    Is this that train place by Griffith Park and the LA Zoo? Always wanted to stop by there.

      Yes, this is it. So worth a visit. They have public train rides every Sunday.

      Yes actual coal is used the other type used in steam is propane

      Steam locomotive at this scale burn propane, coal, and diesel. Some even are wood fired. Propane is the easiest and very common.

      Thanks for the replies. Episode idea : look at the different energy sources of these trains. I imagine electric is gaining ground with better battery tech.
