The engineer was waving. Conductors do not operate trains. The original operator of what is now GP&S, was Swope Railways, who purchased the first Miniature Train Company G16 streamliner. They improved the railroad, even installing working block signals. Then the LA City counsel decided to throw Swope out, because it was based in Kansas. It has never been as good as it was since. I rode it numerous times in the 1950's. That G16 streamliner is now at a private estate in Lodi, California.
