Yup, people will always stare at people who look different than them, especially if they've never seen their kind before. The same thing happens in Nigeria, a lot of people will stare at an oyinbo (white person) or Asian person.
Indeed. If you can speak their language and go talk to them, you immediately see that they mean zero harm and would gladly engage you. Of course there are bad apples in any situation but by and large
I think people from America (particularly black people) are uncomfortable with people staring is because you see many people of different race everyday in America while other countries as diverse as us. So when we go to a predominantly place with Asian we'll get more stares than any average person there.

I don't know if it's a thing in China but you are allowed to approach us if you are curious and try to have a conversation. Honestly I don't know why there is a lot of hate in these comments. Just looking at the videos and the fact that you rarely see another black person shows that it's not common. The stares may be overwhelming but people are just surprised. I live in Nigeria(Africa) 😂 people still stare when they see someone white or Asian. You may argue that don't they see them on TV. Trust me it's not the same thing as actually see the person. I still stare whenever I see someone white or Asian because I'm amazed by their hair. Like how is it so long and shiny 😂😂😂. About the hair touching thing I just see them as people who are not shy, trust me if I had a foreign friend I'm definitely asking for permission to touch their hair because I'm curious about the difference. 😂😂😂 I definitely don't have the courage to walk up to a random stranger and ask for that. And honestly it's mostly the older generation you see do these things they are not as familiar with current trends like the younger generation.
Exactly, I'm Asian American and have travelled all over Africa in rural areas and people all stared at me and laughed or smiled. African Americans think Black people are exempt from being shocked by seeing another race but that's just because America is a diverse country and to them it's no big deal to see an Asian person but in Africa, where it is homogenous just like in China, of course they are going to be shocked to see other races. Glad you pointed this out as a Nigerian because African Americans can't understand this concept at all.
@@HeatherLewis213 you know that African Americans were taken from their home write and we are all separated from our people. So don't say stuff like African American don't understand because you seem to not understand
It's because you're different. My wife and I are UK pensioners and, prior to covid, toured China several times independently. We were constantly stared at, had sneaky photographs taken, had countless people ask to have their photographs taken with us, people try and practice their English with us or simply say 'hi' in passing. Walking along the path in Orange Island, Changsha (where the statue of a Young Chairman Mao is) we had hundreds of visiting schoolchildren shouting 'Hi' and giggling as they walked past. And guess what? - it didn't bother us in the slightest. We made time to talk when when people tried talking to us. 3 sweet little schoolgirls in Guilin politely asked if they could practice their English talking to us - we obviously obliged. This happened outside of China as well, especially in Hanoi. Sometimes, a group, often extended family, would want to have a picture with us - not just one pic but individually, pairs, groups etc. People watching would often ask if they could have theirs taken with us as well. We've been as long as 20 mins before we could get away. We used to laugh to ourselves that in the UK, people just stare through us but in China, we were like the Beckhams. I'm not a vlogger as such, but have put several short clips of some of the places we have visited on my channel, in case anyone thinks we are making it up. One video is titled ' Ann and Echo on the beach' We met Echo three years ago, when she was working as a waitress in Guangzhou during her Spring break from college. She tried practicing her English on us. It was terrible lol. She did explain that she was desperate to learn English but didn't know any 'foreigners' she could practice with. I offered to help her via WeChat and she jumped at the chance. I didn't really expect to be teaching her for long but three years later, we are still talking. We did meet up in Nanning just before Covid - where she lived - and went down to Beihai for a few days. Hence the video of her and my wife on the beach. I just wish we could go back to China but failing health has put a stop to that. Fantastic country.
Same thing happens to Chinese people when they visit Africa. It's nothing unique to Chinese people. It's human nature. You think villagers in rural Africa wont' be surprised to see short Chinese people walking around out of nowhere when they haven't seen them before in their lives? They're not just gonna act like it's no big deal.
@@HeatherLewis213 Exactly. Our son had very blonde hair when he was young and often had people touching it when we were travelling in some countries as it was unusual to them. I've got no objection to curiosity - animosity is the problem but fortunately we have encountered very little of that on our travels.

You have to realize that you are walking around obviously filming on a busy Holiday (National Day of the PRC) that's basically like the USAs 4th of July. Since it's such a big holiday many people with familys and friends will be out. You also are filming everyone who passes around you, and you are speaking loud enough to be heard by some. That alone would attract the attention of many people anywhere. But to add on you are speaking in English (with an accent) so most in China (if heard) would turn to. And yes, you are a foreigner, so unlike the USA, UK or some other parts of Europe, many parts of East Asia (or all of Asia itself) don't have large Black or White populations. The Chinese were first introduced to Western Asians from the Middle East (West Asia) then later Europeans. It wasn't until much later on they were introduced to the true Africans. Even Egyptians (mostly in Africa but partly in Central Asia) are lighter skinned than many Africans. In general, most countries in East Asia consist of primarily their own race. So foreigners are different than if you are a foreiner of European countries or Canada, USA, Belize or other western countries that were once colonized by the west or have more mixed people. If a Chinese person goes to some places in Africa, and walks around with a camera talking in Mandarin (or a different dialect) loudly in one of their cities during a big festival, I'm fairly sure that Chinese person would get quite a few looks at, just like you. And as I said since China was introduced to the Europeans (or Whites) before Africans, they do probably seem more "curious" about Black foreigners. But I honestly doubt you would be getting so many glances or stares if you weren't holding a camera filming other people as well, talking in a different language out loud, beeing in a large crowd and on one of the most important holidays in the country. Doing that would be almost impossible to not have people not look at you, even if you were Chinese yourself and even if you were speaking Mandarin loudly.

If you saw a person who is like nothing you've ever seen before, you might stare for a bit, too. It's not necessarily malicious, it's just that foreigners tend to be interesting in every country!

At least China didn't come in and enslave them, steal their land, force them to speak French, commit genocide, rape their women etc. You must think that's ok compared to what China is doing?

@@anniebanda1810 Pretty much yeah. Especially for small cities and villages. I went to Chengdu, being a Chinese and still get stared at, a lot, because I'm obviously from other cities (actually big cities) because of how I dress and my haircut.
the snack is called 冰糖葫芦 bing tang hu lu, cause it seems like a gourd. It’s fresh fruits covered by a thin sugar layer
you are sooo beautiful in many ways!
You can't really blame them!!!! Its their country full of Chinese people and a beautiful black woman must look like a real life sculpture.......
I love China and Chinese people in general, they respect the intellectual people independent of their color skin.
+50 social credits points
China respects all those who work hard, live and enjoy life. Regardless of education, country, color, culture, religion. Hate people who get something for nothing in China
Black Queen❤
I went to an all black neighborhood in the USA and everyone was looking at me
THEY KNOW THEY ARE LOOKING AT A BLACK GODDESS......OUR MELANIN AND NATURAL HAIR IS MESMERIZING TO THEM......WE ARE JUST SO DAM BEAUTIFUL !!!
They keep watching you, because you looks different. There doesn't have much foreigners besides those major cities in China, so people barely have change to meet people who are not chinese.
I think she knows that lol
Obviously
Yup I am Asian in Black neighborhood. Yes get stared at all the time. You are not alone, people will naturally do this. People take picture of me all the time. People are curious, it's a part of life. Just live your best life.
Black Americans do not take pictures of you. Your capping if you tell that lie again
Im chinese but don't live in China so I can't see much Asian people in the USA I wish I could see more of my own kinds of people. And thx for sharing this video I never really know what china looks like
Ishhh you are doing so well sister, i could not take being starred at and having taken photos of me without asking, my anxiety would go crazy!
Same thing happens in Africa. You're just not used to traveling and you grew up in Europe where there is a lot of diversity. People in Africa aren't used to seeing other races so they do the exact same thing. It's no big deal really, they're just curious. But you're acting like they shouldn't be surprised because your speaking from a European perspective, not an African one.
@@HeatherLewis213 What about-ism is such a joke 🤣😂 why are you so defensive and sensitive?
You are so pretty!
the candied fruit thing he said it is "bing tang hu lu" 冰糖葫芦, but it is commonly known as "tang hu lu" 糖葫芦
Hope you continue to enjoy your time in China, you seem to have a positive mindset, so I'm sure you'll do just that. People are just curious and mean no harm really :)
What a terrible excuse
@@MonsterZeroLITE bro how is that an excuse?
@@MonsterZeroLITE not an excuse.
@@MonsterZeroLITE japan is worse for foreigners
I love how curious people are when you go to a foreign country and usually they dont see people like you often
So in all this you saying that they never travel to America?
Love your hair
That is because they have never seen a black person in real life, and they are curious, in the Balkans is the same, but they do not have a bad intentions,
Yeah I’ve come to the conclusion that I would not survive in China😭 everytime someone was staring at you I was just screaming “BOO” at the phone
they never seen dark skin before 1 time i see black man i ask to touch his hair i say wow. wow i not believe it real like a magic hair water falls off..
Human beings are always curious about the unknown
17:02 Busola are you alright?😂 You sure your not drunk with the way your acting 😂😂.
Lol yeah the excitement.. I think it's like sugar rush from all the coasters they rode at the park.
I don't drink but I also do that when I'm very happy
@@nnaemekadaniel9578 yeah me and my cousins do that to lol
Too*
You all look like you had so much fun! Your smile is contagious.
For anyone who has been to bad places of America and has been fortunate enough to travel the world, you very well know the difference b/t staring and "the stare". One is because you're a novelty; the other is about to turn into an episode of Roots.
You're so bubbly! Looking at your smile that almost never leaves your face makes me so happy! I wish I could be as bubbly as you
O’ my it looked so much fun 🤩
Asians are really sweet especially when it comes to seeing different cultures😄they get so fascinated by us because they’ve only seen us in the screens never up-close, they’re just curious😭
This is true ..
Some ppl think its, Ppl trying to be racist but majority of the time, its just curiosity.
If a random foreigner asks for ur picture = it usually means your very pretty, and if your taking photos, ur giving social media celebrity vibes lol.
No they’re not, they’re sour
Videos i have seen of Black people in Korea and Japan on the train and bus. People stay away from them 😭😭
But Chinese people will be following them to take pics🤣❤️
@@King-is3td i think thats more of a cultural aspect.
Japanese people and korean people will not openly engage.. similar to NYC and any other bigger cities.
They'll look, and thats about it.
For all the traveling lovers around the world.
Welcome you all and thank you for your support. 🇦🇿 🇹🇷
I live in America, about years ago I took my son that was maybe 2 going on 3 to a dealership, this young chinese lady approached us and she was in awe of my son, wanted to hold him and took a picture with him, that happened in America 😁
We Chinese think you foreign kids look like dolls. So cute...
Dea Busola: My name is Darío Mendoza (USA): I am a Language Arts Teacher. A long time ago, I study
during two semesters in China and it was a very fulfilling cultural experience. However, sometimes, I
felt uneasy by walking in the streets as well as in the University campus because whenever I went, the
Chinese eyes were looking at me. I made a smiling face and continued with my activities. I wish you the best,
I’m half Chinese and half American but I look American, people always rare at me- it does feel weird but I sometimes stare at foreigner too, people mostly do it for curiosity or think you are beautiful, so I understand why they stare and I’m fine with it- Chinese people sometimes stare at people who are beautiful or stand out, there’s no need to feel scared, they won’t do anything to you :D
