest, I struggle with latte art too. But a heart should be possible even with a shaky hand if you use a small jug, as long as you get the consistency of the milk and the angle of the cup right. Good luck, hope you can make it
Thanks for commenting Brooklyn. It's ok to be scared when you are starting something you haven't done before. But don't worry, it's not that hard being a barista, you'll get the hang of it quickly enough. Nobody starts out an expert and it's ok to make some mistakes. Good luck!
If you are busy, you won't have time to weigh every shot anyway. But when I calibrate the grinder every morning, of course I use my digital scales. Tamping wasn't flat? Well spotted, too busy looking where the camera was I guess, my bad. Thanks for watching and your critique, I'll do better next time.
Yes, but do your due diligence like, location, passing trade, parking availability and remember the busiest time for coffee sales is 5am - 8am Mon to Fri!

How much is this machine? I need to buy it
It is an amazing machine, great to work with and beautiful to look at. But very expensive. In Australia it costs A$ 28,500+tax new at a discount. It's a Kees van der Westen Spirit two group if you want to Google it to check the price where you are
Thanks Stefan!
Thank you Adrian. Much appreciated
My dream job
Good luck Nyamwiza. I mostly enjoy the chatting part of the job. Thank you for watching and commenting.
What does "a third in on the side" mean? Sorry I'm not a native English speaker.
Thank you for the question. It means don't keep the spout in the middle of the jug, move it a little bit to one side of the jug (1/3 in)
@@AggroFish thank you for elaborating
I know the Basics but some Coffee shop requires a latte art skill and it saddened me cause my hands are shaky and I'm having hard time in making latte art.
To be honest, I struggle with latte art too. But a heart should be possible even with a shaky hand if you use a small jug, as long as you get the consistency of the milk and the angle of the cup right. Good luck, hope you can make it
@@AggroFishThanks Mate.
Can you arrange a training session for me to go hands on the experience. Kindly share your location if you like.
@@gvaranam I'm afraid I am unable to do that, as I no longer own the café. Good luck getting some hands on experience though
@@AggroFish Thank you so much for your kind message.
I am looking for a job a can make barista.
I just applied for a barista job (very likely to get) and im terrified
Thanks for commenting Brooklyn. It's ok to be scared when you are starting something you haven't done before. But don't worry, it's not that hard being a barista, you'll get the hang of it quickly enough. Nobody starts out an expert and it's ok to make some mistakes. Good luck!
How can I join one as a student
Hii, the video is very helpful. Can I use it for my school project?

The best way too learn is through your coffee suppliers agent, they can show you the best way to prep there products.
Please do you need to get a barista certificate before you can work in a coffee shop
@@SarahBonfaa No you don't need it. Some employers might want to see one though, if you don't have any experience

No scale? Your tamping is not even flat?
If you are busy, you won't have time to weigh every shot anyway. But when I calibrate the grinder every morning, of course I use my digital scales. Tamping wasn't flat? Well spotted, too busy looking where the camera was I guess, my bad. Thanks for watching and your critique, I'll do better next time.
@@AggroFish nice man. Really enjoy your videos tho

how much is it the barista machine in ur country, i'm from Ethiopia but it's difficult to get the machine. and can i get ur email address
I’ve always dreamed of owning a small coffee shop is a small suburban town, and I still want to do it too
I hope your dream will come true one day and it will be very successful too
Yes, but do your due diligence like, location, passing trade, parking availability and remember the busiest time for coffee sales is 5am - 8am Mon to Fri!
@@PamelaGregFawcett Definitely, I think nowadays one of the most important parts of going out to eat/drink is the experience. When it’s so easy to go to the store for coffee or buy some online for delivery, I want people to want to come to my place for the flavor and the experience. I like the idea of a coffee shop mixed with a video game shop/modern arcade.
wonderful tutorial. Thank you
