I work in an area where J1s (foreign university students) come to work every summer. One summer, a bunch of Chinese kids invited me to their dinner in their dorm. The excitement they had for me showing up was awesome. They taught me about their traditions, hobbies, what girls like and don't like, how to use a chop stick, and much more. They were probably my favorite J1s. It's been years and we don't keep in touch anymore but being around them and other people around the world like Turkey and even Romania made me realize how beautiful people are outside of this modern, western world.

When I was in China, I often had Chinese people come up to me just to be able to speak English with me. Never had any problems with the people of China. The government, however, is another story. I was there for a month. After 5 days there, I would have police officers come check up on me day and night, sometimes 4 or 5 times a day. When I went out, someone was always following me.
They are sweet... But like others have said, many like to take pics and joke with friends later; however, some are genuinely decent ... But be careful... And he knows this .. he's immersed in the culture with the people. Vacationing beautiful Chinese women and college students are easier to pick up than local girls... no family, neighbors or peers to stop them from being free to do as they wish. There are plenty of good looking women in Taiwan and mainland China dancing and out but only party girls and those that chase foreigners are going to be an option. If that's your thing, go for it. But don't get discouraged, if you speak the language and put in the work you can make great friends and find beautiful women that will date you with a goal for more. But these girls aren't playing.
